The growing number of distributed generations (DGs) has shifted the power supply to be more flexible and reliable. Meanwhile, for the stability of the power grid, the increasing integration demands a robust fault ride-through (FRT) ability when the unbalanced sag occurs in the grid operation, namely low-voltage ride-through (LVRT). During an unbalanced sag, the oscillation in the active and reactive power, the distorted and unbalanced current are the main significant detriments. Several current reference strategies have been developed to mitigate these adverse effects. However, the standard approach prioritizes compensation for one objective entirely, typically the sag, at the expense of leaving another objective unaddressed i.e. constant powers, balanced current, or harmonic distortion. To accomplish the characteristics of different current reference strategies, this paper modifies the current reference to achieve two control variables. Besides, to accurately boost the voltage at the point of common coupling, the reactive power compensation reference is proposed according to the power transfer equation. A model predictive control (MPC) controller is designed to deliver a given power by making the current follow the reference. The simulation results show that the proposed LVRT scheme achieves at the PCC voltage a more accurate and larger boost and the modified current strategy can decouple the traditional strategies. © 2024 IEEE.

Cascaded H-bridge (CHB) static compensator (Stat-Com) enhances stability of the electricity power grid, which is becoming ever increasingly vulnerable as a consequence of replacing fossil fuel-based synchronous generators by intermitten renewable sources. A CHB StatCom needs large dc capacitors in the submodules to operate, which is a major drawback that hinders a widespread use of this technology. In order to overcome this drawback, the low-capacitance StatCom (LC-StatCom) technology was developed. Other than reducing the capacitors size, improvement in power quality and reduced losses were listed as further advantages of the LC-StatCom. On the other hand, control challenges and reduced stable operating range are the main challenges of this technology. This study aims to provide a better understanding of the prospects and challenges of the LC-StatCom technology as compared to the conventional C HB StatComs. © 2023 IEEE.

In this study, we report the process variation effect (PVE) including the work function fluctuation (WKF) on the DC/AC characteristic fluctuation of stacked gate-all-around silicon complementary field-effect transistors (CFETs). The PVE affects characteristic fluctuation significantly;in particular, for the variability of off-state current. Owing to the bottom channel of a fin-type, the P-FET suffers from the worst off-state current fluctuation (more than 200% variation) compared to the N-FET. The device variability induced by the WKF is marginal because of amorphous-type metal grains. As input features to an artificial neural network (ANN) model, low and high work function values, as well as parameters of PVE that have prevalent effects on CEFT transfer characteristics are further considered and modeled. The estimated values of R2-score prove that the ANN model properly grasps information from the dataset successfully;thus, it can be used to model emerging CFETs for circuit simulation. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

In recent years, computed tomography (CT) has been widely used during scientific drilling, providing continuous data of various rock structures such as rock layers, sedimentary layers, fractures and pores. Low-resolution CT used in drilling is insufficient to reveal the fine structures of rocks. On the other hand, X-ray CT, such as that used in the laboratory, has high resolution but is limited by the size of the sample. If the different scale-resolutions between high-resolution and low-resolution CT data can be linked, important information for multiscale analysis can be extracted. We therefore propose three-dimensional sparse super-resolution for CT data of rock samples. We show that the proposed method can reconstruct particles, veins, and texture microstructures from low-resolution three-dimensional data with super-resolution. Using multiple evaluation indices, we also demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method by comparing the proposed method with conventional interpolation methods. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). In this work, a pre-synchronization strategy for Grid-Forming inverters is proposed. This strategy is inspired by the phenomena of spontaneous synchronization of networked oscillators. Contrary to previous works, this solution does not rely upon power set-points, so that implementation for operation in non-rated grid conditions is straightforward, without a control structure to adjust these set-points. The proposed strategy is applied to Dispatchable Virtual Oscillator and Syn-chronverter Grid-forming inverters in a Controller Hardware-In-the-Loop (CHIL) testbed. The results obtained shows that pre-synchronization is achieved in both rated and non-rated grid conditions. The results also shows that the Grid-Forming inverters are able to seamlessly transition to grid-connected operation for the studied Grid-forming strategies. © 2023 IEEE.

This work aims to identify the impact of third harmonic circulating current injection (THCCI) in a Cascaded H-bridge converter in delta configuration (Delta-CHB) for Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) application. The analyses consist of evaluating the impact of THCCI on the silicon area of semiconductor devices, based on a typical IGBT/Diode model to determine the nominal current of the devices for a given maximum junction temperature. A coefficient of determination higher than 89% was obtained for all modeled variables. The results showed an increase of 42.4% in the active area of the IGBT and 42.2% in the active area of the diode when the peak cluster current increased by 62%. © 2023 IEEE.

The added value of the information transmitted in a cybernetic environment has resulted in a sophisticated malicious actions scenario aimed at data exfiltration. In situations with advanced actors, like APTs, such actions use obfuscation techniques of harmful activities as persistence assurance on strategic targets. The MADEX and NERD architectures proposed flow analysis solutions to detect rootkits that hide network traffic;however, it presents some operational cost, either in traffic volume or due to lack of aggregated information. In that regard, this work changes and improves user flow analysis techniques to eliminate impacts on network traffic, with data enrichment on local and remote bases, detection of domains consulted by rootkits and aggregation of information to generate threat intelligence, while maintaining high performance. The results show the possibility of aggregating information to data flows used by rootkits in order to have effective cyber defense actions against cybernetic threats without major impacts on the existing network infrastructure. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
