Development of teaching materials for improving motivation to learn electromagnetics using ict

In this research, we have been developed teaching materials for electromagnetics that demonstrate theories using real-world actual applications (capacitors, coils, piezoelectric elements, Wireless Power Transfer(WPT), WiFi, direct-current motor, etc.) presented as animations and video data via Web services. Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and JavaScript were used to create the Web services for teaching materials. Recently, the lack of academic ability of Japanese engineering course students has become a large social problem at Japanese higher education. In particular, in the field of electrical engineering education, the visualization and mathematical abilities of students have been declining remarkably. In addition, today's teaching materials for educational institutions in Japan tend to reply primarily on rote learning. However, we consider that rote learning is not the primary method for university education. We tested our new developed materials on students learning motivation of electromagnetics and evaluated their effectiveness with some questionnaires. It was clear that the new teaching method has effectiveness for increasing learning motivation of Electromagnetics. © 2020 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Phenylalanine is an aromatic essential amino acid that exhibits the tendency to self-aggregate into fibrillar structures in its enantiomerically pure form. This observation was indicated as the underlying mechanism of phenylketonuria, which is a genetic condition associated with various neurological, physical, and developmental issues, characterized with phenylalanine buildup in the brain. The presence of D-phenylalanine was demonstrated previously to inhibit the formation of fibrils by L-phenlyalanine, indicating its potential use in phenylketonuria treatment. In this study, several combinations of D and L-phenylalanine were examined with the help of state-of-the-art deep learning methods for their fibril forming capacity, demonstrating the usefulness and accuracy of deep learning methods in distinguishing between different self-assembled structures. © 2023, The Authors. This paper proposes augmenting the traditional quadratic event-triggered conditions for Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy models, by also considering triggering conditions defined by a variation of the membership function values. Suitable Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) conditions are presented that make full use of the proposed modified triggering conditions to co-design the control law and triggering conditions. Under some mild assumptions, the closed loop system is guaranteed to avoid the Zeno behavior for its triggering instants. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the proposed conditions.

Realizations of fully implantable cochlear implants (FICIs) for providing adequate solution to esthetic concerns and frequent battery replacement have lacked of addressing system level criteria as a complete device. Here, we present a full-custom FICI that considers design of both an implantable sensor for wide range sound sensing and a signal conditioning circuit for electrical stimulation of the auditory nerve. The microelectromechanical system (MEMS)-based acoustic sensor utilizes multiple cantilever beam structures to sense and filter the mechanical vibrations on the ossicular chain. The area optimized bilayer design of the piezoelectric sensor met with the volume limitation in the middle ear while achieving high signal-to-noise-ratio. The sensor outputs are processed by a current mode low-power signal conditioning circuit that stimulates the auditory neurons through intracochlear electrodes. The FICI is validated with an in vivo model where the electrical auditory brainstem response (eABR) of the animal was observed while applying sound excitation. The eABR results demonstrate that the system is able to evoke responses in the auditory nerves of a guinea pig for sound range of 45–100 dB SPL within the selected frequency bands. © The Author(s) 2024.

Fluid-attenuated inversion recovery imaging (FLAIR) is a magnetic resonance (MR) method that is frequently utilized to diagnose brain lesions. However, it usually provides transverse section imaging in high resolution but with very low resolution in the other axis. This non-isotropy huddles its wide utilization in research including machine learning. In this study, we applied a deep-learning based super resolution (SR) technique to convert non-isotropic FLAIR images into isotropic one. We proposed a multi-input 3D ResUnet that uses both FLAIR and T1-weighted MR images as its inputs. As a result, our proposed model successfully reconstructed isotropic FLAIR images (SSIM: 0.9947 $\pm 0.0009)$ , and out-performed the FLAIR only single-input 3D ResUnet.

This paper proposes a discrete-time Model Reference Adaptive Controller (MRAC), applied to a Half-Bridge synchronous buck converter for charging batteries. The system uses an LCL filter that interfaces the power converter and the batteries. A virtual plant method is proposed for better transitory response of the adaptive control system. The model reference utilizes a reduced order, to simplify the project of the adaptive controller. Simulation results are presented for validation of the control project.

Typical video compression systems consist of two main modules: motion coding and residual coding. This general architecture is adopted by classical coding schemes (such as international standards H.265 and H.266) and deep learning-based coding schemes. We propose a novel B-frame coding architecture based on two-layer Conditional Augmented Normalization Flows (CANF). It has the striking feature of not transmitting any motion information. Our proposed idea of video compression without motion coding offers a new direction for learned video coding. Our base layer is a low-resolution image compressor that replaces the full-resolution motion compressor. The low-resolution coded image is merged with the warped high-resolution images to generate a high-quality image as a conditioning signal for the enhancement-layer image coding in full resolution. One advantage of this architecture is significantly reduced computational complexity due to eliminating the motion information compressor. In addition, we adopt a skip-mode coding technique to reduce the transmitted latent samples. The rate-distortion performance of our scheme is slightly lower than that of the state-of-the-art learned B-frame coding scheme, B-CANF, but outperforms other learned B-frame coding schemes. However, compared to B-CANF, our scheme saves 45% of multiply-accumulate operations (MACs) for encoding and 27% of MACs for decoding. The code is available at https://***.

Research on PHM(Predictive Health Management) for detecting or predicting abnormalities in semiconductors and factory equipment and processes typically focuses on improving accuracy and reducing model size. However, in actual factory settings, on-site personnel not only need to accurately detect and predict abnormalities in processes and equipment but also require an understanding of how to handle the encountered abnormal problems when they occur. This study proposes Industrial Semiconductor GPT technology, which embeds relevant professional technical documents of process equipment into a vector database and generates possible professional questions and answers. When on-site personnel inquire, a natural language processing algorithm is used to compare the generated answers with actual answers. Furthermore, this study verifies the collected expert data through prompting engineering, resulting in an approximately $9.39 \%$ increase in similarity, ensuring that factory personnel can obtain accurate and helpful answers when facing abnormal situations.

This paper deals with the problem of sampled-data gain-scheduling control design for affine quasi-LPV systems. As the control implementation is based on sample-data and its update occurs only at specific sampling instants, the state-dependent scheduling functions of the controller are piecewise continuous. This characteristic causes a mismatch between the system model and the controller parameters, namely asynchronous scheduling functions of the controller with respect to the plant during the inter-sampling behavior. To cope with this phenomenon, a polytopic description of the inter-sampling is constructed based on bounding assumptions on the scheduling functions and their time derivatives. Then, regarding a time-delay approach, a constructive and numerically implementable LMI-based synthesis condition is derived, and a convex procedure is proposed for enlarging the estimate of the region of attraction of the origin of the closed-loop system. The time-derivative bounds of the scheduling functions are explicitly accounted into the local analysis to ensure the method’s implementation. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the proposed methodology.
