Optical Study on Temperature-Dependent Absorption Edge of γ-InSe-Layered Semiconductor

We have studied the variations in the temperature-dependent absorption edge of a bulk InSe-layered semiconductor using photoconductivity (PC) measurements. From both the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman experimental results, the structural phase of the as-prepared InSe sample was confirmed to be γ-polytype. Upon heating from 15 K to 300 K, the absorption edge of PC spectra was found to shift significantly toward lower energy, and the absorption edge as a function of temperature was further analyzed by the Varshni’s relationship and Bose–Einstein empirical equation. The Urbach energy as a function of temperature was obtained by fitting the absorption tail below the absorption coefficient of the PC spectrum, and the effective phonon energy can be derived from the temperature-dependent steepness parameter associated with Urbach energy. Our study indicates that the broadening of the absorption edge in the as-synthesized bulk γ-InSe is caused by a combination of electron/exciton–phonon interactions and thermal/structural disorder. © 2024 by the authors.

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) are essential for modern transportation systems, but their openness exposes them to cyber threats. Authentication in VANETs is challenged by dynamic topology and high mobility, requiring robust mechanisms. Previously, we proposed an authentication system for VANETs using blockchain and Kerberos. Kerberos authenticator messages are stored in a blockchain ledger accessible to the Trusted Authentication Server (TAS) and Roadside Units (RSUs), resulting in minimal signaling overhead and authentication delay. However, the performance of the blockchain itself was not evaluated. In this paper, we investigate the blockchain’s performance in a simulated VANET environment with 100 vehicles, 4 RSUs, and 1 TAS. Using Ethereum blockchain and Omnet++ simulation, we assess the blockchain feasibility in VANET authentication scenarios.

Cascaded H-bridge (CHB) static compensator (Stat-Com) enhances stability of the electricity power grid, which is becoming ever increasingly vulnerable as a consequence of replacing fossil fuel-based synchronous generators by intermitten renewable sources. A CHB StatCom needs large dc capacitors in the submodules to operate, which is a major drawback that hinders a widespread use of this technology. In order to overcome this drawback, the low-capacitance StatCom (LC-StatCom) technology was developed. Other than reducing the capacitors size, improvement in power quality and reduced losses were listed as further advantages of the LC-StatCom. On the other hand, control challenges and reduced stable operating range are the main challenges of this technology. This study aims to provide a better understanding of the prospects and challenges of the LC-StatCom technology as compared to the conventional $C$ HB StatComs.

Breast cancer is an occurrence of cancer that attacks breast tissue and is the most common cancer among women worldwide, affecting one in eight women. In this modern world, breast cancer image classification simplifies the process of analyzing, providing objective and accurate results. By leveraging machine learning algorithms and computer vision techniques, we developed breast cancer detection. The dataset is histopathology dataset from BreakHis and UNHAS Hospital. We chose the ConvNeXt-Tiny model then modified the classifier head as the proposed method. Before the dataset is processed by the model, we augment the images by applying random horizontal and vertical flips, adjustments to brightness, contrast, saturation, and hue using color jitter. The augmentation process simulates real-world variance and enhances the model's ability to generalize to unseen data. Our proposed model gained better performance (accuracy, F1-Score) results compared two other techniques to VGG16 and SVM. According to our experiments, the F1-Score for the ConvNeXt-Tiny model with classifier head modification is higher at 0.9516, than the gain for VGG16 at 0.9292, and the gain for the SVM at 0.83.

Inspired by the orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation, in this paper, we consider designing a multicarrier (MC) modulation on delay-Doppler (DD) plane, to couple the modulated signal with a doubly-selective channel having DD resolutions. A key challenge for the design of DD plane MC modulation is to investigate whether a realizable pulse orthogonal with respect to the DD plane’s fine resolutions exists or not. To this end, we first indicate that a feasible DD plane MC modulation is essentially a type of staggered multitone modulation. Then, analogous to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, we propose an orthogonal delay-Doppler division multiplexing (ODDM) modulation, and design the corresponding transmit pulse. Furthermore, we prove that the proposed transmit pulse is orthogonal with respect to the DD plane’s resolutions and therefore a realizable DD plane orthogonal pulse does exist. The orthogonality of this particular pulse significantly eases the derivation of the ODDM’s DD domain channel input-output relation, and yields a channel matrix with an elegant block-circulant-like structure. We demonstrate that the ODDM outperforms the OTFS in terms of out-of-band emission and bit error rate, by achieving perfect coupling between the modulated signal and the DD channel. © 2022, CC BY-NC-SA.

As a System on Chip (SoC) hardware complexity grows dramatically, it becomes more difficult to find the optimal SoC architecture with various hardware IPs. Accordingly, SoC architecture exploration should be performed before the chip-level implementation where various types of on-chip interconnect topology are compared according to the on-chip traffic patterns from a number of hardware IPs in terms of area, transaction latency, power consumption, etc. In this paper, we propose a high-level AMBA (Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture) Monitoring Platform where various traffic statistics can be obtained with C++ modeling using open-source Verilator. For the evaluation, we built the baseline SoC platform with Arm Cortex-M4F CPU core and various hardware IPs. With the proposed high-level AMBA monitoring platform, the high-level C++ modeling of on-chip traffic analysis allows to find optimal AMBA on-chip interconnects in the early stages with fast analysis time based on the on-chip traffic analysis.

The crystal direction dependences of anisotropic magnetoresistances in Co2MnGa and Co2MnAl epitaxial thin films grown on MgO(100) substrate were investigated experimentally and theoretically by changing the Co content. Both Co2MnGa and Co2MnAl films showed the maximum values in the AMR ratios at the Co content of approximately 50 at%. The AMR ratios of Co2MnGa showed the negative values for the current direction I // Co2MnGa[110] and positive values for I // Co2MnGa[100], whereas Co2MnAl showed only the positive AMR ratios independent of the current direction. The calculated AMR ratios from s-d scattering theory of the electrons, including the density of state (DOS) information from first principles calculations, well reproduced the experimental features. We found that the AMR ratios of Co2MnGa and Co2MnAl can be explained by s-d scattering depending on the current direction against the crystal axis. © 2023 IEEE.

Seams are information-rich components of garments. The presence of different types of seams and their combinations helps to select grasping points for garment handling. In this paper, we propose a new Seam-Informed Strategy (SIS) for finding actions for handling a garment, such as grasping and unfolding a T-shirt. Candidates for a pair of grasping points for a dual-arm manipulator system are extracted using the proposed Seam Feature Extraction Method (SFEM). A pair of grasping points for the robot system is selected by the proposed Decision Matrix Iteration Method (DMIM). The decision matrix is first computed by multiple human demonstrations and updated by the robot execution results to improve the grasping and unfolding performance of the robot. Note that the proposed scheme is trained on real data without relying on simulation. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. This paper presents a novel auto-tuning proportional derivative (PD) controller based on fuzzy logic for significant reduction of selective current harmonics in interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drive systems under silicon carbide (SiC) inverter excitation, where the ultimate goal is to mitigate the IPMSM copper loss and SiC inverter loss in the motor drive systems for electric vehicles (EVs) and mobile robots. In the proposed control scheme, a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is newly designed to automatically adjust the coefficients of the PD controller according to the operating conditions of the motor system. With the unique design of two inputs and related membership functions based on absolute values in the FLC, the number of its fuzzy association rules is remarkably decreased in order to achieve good control performance with a less computational burden in real-time implementation. The measured results obtained with an experimental SiC-based IPMSM drive system under a high carrier frequency of 200 kHz in load condition are shown and discussed to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the introduced PD-fuzzy control. Furthermore, this model-free PD-fuzzy control scheme can be appropriately applied for other motor drives utilized in various fields.

Quantum-Train is an innovative approach that leverages quantum machine learning (QML) to train classical neural network (NN) models, offering significant parameter reduction on a polylogarithmic scale, eliminating data encoding issues, and enabling inference on purely classical computers. We introduce the Quantum-Train Toolkit, which consolidates the source code from various studies on the Quantum-Train framework. This includes image classification on MNIST, FashionMNIST, and CIFAR-10 datasets using convolutional neural networks, reinforcement learning with policy networks in Cartpole-v1 and MiniGrid environments, and Long Short-Term Memory models for flood prediction. The Quantum-Train Toolkit simplifies the execution of PyTorch multilayer perceptron models using Quantum-Train and provides guidance for adapting more complex architectures into the Quantum-Train format.
