Optical intelligent reflecting surface (OIRS) has been considered a promising technology for visible light communication (VLC) by constructing visual line-of-sight propagation paths to address the signal blockage issue. However, the existing works on OIRSs are mostly based on perfect channel state information (CSI), whose acquisition appears to be challenging due to the passive nature of the OIRS. To tackle this challenge, this paper proposes a customized channel estimation algorithm for OIRSs. Specifically, we first unveil the OIRS spatial coherence characteristics and derive the coherence distance in closed form. Based on this property, a spatial sampling-based algorithm is proposed to estimate the OIRS-reflected channel, by dividing the OIRS into multiple subarrays based on the coherence distance and sequentially estimating their associated CSI, followed by an interpolation to retrieve the full CSI. Simulation results validate the derived OIRS spatial coherence and demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed OIRS channel estimation algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of Terminal Sliding Mode Control (TSMC) and Super Twisting Sliding Mode Control (SOSMC), in the context of full-bridge single-phase inverters. The controllers are designed to output current control of the single-phase inverter. Simulation studies are performed on MATLAB/Simulink platform to investigate the dynamic responses, steady-state error, ripple magnitude and total harmonic distortion (THD). The results indicate that TSMC offers faster response times but suffers from significant undershoot and higher steady-state errors. Conversely, SOSMC demonstrates superior performance with lower steady-state error, reduced ripple and significantly less harmonic distortion. These findings highlight the relative advantages and disadvantages of each control strategy, providing valuable insights for their application in both academic research and industrial practice. © 2024 IEEE.

With the rapid advancement of intelligent IoT services, the need for high-quality and efficient wireless communication has become increasingly critical for information exchanges and collaborations among intelligent edge devices such as autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), robots in smart factories, and surveillance cameras, etc., Federated Learning (FL) is a promising distributed learning framework by exploring the computation capability on edge devices while protecting data privacy of users. On the other hand, Over-the-Air (OTA) computation techniques is a new paradigm of integrated computation and communication. OTA based FL (OTA-FL) can enhance spectrum efficiency by leveraging the superposition properties of wireless channels for model aggregations. The implementation of OTA-FL on edge devices can further protect user data privacy for clients, improve the throughput of inter-device communications, and enhance the distributed learning performance. However, despite these advantages, the convergence of OTA-FL systems remain vulnerable to model poisoning attacks, presenting significant challenges. In this study, we address these vulnerabilities by proposing a two-phase detection mechanism that secures OTA-FL system while preserving high spectral efficiency. Our simulation results demonstrate that under varying conditions, our approach can make distributed learning more secure and communication-efficient. © 2025 IEEE.

Breast cancer is an occurrence of cancer that attacks breast tissue and is the most common cancer among women worldwide, affecting one in eight women. In this modern world, breast cancer image classification simplifies the process of analyzing, providing objective and accurate results. By leveraging machine learning algorithms and computer vision techniques, we developed breast cancer detection. The dataset is histopathology dataset from BreakHis and UNHAS Hospital. We chose the ConvNeXt-Tiny model then modified the classifier head as the proposed method. Before the dataset is processed by the model, we augment the images by applying random horizontal and vertical flips, adjustments to brightness, contrast, saturation, and hue using color jitter. The augmentation process simulates real-world variance and enhances the model's ability to generalize to unseen data. Our proposed model gained better performance (accuracy, F1-Score) results compared two other techniques to VGG16 and SVM. According to our experiments, the F1-Score for the ConvNeXt-Tiny model with classifier head modification is higher at 0.9516, than the gain for VGG16 at 0.9292, and the gain for the SVM at 0.83. © 2024 IEEE.

Following the market trend, fast and strict verification of hardware architecture is essential for saving cost and time of production. Recently, Verilator, an open-source Verilog simulator, is widely used due to its fast simulation time as well as easy-to-use property. In this paper, we present a fast verification methodology for BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) MAC (Medium Access Control) hardware based on Verilator. Since C++-based modeling can be easily integrated into the Verilog-based hardware platform with Verilator, complex verification scenarios with various parameter configurations can be supported. Compared to the commercial Verilog simulator, our verification platform shows up to 5.94 times of improvement in terms of simulation time. © 2023 IEEE.

As a System on Chip (SoC) hardware complexity grows dramatically, it becomes more difficult to find the optimal SoC architecture with various hardware IPs. Accordingly, SoC architecture exploration should be performed before the chip-level implementation where various types of on-chip interconnect topology are compared according to the on-chip traffic patterns from a number of hardware IPs in terms of area, transaction latency, power consumption, etc. In this paper, we propose a high-level AMBA (Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture) Monitoring Platform where various traffic statistics can be obtained with C++ modeling using open-source Verilator. For the evaluation, we built the baseline SoC platform with Arm Cortex-M4F CPU core and various hardware IPs. With the proposed high-level AMBA monitoring platform, the high-level C++ modeling of on-chip traffic analysis allows to find optimal AMBA on-chip interconnects in the early stages with fast analysis time based on the on-chip traffic analysis. © 2023 IEEE.

AES-CCM (Advanced Encryption Standard-Counter with CBC-MAC) is an encryption and decryption method that guarantees the integrity and authenticity of data, commonly used for wireless security systems. The AES Core performs the central functions for encryption and decryption of the AES-CCM, so many studies are being conducted to implement it efficiently. In this paper, to investigate the impact of the hardware-software partitioning of the AES-CCM implementation for Bluetooth LE (Low Energy), we compare the results between the software-only implementation and hardware-software co-design approach where the AES encryption into the hardware and the rest into the software. As a result, a well-balanced co-design implementation of the AES-CCM shows a reduced latency of up to 77.4% compared to the software-only implementation for the Bluetooth LE system. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to declining birthrate and aging population in our society, the number of people in need of care is increasing. Recording the amount of leftover food by care recipients is a critical task;However, due to the shortage of caregivers, automation through IoT-based system is required. This paper proposes a user-friendly leftover detection system using Android device to reducing caregiver burden and improving the accuracy of leftover measurements for monitoring health. This system includes functionalities for easy annotation, training, and inference execution on Android. Additionally, the system is designed to allow the selection of continuous learning as a training method, enabling the model to be trained with newly added data in a short amount of time. The AI model used in this system not only infers leftover areas from input images but also implements algorithms for detecting anomalous inputs. In the experiments, the our system's inference performance for leftover rice and soup achieved a mIoU of 0.876. And the implementation of continuous learning significantly reduced training time while maintaining model performance, enhancing system efficiency and user-friendliness. In anomaly detection, the system was able to effectively exclude data unrelated to the meal setup. Future work includes incorporating advanced AI models, such as SAM, to assist the annotation process, further alleviating user burden. © 2024 IEEE.

Recently, the research on daily health monitoring using a wearable sensor has been continually evolving. In the future, when this system is actually implemented, a vast amount of data transmission will be conducted from multiple sensors to the cloud server. A system capable of transmitting, storing, processing, and visualizing massive volumes of data is necessary for health monitoring. This research aims to develop a health monitoring system that can accommodate a high amount of data with high performance. The proposed techniques include numerous modifications to system architecture and technology. In the system architecture, a multi-database is proposed to enhance the reliability of the system. As an enhancement to the technology aspect, a time series database and MQTT server are proposed. As the result, the proposed system achieves significantly better performance in terms of throughput, database-writing speed, and database-reading speed compared to the existing system. © 2022 IEEE.
