This paper introduces ZETA, a new MATLAB library for Zonotope-based EsTimation and fAult diagnosis of discrete-time systems. It features user-friendly implementations of set representations based on zonotopes, namely zonotopes, constrained zonotopes, and line zonotopes, in addition to a basic implementation of interval arithmetic. This library has capabilities starting from the basic set operations with these sets, including propagations through nonlinear functions using various approximation methods. The features of ZETA allow for reachability analysis and state estimation of discrete-time linear, nonlinear, and descriptor systems, in addition to active fault diagnosis of linear systems. Efficient order reduction methods are also implemented for the respective set representations. Deep learning (DL) has significantly advanced various industries, including semiconductors, by providing sophisticated methods for analyzing emerging device data. Transfer learning (TL), a prominent DL topology, leverages knowledge from a pre-trained model to improve the performance of a specific target task. This study aims to apply TL to predict the impact of work function fluctuation (WKF) on the variability of threshold voltage (σVTH) in gate-all-around silicon nanosheet field-effect transistors (GAA Si NS FETs). We used TL to transfer knowledge from models trained on 1-channel (1ch) GAA Si NS FETs to more complex 4-channel (4ch) counterparts. The prediction accuracy is evaluated by using the mean square error(MSE), root mean square error (RMSE), and the mean absolute error(MAE) metrics. Our TL approach achieved an error rate of less than 1%, demonstrating high accuracy in predicting WKF effects on σ VTH of 4ch GAA Si NS FETs using only 500 samples. This study presents a pioneering application of TL using a one-dimensional (1D) convolutional neural network (CNN) long short-term memory (LSTM) topology in semiconductor device technology. The results effectively address the challenge of predicting σ VTH variations in advanced GAA Si NS FETs because of WKF, which eliminates the need for extensive semiconductor device simulations. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

The accumulation lipid from oleaginous microorganisms is recognized as a second generation fuel. Biooil is known to as intracellular product of oily yeast utilizing various carbon substrates and converting different quantities of lipids in the form of triacylglycerols. This second generation fuel can be used to make biodiesel via a transesterification process. This study investigated the morphological characteristics of eight strains of Thai oleaginous yeasts via microscopy and analyzed the fatty acid profiling of yeasts cultured in three carbon sources: glucose, sugar cane molasses and crude glycerol in order to estimate biodiesel properties. To approach this goal, batch fermentations were used to culture eight yeast strains, Rhodosporidium toruloides TISTR 5123, TISTR 5154, TISTR 5149, Yarrowia lipolytica TISTR 5054, TISTR 5151, TISTR 5621, Rhodotorula glutinis TISTR 5159 and Rhodotorula graminis TISTR 5124 for 96 h under 30°C at 250 rpm. Result revealed that eight yeast strains contained significant amounts of fatty acids and lipids and accumulated mainly palmitic acid (C16:0), stearic acid (C18:0), oleic acid (C 18:1) and linoleic acid (C18:2), and they are suitable for the production of biodiesel. Fatty acid productions and profiles indicated that these yeast strains can be potentially used as the triacylglycerols producers for biodiesel production. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

The Brazilian electrical system is undergoing many changes due to the exponential growth of photovoltaic systems connected to the grid (PV). This increase may affect power quality parameters, such as reduction of power factor and increase of voltage levels. This work aims to model and simulate a low voltage distribution network with high levels of integration of PV systems in order to verify how the voltage and reactive parameters behave in these cases. It was used new load curve models, the Monte Carlo method and the OpenDSS software. © 2019 IEEE.

This work discusses the implementation and experimentation of a control system designed to guide a multi-robot formation of one aerial and three ground robots, in a trajectory tracking task. The implementation considers three partial formations of two robots, each one associated to a virtual structure, a straight line in the 3D space with its own formation controller. Two of the partial line formations are homogeneous formations of two ground vehicles, and the third one is a heterogeneous formation, involving a ground and an aerial vehicles. All the partial formations have the same reference for position, which is one of the ground vehicles. This also allows to discuss what would happen if this ground vehicle, the reference for all the line formations, and thus for the whole formation, presents a failure, what is considered here, in connection to an escorting mission. The result is that the designed control system is effectively able to accomplish the mission, even upon a failure of the reference robot, what is validated by experimental results also discussed here. © 2019 IEEE.

This work discusses a trajectory tracking task accomplished by a group of three Bebop 2 quadrotors working cooperatively to transport a load. Such unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are considered as a triangular formation, and the load, a triangle-shaped structure, is attached to them through massless flexible cables. The reason to use three quadrotors is the gain in terms of the payload capability and the stability of the load, since it is attached to three vehicles, staying vertically aligned with the center of mass of the triangle correspondent to the formation. A formation controller, actually a kinematic controller applied to a virtual massless robot correspondent to the center of mass of the triangle, is adopted, which generates reference velocities for the three UAVs, whose movement generates the movement and reshaping of the triangular formation. Then, individual dynamic compensators are adopted for each UAV, whose input is the reference velocity delivered by the formation controller. Finally, experimental results are discussed, which validate the proposal.

An in-house large eddy simulation tool is developed in order to reproduce high fidelity results of compressible jet flows. The large eddy simulation formulation is written using the finite difference approach, with an explicit time integration and using a second order spatial discretization. The energy equation is carefully discretized in order to model the energy equation of the filtered Navier-Stokes formulation. Such numerical studies are very expensive and demand high performance computing. Message passage interface protocols are implemented into the code in order to perform parallel computations. The present work addresses the computational performance of the solver running on up to 400 processors in parallel. Different mesh configurations, whose size varies from approximately 5.9 million points to approximately 1.0 billion points, are evaluate in the current paper. Speedup and efficiency curves are evaluated in order to assess the strong scalability of the solver. © 2023, CC BY.

Current design constraints have encouraged the studies of aeroacoustics fields around compressible jet flows. The present work addresses the numerical study of subgrid scale modeling for unsteady turbulent jet flows as a preliminary step for future aeroacoustic analyses of main engine rocket plumes. An in-house large eddy simulation (LES) tool is developed in order to reproduce high fidelity results of compressible jet flows. In the present study, perfectly expanded jets are considered because the authors want to emphasize the effects of the jet mixing phenomena. The large eddy simulation formulation is written using the finite difference approach, with an explicit time integration and using a second order spatial discretization. The energy equation is carefully discretized in order to model the energy equation of the filtered Navier-Stokes formulation. The classical Smagorinsky model, the dynamic Smagorinsky model and the Vreman models are the chosen subgrid scale closures for the present work. Numerical simulations of perfectly expanded jets are performed and compared with the literature in order to validate and compare the performance of each subgrid closure in the solver. © 2023, CC BY.

Observation of Temporal Reflections and Broadband Frequency Translations at Photonic Time-Interfaces

Time-reflection is a uniform inversion of the temporal evolution of a signal, which arises when an abrupt change in the properties of the host material occurs uniformly in space.1-3 At such a time-interface, a portion of the input signal is time-reversed, and its frequency spectrum is homogeneously translated while its momentum is conserved, forming the temporal counterpart of a spatial interface. Combinations of time-interfaces, forming time-metamaterials and Floquet matter4, exploit the interference of multiple time-reflections for extreme wave manipulation, leveraging time as a new degree of freedom5. Here, we report the observation of photonic time-reflection and associated broadband frequency translation in a switched transmission-line metamaterial whose effective capacitance is homogeneously and abruptly changed via a synchronized array of switches. A pair of temporal interfaces are combined to demonstrate time-reflection-induced wave interference, realizing the temporal counterpart of a Fabry-Perot cavity6. Our results establish the foundational building blocks to realize time-metamaterials and Floquet photonic crystals, with opportunities for extreme photon manipulation in space and time7-8 © 2022, CC BY.
