A mid-level labor preparation having the qualification and competency appropriate with working world needs is a task from vocational secondary school (VSS). Now days, VSS become an attention by wide community, as a result of the existence of government policy which is trying to empowering vocational secondary education. The policy taken is by performing the revitalization of vocational school which has the aim to improve the quality of labor competitiveness. One of the programs is teacher quality improvement through various teacher training. However, relating to this case, it is suspected that the previous vocational school teacher training is less effective, so that it needs to be conducted the analysis about the teacher training implementation. Therefore, this article will be elaborated the ways needed to be conducted in improving the educational quality and vocational school teacher development training. The ways should be considered when it is planned and implemented the effective training program, such as: determining the needs, setting the goal, determining the content of learning, selecting the participants, determining the best schedule, selecting the appropriate facilities, selecting the proper instructor, selecting and preparing the audiovisual equipment, coordinating the program and evaluating the program. © 2021 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This work focuses on the solution for multi-agent, collision-free, time-varying path-following problems in 3D spaces. The proposed solution is based on using time-varying artificial vector fields to generate velocity references for single agents. A distributed Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme is employed, taking into account the system’s dynamics and collision avoidance features, enabling the multi-robot system to follow the dynamic field without collisions and providing great computational efficiency. More specifically, Optimal Reciprocal Collision Avoidance (ORCA) algorithm is used to set constraints, yielding a novel MPC-ORCA approach, for efficient collision avoidance in the multi-agent scenario. Simulation scenarios are used to validate and compare the proposed approach with traditional methods, highlighting its improvements.

This paper addresses the problem of controlling two distinct formations of robots interacting with one another. In order to do that, two different approaches for a line structure are defined and a controller based on virtual structures is used, as well as a low level controller in order to compensate for the dynamics of each robot. Tying both controllers is a multilayer structure responsible for the overall control. Simulations and experiments show the controllers working with different levels of complexity and help validate the proposed method.

Highly efficient OLED achieved by periodic corrugations using facile fabrication

In this study, a newly facile method for fabricating corrugations as light extractor in OLED was developed. The corrugated structure fabricated using simple polymer molding and ultraviolet (UV) forming was identified to feature high transmittance of 87.5 % and a haze of 38.5 % in UV–vis wavelength range, respectively, promoting the light extraction. Consequently, compared with planar OLED, corrugated OLED with period of 417 nm was found to exhibit a significant increase in external quantum efficiency (η_EQE), rising from 25.5 % to 34.0 %, while maintaining identical electrical characteristics. In addition, attaching a macro-lens to further improve the η_EQE by an impressive 52.6 %. Overall, a remarkable enhancement of 106.2 % was achieved through internal corrugation combined with an external lens, which can be attributed to the reduction of total internal reflection in waveguide and substrate modes, along with minimized light loss in surface plasmon polariton mode. These findings highlight the potential of periodic corrugated structures in realizing efficient OLEDs for lighting or next generation displays. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

Error-disturbance uncertainty relations in a superconducting quantum processor

We experimentally test the error-disturbance uncertainty relation (EDR) in generalized, variable strength measurements of superconducting qubits on a NISQ processor. Making use of sequential weak measurements that keeps the initial signal state practically unchanged prior to the main measurement, we demonstrate that the Heisenberg EDR is violated, yet the Ozawa and Branciard EDRs are valid throughout the range of measurement strengths from no measurement to projection measurement. Our results verify that universal EDRs are valid even in a noisy quantum processor and will stimulate research on measurement-based quantum information and communication protocols using a NISQ processor. © 2023, CC BY.

In a recent paper [Phys. Rev. A 105, 042220 (2022)], Daley et al. claim that some superdeterministic models are disfavored relative to standard quantum mechanics because such models overfit the statistics of a Bell-type experiment which the authors conducted. We add to the discussion by providing additional context about how few superdeterministic models fall into the category they analyze, and by emphasizing that overfitting, while better as a measure of fine-tuning than other measures given in the literature, does not necessarily indicate a model is universally bad.

Industrial production and packaging face significant challenges, such as product damage, color changes, and the presence of foreign bodies. These issues greatly impact product quality, profitability, and marketability, leading to increased consumer complaints. To address these concerns, this study presents a novel method for classifying Taralli biscuits using image processing techniques. The research encompasses a dataset of 4,900 images, featuring four types of defects: no defect, defect-shape, defect-object, and defect-color. Leveraging advanced deep learning architectures, including MobileNet-v2 and DenseNet-201, the classification process achieves impressive accuracy rates of 98.71% and 99.39% respectively. By automating the detection of biscuit damage, the proposed method enhances quality control and inspection processes within the food industry. The combination of state-of-the-art image processing and deep learning techniques in this research provides an effective solution for automatically detecting and categorizing biscuit defects.

In TIG arc welding, technicians use a rolling technique to ensure high quality welds. In this rolling technique, the cathode is rotated while welding. However, the rolling method is difficult and complicated. As a countermeasure, it has been proposed that a magnetic field is applied to rotate the arc. When a magnetic field is applied, it is difficult to measure the arc behavior and the convection of the molten pool. Hence, numerical methods for the arc have been developed [1] , [2] . Moreover, the arc behavior is analyzed with applying magnetic field [3] . In this paper, molten pool with applying axial magnetic field in TIG arc welding transient was analyzed. Specifically, analytical model was constructed for solid, liquid, and gas, and four forces were calculated for the molten pool. The four forces are drag force of plasma flow, shear stress of Marangoni effect, buoyancy, and electromagnetic force. As a result, a spiral flow velocity was generated in the molten pool with the application of axial magnetic field. In addition, the flow velocity of the molten pool was more affected by the axial magnetic field than that of the arc. Therefore, it was possible that transient analysis of molten pool with applying axial magnetic field in TIG arc welding.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a leading cause of disability, particularly affecting older adults due to the deterioration of articular cartilage within the knee joint. This condition is characterized by pain, stiffness, and impaired movement, posing a significant challenge in medical diagnostics and treatment planning, especially due to the current inability for early and accurate detection or monitoring of disease progression. This research introduces a multifaceted approach employing feature extraction and machine learning (ML) to improve the accuracy of diagnosing and classifying KOA stages from radiographic images. Utilizing a dataset of 3154 knee X-ray images, this study implemented feature extraction methods such as Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) with Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) and Min–Max scaling to prepare the data for classification. The study evaluates six ML classifiers—K Nearest Neighbors classifier, Support Vector Machine (SVM), Gaussian Naive Bayes, Decision Tree, Random Forest, and XGBoost—optimized via GridSearchCV for hyperparameter tuning within a 10-fold Stratified K-Fold cross-validation framework. An ensemble model has also been made for the already high-accuracy models to explore the possibility of enhancing the accuracy and reducing the risk of overfitting. The XGBoost classifier and the ensemble model emerged as the most efficient for multiclass classification, with an accuracy of 98.90%, distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy knees. These results underscore the potential of integrating advanced ML methodologies for the nuanced and accurate diagnosis and classification of KOA, offering new avenues for clinical application and future research in medical imaging diagnostics. © 2024 by the authors.

System for the analysis of human balance based on accelerometers and support vector machines

Disturbances in balance control lead to movement impairment and severe discomfort, dizziness, vertigo and may also lead to serious accidents. It is important to monitor the level of balance in order to determine the risk of a fall and to evaluate progress during treatment. Some solutions exist, but they are generally restricted to indoor environments. We propose and evaluate a system, based on accelerometers and support vector machines, that indicates the user's postural balance variation which can be used in indoor and outdoor environments. For the training phase of the system, we used the accelerometer signals acquired from a single subject under monitored conditions of balance and intentional imbalance, and used the scores provided by the SWAY®software for establishing the reference target values. Based on these targets, we trained a support vector machine to classify the signal into n levels of balance and later evaluated the performance using cross validation by random resampling. We also developed a support vector machine approach for estimating the center of pressure, by using as reference targets the results from a force platform. For validation, we performed experiments with a subject who was performing determined movements. Later other experiments were executed, so the different centers of pressure could be computed by our system and compared to the results from the force platform. We also performed tests with a dummy and a John Doe doll, in order to observe the system's behavior in the presence of a sudden drop or a lack of balance. The results show that the system can classify the acquired signals into two to seven levels of balance, with significant accuracy, and was also able to infer the centroid of each center of pressure region with an error lower than 0.9 cm.
