Exceptional points(EPs)have been extensively explored in mechanical,acoustic,plasmonic,and photonic ***,little is known about the role of EPs in tailoring the dynamic tunability of optical devices.A specific type of EPs known as chiral EPs has recently attracted much attention for controlling the flow of light and for building sensors with better responsivity.A recently demonstrated route to chiral EPs via lithographically defined symmetric Mie scatterers on the rim of resonators has not only provided the much-needed mechanical stability for studying chiral EPs,but also helped reduce losses originating from nanofabrication imperfections,facilitating the in-situ study of chiral EPs and their contribution to the dynamics and tunability of ***,we use asymmetric Mie scatterers to break the rotational symmetry of a microresonator,to demonstrate deterministic thermal tuning across a chiral EP,and to demonstrate EP-mediated chiral optical nonlinear response and efficient electro-optic *** results indicate asymmetric electro-optic modulation with up to 17 dB contrast at GHz and CMOS-compatible voltage *** wafer-scale nano-manufacturing of chiral electro-optic modulators and the chiral EP-tailored tunning may facilitate new micro-resonator functionalities in quantum information processing,electromagnetic wave control,and optical interconnects.

Performance of Orthogonal Delay-Doppler Division Multiplexing Modulation with Imperfect Channel Estimation

The orthogonal delay-Doppler division multiplexing (ODDM) modulation is a recently proposed multi-carrier modulation that features a realizable pulse orthogonal with respect to the delay-Doppler (DD) plane’s fine resolutions. In this paper, we investigate the performance of ODDM systems with imperfect channel estimation considering three detectors, namely the message passing algorithm (MPA) detector, iterative maximum-ratio combining (MRC) detector, and successive interference cancellation with minimum mean square error (SIC-MMSE) detector. We derive the post-equalization signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) for MRC and SIC-MMSE and analyze their bit error rate (BER) performance. Based on this analysis, we propose the MRC with subtractive dither (MRC-SD) and soft SIC-MMSE initialized MRC (SSMI-MRC) detector to improve the BER of iterative MRC. Our results demonstrate that soft SIC-MMSE consistently outperforms the other detectors in BER performance under perfect and imperfect CSI. While MRC exhibits a BER floor above 10−5, MRC-SD effectively lowers the BER with a negligible increase in detection complexity. SSMI-MRC achieves better BER than hard SIC-MMSE with the same detection complexity order. Additionally, we show that MPA has an error floor and is sensitive to imperfect CSI. The insertion of fast charging stations (FCSs) and distributed energy resources (DERs) aggravates technical issues in the electrical power system, such as variations in the point of common coupling (PCC) voltage profile and overload on feeders. Ancillary services provided by these elements help to reduce these issues and microgrid (μG) control algorithms coordinate these ancillary services. However, microgrid control studies focus on solutions that do not simultaneously coordinate FCSs and DERs, nor the coordination of advanced microgrids and FCSs. This paper proposes a coordinated and simultaneous control of FCSs and advanced microgrids. The results show that the proposed method performs the ancillary services of valley filling and peak shaving in a minigrid (MG) (i.e., a set of advanced microgrids, FCSs and others). This method allows the voltage profile to be maintained at appropriate levels, ensuring the commitment to vehicle recharging and the independence of the advanced microgrid.

Ensuring stable integration of diverse soft electronic components for reliable operation under dynamic conditions is ***,integrating soft electronics,comprising various materials like polymers,metals,and hydrogels,poses challenges due to their different mechanical and chemical *** study introduces a dried-hydrogel adhesive made of poly(vinyl alcohol)and tannic acid multilayers(d-HAPT),which integrates soft electronic materials through moisture-derived chain entanglement.d-HAPT is a thin(~1μm)and highly transparent(over 85%transmittance in the visible light region)adhesive,showing robust bonding(up to 3.6 MPa)within a short time(<1 min).d-HAPT demonstrates practical application in wearable devices,including a hydrogel touch panel and strain ***,the potential of d-HAPT for use in implantable electronics is demonstrated through in vivo neuromodulation and electrocardiographic recording experiments while confirming its biocompatibility both in vitro and in *** is expected that d-HAPT will provide a reliable platform for integrating soft electronic applications.

As the electrical vehicle fleet grows, extreme fast charging (XFC) stations for multiple vehicles will be increasingly needed. The challenges for the implementation of many XFC stations in the electric power system are many and it is necessary to use converters that reduce the negative impacts on the electric grid, meet the standards and recommendations, and that are technically and economically viable. This work proposes an XFC station for multiple vehicles that has a very low current harmonics injection at the grid side, with a Total Demand Distortion (TDD) of 0.62% without using sinusoidal filter, provides galvanic isolation for each input/output port, and can provide additional features such as Distributed Energy Resources (DER) integration and ancillary services. This is achieved by combining a bidirectional low switching frequency grid-connected active front-end with high switching frequency SiC-based dc/dc converters in the vehicles side. After a brief description of the proposed system and its control, simulation results are presented to validate the XFC. © 2022 IEEE.

In recent years, deep convolutional networks (DCNN) have gained popularity for different classification (or recognition) tasks. In this paper, three well known DCNN structures were used, i.e., AlexNet, SqueezeNet and GoogLeNet, and their classification performances in recognizing handwritten Bangla isolated characters were compared. These networks have simpler structures compared to the recent DCNNs. Experiments on a standard Bangla database revealed that the overall performance of GoogLeNet is slightly better than the other two networks. Further analysis using saliency maps of the test samples revealed the important features that are learned by the networks for classifying characters. This information led us to understand why classification of some samples fail and how to rectify these. © (2023), (International Association of Engineers). All Rights Reserved.

Universities can employ information technology as one means of achieving their goals and objectives. Universities can get advantages from information technology, such as effective resource management and information management for decision-making. However, don't forget that the campus must consider what technology is appropriate to assist them achieve their goals, particularly in the current industrial era 4.0 where technology is available with many different choices. The campus requires an enterprise architecture in order to design, manage, and coordinate information technology infrastructure, applications, and processes strategically and thoroughly. The adoption of enterprise information system architecture (EA) is also intended to improve the quality of services provided to internal and external stakeholders. In this case, Enterprise Architecture can help an organization to match its information technology resources with business processes and strategies to achieve their goals. This research was conducted using TOGAF ADM, also known as the Open Group Architecture Framework Architecture Development Method. The structural inhomogeneity of an L10-FePt grain in a granular film was investigated, and its blocking phenomenon was simulated. It was confirmed that 1) structural analysis reveals that both lattice distorted disordered portion at near the interface with MgO underlayer and ordered potion at the upper region exist inside one FePt grain in a granular film, 2) simulation of blocking phenomenon for FePt grains with structural inhomogeneity, hard (order)/soft (disorder) bilayer grains, shows that switching field (Hsw) increases steeply near TC of the disorder layer with decreasing temperature. To generalize blocking phenomenon of the hard/soft bilayer structure, it was found that matching the Curie temperatures of the hard and soft layers leads to high Hsw near the TC, which means high robustness against thermal field in random direction. These are useful findings for the design of cap-layer media for HAMR to realize the high spatial resolution. © 2023 IEEE.

Battery energy storage systems (BESS) are crucial for microgrids, enhancing dynamic performance and mitigating uncertainties inherent to isolated environments characterized by intermittent power generation. When microgrid is supplied by wind power in connection with BESS, the bidirectional DC-DC converter associated with BESS assumes a critical responsibility—ensuring the control of a wind power supplied DC-link. This permits the Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) to synthesize consistent voltages for the connected AC load. However, challenges emerge, particularly in arduous stress on switches of the bidirectional converter attributed to elevated current ripple. This stress does not only prejudice the overall system’s functioning but can also potentially leading it to shutdown in case of switch failure. Traditionally, the conventional buck-boost converter topology has been the go-to choice for this application, nevertheless, exploring novel converter topologies, such as interleaved bidirectional DC-DC converter (IBDC) has garnered attention, promising enhanced performance. This paper’s goal is to conduct a comparative analysis of the operation of these converters in an islanded microgrid supplied by a single Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (PMSG) small-scale wind turbine with a BESS system. Load variation with Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) operation of the PMSG is performed during MATLAB/Simulink environment simulations. The results suggest significant advantages for the interleaved three-phase converter, such as reduced battery charging current ripple, switch disturbance, and voltage ripple in the DC-link.

New type of thin-film neuromorphic devices which integrate memristors and capacitors have been demonstrated. Using the dynamic behavior of memristors and capacitors circuit, we constructed the sum-of-products circuit for the continuous spike pulses. By experiments and circuit simulation, it was confirmed that the operation of each is the same. As these behaviors are similar to changes in membrane potential, we thought that the integrated devices could be used as synapses in neural networks. © 2023 FTFMD.
