AES-CCM (Advanced Encryption Standard-Counter with CBC-MAC) is an encryption and decryption method that guarantees the integrity and authenticity of data, commonly used for wireless security systems. The AES Core performs the central functions for encryption and decryption of the AES-CCM, so many studies are being conducted to implement it efficiently. In this paper, to investigate the impact of the hardware-software partitioning of the AES-CCM implementation for Bluetooth LE (Low Energy), we compare the results between the software-only implementation and hardware-software co-design approach where the AES encryption into the hardware and the rest into the software. As a result, a well-balanced co-design implementation of the AES-CCM shows a reduced latency of up to 77.4% compared to the software-only implementation for the Bluetooth LE system.

Following the market trend, fast and strict verification of hardware architecture is essential for saving cost and time of production. Recently, Verilator, an open-source Verilog simulator, is widely used due to its fast simulation time as well as easy-to-use property. In this paper, we present a fast verification methodology for BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) MAC (Medium Access Control) hardware based on Verilator. Since C++-based modeling can be easily integrated into the Verilog-based hardware platform with Verilator, complex verification scenarios with various parameter configurations can be supported. Compared to the commercial Verilog simulator, our verification platform shows up to 5.94 times of improvement in terms of simulation time.

Score-based generative models can effectively learn the distribution of data by estimating the gradient of the distribution. Due to the multi-step denoising characteristic, researchers have recently considered combining score-based generative models with the gradient boosting algorithm, a multi-step supervised learning algorithm, to solve supervised learning tasks. However, existing generative model algorithms are often limited by the stochastic nature of the models and the long inference time, impacting prediction performances. Therefore, we propose a Supervised Score-based Model (SSM), which can be viewed as a gradient boosting algorithm combining score matching. We provide a theoretical analysis of learning and sampling for SSM to balance inference time and prediction accuracy. Via the ablation experiment in selected examples, we demonstrate the outstanding performances of the proposed techniques. Additionally, we compare our model with other probabilistic models, including Natural Gradient Boosting (NGboost), Classification and Regression Diffusion Models (CARD), Diffusion Boosted Trees (DBT), and non-probabilistic gradient boosting models. Since precise self-position estimation is required for autonomous flight of aerial robots, there has been some studies on self-position estimation of indoor aerial robots. In this study, we tackle the self-position estimation problem by mounting a small downward-facing camera on the chassis of an aerial robot. We obtain robot position by sensing the features on the indoor *** this work, we used the vertex points(tile corners) where four tiles on a typical tiled floor connected, as an existing feature of the floor. Furthermore, a small lightweight microcontroller is mounted on the robot to perform image processing for the onboard camera. A lightweight image processing algorithm is developed. So, the real-time image processing could be performed by the microcontroller alone which leads to conduct on-board real time tile corner detection. Furthermore, same microcontroller performs control value calculation for flight commanding. The flight commands are implemented based on the detected tile corner information. The above mentioned all devices are mounted on an actual machine, and the effectiveness of the system was investigated.

Transfer Learning for Keypoint Detection in Low-Resolution Thermal TUG Test Images

This study presents a novel approach to human keypoint detection in low-resolution thermal images using transfer learning techniques. We introduce the first application of the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test in thermal image computer vision, establishing a new paradigm for mobility assessment. Our method leverages a MobileNetV3-Small encoder and a ViTPose decoder, trained using a composite loss function that balances latent representation alignment and heatmap accuracy. The model was evaluated using the Object Keypoint Similarity (OKS) metric from the COCO Keypoint Detection Challenge. The proposed model achieves better performance with AP, AP50, and AP75 scores of 0.861, 0.942, and 0.887 respectively, outperforming traditional supervised learning approaches like Mask R-CNN and ViTPose-Base. Moreover, our model demonstrates superior computational efficiency in terms of parameter count and FLOPS. This research lays a solid foundation for future clinical applications of thermal imaging in mobility assessment and rehabilitation monitoring. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of single- and three-phase arcing faults in industrial and commercial power systems and provides a detailed procedure for the component design of a fast power electronics-based suppressor. This paper presents a dual-polarized dual-band and wideband multi-ring microstrip antenna (MR-MSA) fed by two L-probes with a cavity structure. The proposed antenna consists of two circular ring patches arranged at the top and middle layers of a triple-layered dielectric substrate and two L-probe placed orthogonally in the bottom layer with a large thickness for dual-polarized dual-band and wideband operation. In order to obtain stable gain characteristics against finite sizes of the dielectric substrate and the ground plane, a cavity structure which is composed of a square ring patch on the top layer and several vias connecting to the ground plane is introduced surrounding the radiating patches. The cavity structure is designed in a small size without affecting the dual-band and wideband performance of the MR-MSA by using the numerical simulation with ANSYS HFSS. The design frequencies of the MR-MSA are around 3.5 GHz and 4.75 GHz. The simulated results reveal that dual-band and wideband performance of 26% and 23% fractional bandwidths less than -10 dB reflection is observed. It is also confirmed by the simulation that stable gain characteristics against sizes of the substrate and the ground plane of the designed MR-MSA with the cavity structure are obtained in comparison with the same MR-MSA without the cavity structure. © 2021 IEEE.

Ensuring reliable communication can be incredibly challenging in emergencies due to the breakdown of conventional infrastructure. However, a promising solution is on the horizon: the integration of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) onto unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), known as UAV-RIS. This innovative approach holds the potential to offer agile and adaptable communication services during crises, overcoming the limitations of traditional systems. This paper establishes an innovative UAV-RIS system with an active RIS to enhance the uplink communication between ground devices (GDs) and the air base station (ABS). We present an advanced communication strategy utilizing deep reinforcement learning (DRL) for UAV-RIS-supported uplink communication in dynamic emergencies. This scheme is designed to optimize the energy efficiency of the UAV-RIS communication system while adhering to quality of service (QoS) constraints for all GDs. It achieves this by jointly optimizing the trajectory of the UAV-RIS and the phase of the active RIS, ensuring efficient and reliable communication in challenging environments. To optimize the performance of the system, we propose a hierarchical Proximal Policy Optimization (H-PPO) algorithm and the upper and lower layers of H-PPO optimize the trajectory and phase control, respectively. Simulation results demonstrate that our scheme can effectively learn the communication strategy to enhance the performance of dynamic emergency communication networks.

KeyMPs: One-Shot Vision-Language Guided Motion Generation by Sequencing DMPs for Occlusion-Rich Tasks

Dynamic Movement Primitives (DMPs) provide a flexible framework wherein smooth robotic motions are encoded into modular parameters. However, they face challenges in integrating multimodal inputs commonly used in robotics like vision and language into their framework. To fully maximize DMPs’ potential, enabling them to handle multimodal inputs is essential. In addition, we also aim to extend DMPs’ capability to handle object-focused tasks requiring one-shot complex motion generation, as observation occlusion could easily happen mid-execution in such tasks (e.g., knife occlusion in cake icing, hand occlusion in dough kneading, etc.). A promising approach is to leverage Vision-Language Models (VLMs), which process multimodal data and can grasp high-level concepts. However, they typically lack enough knowledge and capabilities to directly infer low-level motion details and instead only serve as a bridge between high-level instructions and low-level control. To address this limitation, we propose Keyword Labeled Primitive Selection and Keypoint Pairs Generation Guided Movement Primitives (KeyMPs), a framework that combines VLMs with sequencing of DMPs. KeyMPs use VLMs’ high-level reasoning capability to select a reference primitive through keyword labeled primitive selection and VLMs’ spatial awareness to generate spatial scaling parameters used for sequencing DMPs by generalizing the overall motion through keypoint pairs generation, which together enable one-shot vision-language guided motion generation that aligns with the intent expressed in the multimodal input. We validate our approach through an occlusion-rich manipulation task, specifically object cutting experiments in both simulated and real-world environments, demonstrating superior performance over other DMP-based methods that integrate VLMs support. Hierarchical B-frame Video Coding Using Two-Layer CANF without Motion Coding

Typical video compression systems consist of two main modules: motion coding and residual coding. This general architecture is adopted by classical coding schemes (such as international standards H.265 and H.266) and deep learning-based coding schemes. We propose a novel B-frame coding architecture based on two-layer Conditional Augmented Normalization Flows (CANF). It has the striking feature of not transmitting any motion information. Our proposed idea of video compression without motion coding offers a new direction for learned video coding. Our base layer is a low-resolution image compressor that replaces the full-resolution motion compressor. The low-resolution coded image is merged with the warped high-resolution images to generate a high-quality image as a conditioning signal for the enhancement-layer image coding in full resolution. One advantage of this architecture is significantly reduced computational complexity due to eliminating the motion information compressor. In addition, we adopt a skip-mode coding technique to reduce the transmitted latent samples. The rate-distortion performance of our scheme is slightly lower than that of the state-of-the-art learned B-frame coding scheme, B-CANF, but outperforms other learned B-frame coding schemes. However, compared to B-CANF, our scheme saves 45% of multiply–accumulate operations (MACs) for encoding and 27% of MACs for decoding. The code is available at https://***.
