In this study, the generation probability of point defects was obtained from the formation energy of the point defects based on first-principles calculations and the microscopic elastic scattering cross-sections. From the results, the generation probability of point defects of Nd2Fe14B and Sm2Co17 both rose sharply when the incident energy was around 10 eV. When the incident energy became higher than 10 eV, the point defect generation probabilities both became close to 1. However, since the incident energy at which the point defect generation probability exceeded 0 was higher for Co than Fe, Sm2Co17 was found more stable than Nd2Fe14B under high energy. © 2023 IEEE.

The development of superconducting joining technology for reacted magnesium diboride(MgB_(2))conductors remains a critical challenge for the advancement of cryogen-free MgB_(2)-based magnets for magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).Herein,the fabrication of superconducting joints using reacted carbon-doped multifilament MgB_(2)wires for MRI magnets is *** achieve successful superconducting joints,the powder-in-mold method was employed,which involved tuning the filament protection mechanism,the powder compaction pressure,and the heat treatment *** fabricated joints demonstrated clear superconducting-to-normal transitions in self-field,with effective magnetic field screening up to 0.5 T at 20 *** evaluate the interface between one of the MgB_(2)filaments and the MgB_(2)bulk within the joint,serial sectioning was conducted for the first time in this type of superconducting *** serial sectioning revealed space formation at the interface,potentially caused by the volume shrinkage associated with the MgB_(2)formation or the combined effect of the volume shrinkage and the different thermal expansion coefficients of the MgB_(2)bulk,the filament,the mold,and the sealing *** findings are expected to be pivotal in developing MgB_(2)superconducting joining technology for MRI magnet applications through interface engineering.

With recent technological developments, object detection has become an important component of many computer vision applications, such as autonomous driving, image recognition, unmanned surveillance, healthcare, and other industrial applications. This study compares the latest iterations of the YOLO family (small, YOLOv8, YOLOv9, YOLOv10 and YOLO11 with medium and large variants), SSD300-VGG16 and EfficientDet (D0 to D7) object detection models in terms of Frames Per Second (FPS), Inference Time, Precision, Recall, F1-Score, Mean Average Precision (mAP) and Intersection over Union (IoU) metrics on the MS COCO 2017 dataset. The PyTorch framework is used to test each model on identical hardware and software setups. The results show that the best choices for real-time applications are the YOLO models, especially the Yolov8s and Yolov10s models. The SSD300, on the other hand, performs admirably in terms of speed, but lags far behind its competitors in terms of accuracy metrics. However, the EfficientDet models offer a balance between accuracy and speed, making them suitable for applications where a balance between the two is required. This comprehensive comparative analysis identifies the advantages and disadvantages of different object detection models, allowing researchers and practitioners to select the optimum model based on application-specific requirements. Considering the trade-off between real-time applications and scenarios requiring high accuracy, the study provides insights to support the development of object identification applications in both academic and industrial fields.

An international research collaboration under IEA (the International Energy Agency) Wind TCP (Technical Collaboration programme) Task 25 (Design and Operation of Energy Systems with large amount of Variable Generation) has previously performed an international comparison analysis on the curtailment of wind and solar power in various countries/areas in the world in 2022. This paper gives a comparison overview of the curtailment rates, presented as C-E maps (curtailment as a share of VRE and power system demand). As previous statistical data was as until 2020, some data has been updated. The latest information and the future estimations of curtailment in several countries/areas are summarised, including Ireland, California and Texas in U.S., and Japan. We also discuss the possible impacts of battery storage and demand response, which may contribute to reduced wind & solar curtailment, despite very high VRE (variable renewable energy) shares. © Energynautics GmbH.

Research has been carried out to monitor vehicle tires before they are used and can reduce damage, including overcoming vehicle fuel waste because air pressure is continuously monitored. This research aims to utilize the MPX5500DP sensor as an air pressure device, the LM35 sensor as a temperature reader, and a buzzer based on IoT to build a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The MPX5500DP and LM35 sensor inputs to the Arduino Uno microcontroller are distributed by the NodeMCU, fitted with a Wi-Fi module. The Blynk application sends and displays the data on a smartphone using the IoT-based. Based on this research, data on the percentage of errors in monitoring air pressure and tire temperature on vehicles were obtained by comparing the data to the pressure gauge and thermometer: 1-the results of the average reading of the sensor error value. MPX5500DP air pressure against pressure gauge is 5.3%. 2-the average reading of the LM35 sensor error value on the temperature thermometer is 6.8%. With this research, the air pressure and temperature in the tires can be monitored in real-Time via a smartphone using the IoT-based. © 2022 IEEE.

Renewable energy resources emerge as a sustainable alternative to augmenting the energy supply of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) platforms. However, the increased generation based on converter-interfaced energy decreases the system-equivalent inertia constant, which becomes more susceptible to frequency deviations. This paper proposes and evaluates the performance of the combined frequency-voltage-var control to mitigate frequency variation in a typical FPSO unit with penetration of wind power systems. The control functions are communication-free and embedded in two active front-end variable frequency drives (AFE- VFDs) set on water injection pumps. The FPSO's electrical power system model is developed in MATLAB/Simulink®. Comparative results with the AFE-VFD equipped with volt-var, freq-var, and combined freq-volt-var functions are shown to highlight the merits of the proposed solution. © 2023 IEEE.

In this study, we explore the classification and prediction capabilities of three models-Genetic programming (GP), Logistic Regression (LR), and the Kolmogorov-Arnold Network (KAN)-on the task of sodium-ion battery life prediction. By leveraging a dataset composed of multiple battery characteristics, we aim to determine the remaining power of sodium-ion batteries using these machine learning models. The KAN model, being a novel approach, demonstrates superior performance across various metrics, including accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, when compared to the other two models. This highlights the potential of KAN as a robust model for complex classification tasks in the field of battery life prediction. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

This paper aims to analyze the effect on power quality of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) power system under high penetration of wind-based power generation. A set of results simulated in MATLAB/Simulink® is shown to assess different operational scenarios of a typical Brazilian FPSO, from Mero Oil Field. The floating offshore wind power penetration is varied from 10 to 50 MW and the FPSO power quality effects are reported;then the effect of increasing the umbilical distance from 12 to 150 km between the wind farm and FPSO is evaluated;and finally, the reduction in the number of gas turbine generators (3 and 2 generators) is performed. The conclusions are drawn based on steady-state and transient voltage and frequency profiles;active and reactive power flow between loads and generation;the rate of change of frequency and the minimum frequency reached under the disturbance event when a wind generation loss of 10 MW is triggered. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents the human fall detection by convolutional neural network (CNN) classification and MobileNet algorithm. In order to reduce the number of parameter, we propose a vision-based fall detection model, that is called “Applied Depthwise separable-based CNN-MobileNet (ACM) algorithm”. This model is based on CNN, deptwise convolution and pointwise convolution of MobileNet algorithm. Experimental results show the accuracy of proposed ACM model about 97.68% and number of parameters of proposed ACM model is less than conventional CNN model.
