Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication can considerably improve the efficiency and safety of autonomous driving and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADASs). However, V2X communication can be considerably degraded in the presence of cyberattacks, such as radio jamming. Traditionally, beamforming techniques can be applied to increase the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR). This paper evaluates broadband beamforming in the mmWave spectrum against radio jamming in V2X communication. The exploitation of the mm Wave spectrum in 5G-V2X communication has a natural advantage against radio jamming. First, attenuation is stronger in the mmWave spectrum in the range of 40 GHz or higher than in the traditional 5.9 GHz. Second, to generate broadband radio jamming, the radio jammer requires much more complex hardware and energy consumption. Third, by using broadband beamforming, broadband radio jamming can be considerably attenuated, limiting the degradation of the spectrum by the radio jamming. According to our numerical results, gains of close to 30 dB SINR can be achieved. We propose a broad-band beamforming technique based on the canonical polyadic decomposition via generalized eigenvalue decomposition (CPD-GEVD). The CPD-GEVD broadband beamforming outperforms state-of-the-art beamforming algorithms in most V2X scenarios presented in this paper.

The way 5G operators manage infrastructure, enterprise and customers will be radically different compared to preceding generations. This paper aims to provide new perspectives on the 5G operating model by presenting a visual guide on how mobile network operators should deliver value to their prospective 5G customers. The model presented enriches the eTOM framework by elaborating on the implications of virtual network operations, the consequences of an mmWave band, the value of the non-human customer, the security concerns, the role of the content provider in a new ecosystem, and the anticipation of the next generation technological platform. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. This paper aims to identify what new features need to be improved in the IoT services implemented in the Jakarta Smart City platform. We use sequential steps to construct the Kano Model and first define 10 attributes representing features as recommended improvements for the future IoT. The relevant survey was conducted among institutional users of the IoT services under the platform of the Jakarta Smart City. The findings show that 2 attributes fall into the category of Must Be, which are strongly expected by the users. These are the features that improve working productivity and efficiency and those that guarantee security and privacy. The rest of the attributes fall into the category of Indifferent, which users do not consider as significantly affecting their satisfaction in the future. © 2020 IEEE.

Before implementing 5G technology, each operator first needs to know their existing network capability. The operator's network must be able to meet the stringent 5G network requirements, including a very low latency, especially for the URLLC (Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication) scenario. This scenario requires 1 ms latency for applications to run smoothly. In this paper, we use a case study from one of the operators in Indonesia to obtain measurements of the network, evaluate it, and then develop strategic steps that will allow the operator to determine whether the network can implement 5G URLLC. A correlation is observed between the latency and the distance from the site to the data center in the operator's network in Indonesia. The maximum site to data center distance to achieve 1 ms latency is 21.4 km using the existing 4G network infrastructure. We also discuss the optimum design for a new data center location and an efficient schema for building new 5G infrastructure. © 2020 IEEE.

Monitoring the vibration of industrial engines is essential for running diagnostics that can detect faults and point out the feasibility of predictive maintenance. Therefore, this paper describes an optical accelerometer based on a fiber Bragg grating to monitor the vibration of the gearbox of an industrial engine prototype. Experimental tests were performed varying the motor's rotation speed during normal operation. To validate the proposed system, two electronic accelerometers were attached to the motor's gearbox and bearing. The natural frequency response of the optical accelerometer was simulated and good agreement with the experimental results was obtained (0.83% of error). The proposed sensor was able to correctly identify the operation speeds of 20, 25, 35, 40, 45 and 50 rps with a maximum error of 0.05%. The mean signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the optical accelerometer was 64.05% higher than the SNR of one of the electronic solutions. The experimental results show that the vibration signals have different characteristics when measured at the bearings and at the gearbox, indicating the feasibility of multi-signals analysis for fault detection. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper aims to show how to improve the accuracy of formant frequency estimation in the singing voice of sopranos. Conventional methods of formant frequency estimation may not accurately capture the formant frequencies of the singing voice, particularly in the higher registers of sopranos, where the lowest formants are biased by the pitch harmonics. To address this issue, the study proposes adapting the Weighted Linear Prediction with Attenuated Main Excitation (WLP-AME) method for formant frequency estimation. Specific methods for glottal closure instant estimation were required due to differences in glottal closure patterns between speech and singing. The study evaluates the accuracy of the proposed method by comparing its performance with the LPC method through different vowel series arranged in ascending pitches. The results indicated that the adapted WLP-AME method consistently outperformed the LPC method in estimating formant frequencies of vowels sung by sopranos. In addition, by estimating the formant frequencies of a synthetic /i/ vowel sung by a soprano singer at the musical note E5, the study showed that the adapted WLP-AME method provided formant frequency values closer to the correct values than those estimated by the LPC method. In general, these results suggest parameter values of AME function that optimize its performance, which can have applications in fields such as music, singing and medicine. © 2023, The Authors. This work presents the development of a methodology that allows accurate impedance matching estimation of a Yagi-Uda antenna using a Multilayer Perceptron artificial neural network. Additionally, results of dimensions that minimize the reflection coefficient are presented. These dimensions were defined using the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithms multi-objective optimization algorithm. The ANSYS HFSS simulation software is utilized to generate the artificial neural network database and also to validate the proposed methodology.

In this paper, a thin microwave electromagnetic absorber based on a high-impedance surface is proposed in order to serve as a ground plane for a square patch ISM microstrip antenna. While the bottom layer is fully grounded, preventing any transmission of waves, the top layer is made of periodic, metallic double square rings that reflect waves within the two antenna working bands. Simulations yield scattering parameters, which are then used to obtain the absorptivity, permittivity and permeability of the absorbing structure. In the best scenario tested, the absorber is capable of reducing the radar cross section of the antenna by more than 10 dB in both its bands, namely 12.3 dB at 2.45 GHz and 16.2 dB at 5.65 GHz.

With the technological advances using electronic circuits based on microprocessors, the drive and control of electrical machines in electromechanical systems have become increasingly efficient. In this paper, for an axial magnetic flux reluctance motor, for which it is not possible to supply its energy directly from the utility, the developing of an electronic drive and its control is described. Unlike other alternatives, a development module, named DSC (Digital Signal Controller), which is based on a modern microcontroller, allows the reduction of discrete components, like operational amplifiers, and wires. The workbench comprises a three-phase power converter that is equipped with high-speed semiconductor switches, current sensors, voltage sensors and an USB interface to allow communication with a computer. The effectiveness of this approach is verified through open loop and closed loop experimental tests, where the waveforms of the trigger pulses generated by the DSC, the motor currents and their speed were monitored. © 2019 IEEE.

Chronic wounds affect around 2% of the world population with an annual multi-billion dollar cost to the healthcare system. This background pushes the development of new therapies and procedures for wound healing and its assessment. Among them, the potential of hydrogen(pH) assessment is an important indicator of the wound healing stage and condition. This paper presents the development of the first optical fiber-embedded smart wound dressing for pH assessment. An intrinsically pH-sensitive optical fiber is fabricated using a polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) precursor doped with rhodamine B dye. Raman and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopies are performed in order to verify the presence of rhodamine B and PDMS in the fiber samples. Then, the fiber is embedded in gauze fabric and hydrocolloid wound dressing. In addition, such low Young’s modulus of PDMS fiber enables its use as a highly sensitive pressure sensor, where the results show that the fiber-embedded bandage can measure pressures as low as 0.1 kPa with a high linearity in the range of 0 to 0.3 kPa. The smart bandage is subjected to different pH, which resulted in a wavelength shift of 0.67 nm/pH when the absorption peak at 515 nm was analyzed. Furthermore, pH increase leads to linear decrease of the transmitted optical power(R2 of 0.998), with rise and fall times below 20 s and 30 s, respectively. Therefore, the proposed optical fiber-embedded smart bandage enables the simultaneous assessment of pressure and pH on the wound region.
