We propose a real-time image matching framework, which is hybrid in the sense that it uses both hand-crafted features and deep features obtained from a well-tuned deep convolutional network. The matching problem, which we concentrate on, is specific to a certain application, that is, printing design to product photo matching. Printing designs are any kind of template image files, created using a design tool, thus are perfect image signals. However, photographs of a printed product suffer many unwanted effects, such as uncontrolled shooting angle, uncontrolled illumination, occlusions, printing deficiencies in color, camera noise, optic blur, et cetera. For this purpose, we create an image set that includes printing design and corresponding product photo pairs with collaboration of an actual printing facility. Using this image set, we benchmark various hand-crafted and deep features for matching performance and propose a framework in which deep learning is utilized with highest contribution, but without disabling real-time operation using an ordinary desktop computer. Polypropylene (PP) is an electrical insulation material, and it can store electrostatic charge easily once they have friction with the metal or rubber rollers. Herein we present electrostatic issues in non-woven fabric manufacturing based on the roll to roll production processes. By using portable electrostatic-field meter measurements, we provide a low-cost and highly effective solution for discharging electrostatic charge before exposed or in contact with the operators, and we also identify where to install charge-dissipation technology to make it most useful. We employed the benefit of a highly and localized fringe field to discharge the electrostatic charge along the edge of the grounded metal rod placed at ~30 cm away. After placing the metal rod, the average of electrostatic potential of winding stock roll during spinning is decreased ~10 times, corresponding to ~0.2 μc/m 3 accumulated electrostatic charge on synthetic fabrics. The electric field distribution via the finite element method was illustrated corresponding to the reduction of electrostatic charge distribution in PP winding stock roll before and after inserting the grounded metal rod.

This paper presents new methods for set-valued state estimation and active fault diagnosis of linear descriptor systems. The algorithms are based on constrained zonotopes, a generalization of zonotopes capable of describing strongly asymmetric convex sets, while retaining the computational advantages of zonotopes. Additionally, unlike other set representations like intervals, zonotopes, ellipsoids, paralletopes, among others, linear static constraints on the state variables, typical of descriptor systems, can be directly incorporated in the mathematical description of constrained zonotopes. Therefore, the proposed methods lead to more accurate results in state estimation in comparison to existing methods based on the previous sets without requiring rank assumptions on the structure of the descriptor system and with a fair trade-off between accuracy and efficiency. In this article, a comprehensive analysis of the approach known as Split-Step Wavelet Parabolic Equation (SSW-PE) in modeling radio wave propagation is presented. The SSW-PE introduces innovations, such as the application of narrow-angle and wide-angle approaches, referred to as NAPE and WAPE, respectively. Furthermore, the SSW-PE demonstrates the incorporation of refractivity variations, modifications in terrain modeling for better representation, and considerations of surface boundary conditions. In addition to its innovative aspects, this study aims to provide a complete guide for effectively replicating the algorithm, thereby promoting the advancement of propagation studies using wavelets. The effectiveness and applicability of this approach are validated through comparative studies with well-established solutions, including the Discrete Mixed Fourier Transform (DMFT) version of the Split-Step Parabolic Equation (SSPE) method. Comparisons with measurements from real propagation cases are also conducted. Statistical analysis confirms the innovative potential of the SSW-PE algorithm, which also offers computational efficiency for rapid and consistent simulations. Thus, this article contributes to a comprehensive and innovative analysis, providing tangible resources for the research community interested in expanding this methodology. © 2024 SBMO/SBMag.

This paper addresses the use of data-driven evolving techniques applied to fault prognostics. In such problems, accurate predictions of multiple steps ahead are essential for the Remaining Useful Life (RUL) estimation of a given asset. The fault prognostics’ solutions must be able to model the typical nonlinear behavior of the degradation processes of these assets, and be adaptable to each unit’s particularities. In this context, the Evolving Fuzzy Systems (EFSs) are models capable of representing such behaviors, in addition of being able to deal with non-stationary behavior, also present in these problems. Moreover, a methodology to recursively track the model’s estimation error is presented as a way to quantify uncertainties that are propagated in the long-term predictions. The well-established NASA’s Li-ion batteries data set is used to evaluate the models. The experiments indicate that generic EFSs can take advantage of both historical and stream data to estimate the RUL and its uncertainty. © 2021, CC BY-NC-SA.

This work presents an algorithm to automatically translate a Blocking Flexible Job Shop Scheduling Problem modeling into automata using the Supervisory Control Theory. Different problems of the literature are analyzed in their textual form and the algorithm returns an automaton that implements the closed-loop behavior under the Supervisory Control Theory. A heuristic is applied to find, among all sequences, the sequence that minimizes the makespan. With our approach, we find makespan values near to those in the literature. This methodology faces memory usage boundaries, but it was able to find solutions for instances of some well-known problems.

Distal appendages (DAPs) are vital in cilia formation, mediating vesicular and ciliary docking to the plasma membrane during early ciliogenesis. Although numerous DAP proteins arranging a nine-fold symmetry have been studied using superresolution microscopy analyses, the extensive ultrastructural understanding of the DAP structure developing from the centriole wall remains elusive owing to insufficient resolution. Here, we proposed a pragmatic imaging strategy for two-color single-molecule localization microscopy of expanded mammalian DAP. Importantly, our imaging workflow enables us to push the resolution limit of a light microscope well close to a molecular level, thus achieving an unprecedented mapping resolution inside intact cells. Upon this workflow, we unravel the ultra-resolved higher-order protein complexes of the DAP and its associated proteins. Intriguingly, our images show that C2CD3, microtubule triplet, MNR, CEP90, OFD1, and ODF2 jointly constitute a unique molecular configuration at the DAP base. Moreover, our finding suggests that ODF2 plays an auxiliary role in coordinating and maintaining DAP nine-fold symmetry. Together, we develop an organelle-based drift correction protocol and a two-color solution with minimum crosstalk, allowing a robust localization microscopy imaging of expanded DAP structures deep into the gel-specimen composites.

The field of computational pathology has been transformed with recent advances in foundation models that encode histopathology region-of-interests (ROIs) into versatile and transferable feature representations via self-supervised learning (SSL). However, translating these advancements to address complex clinical challenges at the patient and slide level remains constrained by limited clinical data in disease-specific cohorts, especially for rare clinical conditions. We propose TITAN, a multimodal whole slide foundation model pretrained using 335,645 WSIs via visual self-supervised learning and vision-language alignment with corresponding pathology reports and 423,122 synthetic captions generated from a multimodal generative AI copilot for pathology. Without any finetuning or requiring clinical labels, TITAN can extract general-purpose slide representations and generate pathology reports that generalize to resource-limited clinical scenarios such as rare disease retrieval and cancer prognosis. We evaluate TITAN on diverse clinical tasks and find that TITAN outperforms both ROI and slide foundation models across machine learning settings such as linear probing, few-shot and zero-shot classification, rare cancer retrieval and cross-modal retrieval, and pathology report generation. CSMA/CA has been widely accepted as a Media Access Control scheme for Inter-Vehicle Communication systems. In CSMA/CA, a mobile station waits a frame transmission during a backoff interval based on random value. Then, the mobile station transmits the frame if the others do not transmit any frames. In this paper, we evaluate system performances of CSMA/CA from the viewpoint of a time efficiency and average frame delay time varying the range of random value by network simulations. © 2019 IEEE.
