This paper presents a modified Vivaldi antipodal antenna using air-filled RSIW technology for UWB applications. The structure has a triangular slot edge, extending the bandwidth and increasing the gain. A prototype of the modified antenna was simulated and fabricated. The measured results show reasonable agreement with simulations, validating the design procedure. The proposed antenna offers a low-cost, easy-to-manufacture and compact solution. Additionally, improvements in performance were observed, including a 1 GHz increase in bandwidth and an additional 1.58 dB in gain, compared to the antenna using only the RSIW technology. © 2024 IEEE.

Versatile Video Coding (H.266/VVC) is the newest video coding standard jointly developed by the Joint Video Experts Team (JVET), which is organized by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). H.266/VVC provides about 40% bitrate reduction compared with High Efficiency Video Coding (H.265/HEVC) for the same visual quality. This paper introduces in detail the core structure of H.266/VVC by highlighting its features within block partitioning structure, intra/inter prediction, transform, quantization, and in-loop filtering, compared to its predecessor (H.265/HEVC). H.266/VVC yields significantly improved the coding performance, but it increased the computational complexity, particularly for the encoder side, which remains a problem to be tackled for successful commercialization in the future. This paper examined the statistical performance of H.266/VVC coding tools from the bitstreams encoded by the VVC test model (VTM12.0) encoder through rate-distortion optimization under the JVET common test conditions. In addition, the complexity and performance analyses are conducted on the block partitioning structure and group of picture structure. It is expected that an optimized H.266/VVC encoder can be designed and developed by minimizing the coding loss based on the analysis data. © 2023 Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers. This paper aims to analyze passenger needs for network connectivity on the ship during traveling at the shipping line of Indonesian XYZ Company. The current connectivity infrastructure on board is supported by VSAT technology, but limited only for the ship's crew. Meanwhile, the passengers have difficulty to connect mobile cellular services while sailing. Therefore, providing the service over such a connectivity to the passengers can be an added values for the XYZ Company. This study uses Kano Model of the 11 attributes, and collect a primary data from 138 passengers sailing at PQR ship. It results recommendations portraying the passenger's need for shipping telecommunications during the sailing trip. © 2021 IEEE.

Recently, volumetric video coding based on neural radiance fields has gained significant attention for storing and transmitting three-dimensional (3D) scenes captured from multi-view video. Because the neural networks are trained to produce novel view synthesis of surrounding 3D scenes, compressing the model and then rendering the colors and geometry through the decompressed model can be utilized as a 3D video coding system. However, although this approach provides superior performance compared to conventional 3D video coding standards using depth video, challenges remain in reducing overall model sizes to improve coding efficiency. In this paper, we propose a novel dynamic volumetric video coding technique that employs a Group of Volume (GoV) to divide multi-view video sequences into smaller chunks, addressing complex temporal dynamics. Our method uses volumetric video features represented with 3D spatial and temporal tensor matrices and vectors and encodes them with the GoVs. The tensors are compressed by existing 2D video codec, allowing for fast rendering and easing deployment. Experimental results validate that our method not only reduces memory footprint but also maintains high-quality rendering as compared to state-of-the-art studies.

The design of electrical wheelchair controllers remains a challenge for the scientific community. In recent years, Polymer Optical Fiber (POF)-based sensors have been used for biomedical applications, however, the application of these types of sensors for the control of assistive devices has been little explored. For this reason, this work proposes the design and validation of a fuzzy logic controller that uses information from an array of POF-based sensors located in a pillow, which is used for wheelchair control in four directions (right, left, forward and stop) by using neck movements. The results allow concluding that the system is fast, accurate, and reliable. This work presents a contribution related to the design of assistive devices based on optical fiber sensors and focuses on people with upper- and lower-limb mobility restrictions. Future studies will address the evaluation of the system for people with disabilities.

The increasing development of Optical Fiber Sensors (OFS) and inertial sensors applied into the health area. The use of neck and/or head motion for people with physical impairments in their limbs allows achieving independence and improve their mobility. This paper addresses a gap based on the development of Human-Machine Interfaces by introducing Roborueda, a robust Graphical User Interface (GUI) designed to facilitate interaction of electric wheelchair users, with a primary focus on enhancing mobility and preventing future illnesses. The main objective of the system is to monitor the body posture and control the wheelchair using neck and head motion, through the GUI. The interface incorporates machine learning and fuzzy logic techniques and a robust communication system using the Python programming language. The GUI was developed using PyQt, and data exchange between Python libraries was facilitated through dataframes and multithreading. Furthermore, the classification model was loaded, while Wi-Fi communication employ sockets and User Datagram Protocol. The user-friendly GUI offers a range of functionalities, including the ability to adjust controllers, and gather system information, among others. The implementation of this interface marks a significant step towards integrating OFS, which is a contribution to the advancement of assistive technologies. To ensure the effectiveness and practicality of Roborueda, future work will focus on validating the system through extensive testing with wheelchair users, thereby obtaining valuable feedback and making further improvements. © 2023, The Authors.
