This paper proposes a technique for indoor localization based on a visible light positioning approach. The strategy relies on using lighting luminaires that modulate the luminous flux at different frequencies. A light sensor is then used to gather the illuminance signal used as input for a previously trained Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to estimate the position of the sensor. The work's main contribution is using an illuminance estimator based on the lighting distribution of the luminaires to perform the training procedure of the ANN. The lighting distribution is obtained through *** file provided by the manufacturer, i.e., the same file used for lighting designs. Therefore, by using characteristics of the environment and *** file, the proposed system can provide data to train accurately the ANN used in the positioning method. The results attested to the satisfactory performance of the proposed localization technique as it produced mean distance errors of 1.51cm and 0.79cm considering 0% and 70% walls' reflectance levels, respectively. © 2022 IEEE.

Transforming from a vertically integrated environment to a liberalized electricity market is not an easy task, and the rationale behind is the pressure to reduce electricity prices by relying on the enhanced efficiency of power plants and stiff competition in the generation sector. The New Enhanced Dispatch Arrangement (NEDA) is an initiative by EC (Energy Commission) to enhance efficiency in the short run electricity generation competition and drive down electricity prices. NEDA serves as a pre-cursor to the creation of an electricity market in Peninsular Malaysia. This paper analyses the impact of NEDA mechanism on the cost efficiency of a Malaysian Representative System. The PLEXOS simulation is done for two network constraints, which are the Southern and Northern constraint, using four types of load profiles to study the cost impact. To obtain the generation cost for each scenario, the methodology implemented will be Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED). The objective function of SCED is to minimize the total system costs within various technical constraints and limitations. For Southern constraint, the results obtained showed an average of 1.3% cost savings per day, when 1000 MW of NEDA generation is injected into the grid. The annual cost savings is RM 226 million, translating to a 471% savings in generation prices. Expensive generators in the system are now being replaced by the generation from NEDA players which are paid at the System Marginal Price (SMP). On the other hand, for Northern constraint, the annual cost savings is approximately RM 191 million, which is equivalent to 366% cost savings. This will benefit the electricity industry by reducing generation cost, and consumers will be able to enjoy lower and cheaper electricity tariff. © 2022 IEEE.

In EMI measurements, measuring antennas are needed to be changed according to the frequency bands. Antenna replacement is a factor that increases the time and effort required for measuring and leads to higher measurement costs. Therefore, aiming to perform EMI measurements over the entire frequency band with a single antenna, a folded long-hexagon antenna (FLHA) had been designed and developed in the previous study. The characteristics of the developed antenna, including absolute antenna gain, were measured in the previous study and the usable frequency of the antenna was shown to be from 400 MHz to 40 GHz. However, to determine whether this antenna can be used for EMI measurements, the radiation patterns have also to be evaluated over the entire frequency band. This paper presents a measurement result of the radiation patterns of the developed antenna and discusses its suitability for EMI measurements. © 2023 IEEE.

Epitaxial semiconductors dominate infrared sensing applications to date, albeit their intrinsic opacity and brittleness per se limit the possibilities of developing novel technologies. Here, we demonstrate a visible-blind, all-organic infrared visualization device that can differentiate the incident infrared power density down to 12 μW cm-2 from the intense ambient light illumination of 2000 lux with the help of a hybrid organic inorganic metal halide perovskites as a bandpass filter. © 2023, John Wiley and Sons Inc. Circular dichroism(CD)spectroscopy has been widely demonstrated for detecting chiral ***,the determination of chiral mixtures with various concentrations and enantiomeric ratios can be a challenging *** solve this problem,we report an enhanced vibrational circular dichroism(VCD)sensing platform based on plasmonic chiral metamaterials,which presents a 6-magnitude signal enhancement with a selectivity of chiral *** by coupled-mode theory,we leverage both in-plane and out-of-plane symmetry-breaking structures for chiral metamaterial design enabled by a two-step lithography process,which increases the near-field coupling strengths and varies the ratio between absorption and radiation loss,resulting in improved chiral light-matter interaction and enhanced molecular VCD ***,we demonstrate the thin-film sensing process of BSA andβ-lactoglobulin proteins,which contain secondary structures a-helix andβ-sheet and achieve a limit of detection down to zeptomole ***,we also,for the first time,explore the potential of enhanced VCD spectroscopy by demonstrating a selective sensing process of chiral mixtures,where the mixing ratio can be successfully differentiated with our proposed chiral *** findings improve the sensing signal of molecules and expand the extractable information,paving the way toward label-free,compact,small-volume chiral molecule detection for stereochemical and clinical diagnosisapplications.

Solar-powered dryers are still expensive and difficult to obtain for farmers with medium to low production capacity. For this reason, it is necessary to develop technology on a solar-powered dryer with a solar panel capacity of 200WP is equipped with a maximum power point tracker as an integrated solar collector with a photovoltaic system. The system in this solar-powered dryer consists of a solar panel tracker, a rotating aluminum cylinder net, a photovoltaic tracker, a battery bank, a microcontroller, and a DC/AC inverter. This system improves the performance of solar panels in the drying process of Moringa leaves. This design is expect to be the right system to ensure maximum results by providing solar radiation energy in the drying process of agricultural products. The aims goal to minimize problems in the drying of agricultural products experienced by farmers using an automatic dual-energy solar-powered dryer as a development innovation for the drying process. This study uses an experimental methodology and field data collection using a solar-powered dryer that has been analyzed and measured to obtain data comparisons. shows the maximum data of voltage and power response in positioning photovoltaic to produce the increased output power of photovoltaic array. Maximum application of powerpoint tracker on microcontroller based dual energy solar powered dryer on solar panels for drying moringa leaves produces the advantage of maximum energy absorption in solar panels and shortens the time in the drying process of moringa leaves. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper formulates a three-clamping-level discontinuous pulsewidth modulation (DPWM) for three-phase cascaded H-bridge static compensators with star configuration. Analytical expressions of capacitor voltage and zero-sequence voltage under the three-clamping-level DPWM are provided considering the inherent capacitor voltage oscillations. Based on the derived expressions, the paper analyses: (i) the inductive operation limits, and (ii) the total harmonic distortion (THD) and weighted THD of the output voltages. The results are compared with the continuous modulation and the conventional two-clamping-level DPWM, showing their different performances. © 2023 IEEE.

To provide frequency support in grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems with low inertia, flexible power point tracking (FPPT) control algorithms have been developed in the literature. To achieve this, a power reference obtained from the energy management system is used to control the PV output power. For PV systems to operate with FPPT, the frequent phenomenon of partial shading of PV arrays must be investigated. Among the multiple operating points possible for a given power reference, the one with a high voltage level should be selected in order to minimize the current stress on the semiconductor devices and to reduce the converter thermal stress. This work proposes an improved secant method to achieve this objective, which converges to a voltage reference that is higher than the global maximum power point voltage. The performance of the proposed high voltage selective global FPPT algorithm is validated through simulations in MATLAB-Simulink and experiments conducted on a scaled-down laboratory test setup. © 2023 IEEE.

300-GHz Beam-Steering Wireless Communication Enabled by 4-Array InGaAs UTC-PD on SiC Substrate and Optical Phased Array

This paper presents a high-performance 4-array InGaAs UTC-PD fabricated on a silicon carbide (SiC) substrate, designed to improve thermal management and enhance output power for terahertz (THz) wave applications. The developed 4-array UTC-PD configuration enables precise beam steering at 300 GHz, demonstrating multi-directional wireless communication utilizing On-Off Keying (OOK) modulation. The SiC substrate with thermal conductivity approximately seven times higher than that of conventional indium phosphide (InP) substrates suppresses device overheating, preventing thermal damage and performance degradation even under high photocurrent conditions, while significantly enhancing THz output power. Furthermore, we successfully demonstrated the real-time transmission of uncompressed 4K video, underscoring the feasibility of this system for high-capacity THz wireless communication applications. Finally, Beam-Switching Time Division Multiplexing (BS-TDM) was also implemented and evaluated, demonstrating its potential for efficient resource allocation in next-generation wireless systems. © 2025 IEEE.

A Hybrid Data-Driven Approach Integrating Temporal Fusion Transformer and Soft Actor-Critic Algorithm for Optimal Scheduling of Building Integrated Energy Systems

Building integrated energy systems (BIESs) are pivotal for enhancing energy efficiency by accounting for a significant proportion of global energy consumption. Two key barriers that reduce the BIES operational efficiency mainly lie in the renewable generation uncertainty and operational non-convexity of combined heat and power (CHP) units. To this end, this paper proposes a soft actor-critic (SAC) algorithm to solve the scheduling problem of BIES, which overcomes the model non-convexity and shows advantages in robustness and generalization. This paper also adopts a temporal fusion transformer (TFT) to enhance the optimal solution for the SAC algorithm by forecasting the renewable generation and energy demand. The TFT can effectively capture the complex temporal patterns and dependencies that span multiple steps. Furthermore, its forecasting results are interpretable due to the employment of a self-attention layer so as to assist in more trustworthy decision-making in the SAC algorithm. The proposed hybrid data-driven approach integrating TFT and SAC algorithm, i.e., TFT-SAC approach, is trained and tested on a real-world dataset to validate its superior performance in reducing the energy cost and computational time compared with the benchmark approaches. The generalization performance for the scheduling policy, as well as the sensitivity analysis, are examined in the case studies.
