In this study, development of a wafer level, void free TSV fabrication process flow and feasibility study of TSV integration to MEMS piezoelectric resonator devices have been presented. TSV structures with 100 μm diameter and 350 μm depth were copper filled with via sealing and bottom-up electroplating process which is a two-step technique. Four-point Kelvin measurements showed 0.8 mΩ TSV resistance on fabricated TSVs. Furthermore, TSV frames were epoxy bonded to MEMS acoustic transducers, which showed 90% to the resonator signal from the TSV.

Planning on discrete event systems using parallelism maximization

This work aims to present solutions for a production planning problem in Discrete Event Systems. The application of Supervisory Control Theory limits the search universe to safe production sequences, so it makes sense to use the supervisor structure, which defines the closed loop behavior, to determine the best sequences. Two efficient solutions to the problem are proposed, and both seek to maximize the parallelism as a way to minimize the makespan. Note to Practitioners-Planning plays an important role in manufacturing systems, but is also a time consuming task. This paper presents simple and fast algorithms to plan the production of manufacturing systems modeled as Discrete Event Systems (DES) maximizing parallelism instead o minimizing the production time (makespan). The idea behind these algorithms is that, reducing the number of idle equipment we increase productivity, given we are maximizing the used resources. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Technological developments in the current era make use of various media for learning. Learning media can facilitate and support practical activities to improve skills, one of which is by using video tutorial media because the video tutorials show the natural form of real objects to follow the instructions easily. This initial research aims to determine the need to develop video tutorial media used by teachers and students in the learning process to assemble computers at the Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta vocational high school. This study used a descriptive-qualitative method by conducting interviews with one teacher and distributing needs analysis questionnaires to 30 students of class X TKJ as research subjects. The results obtained from the statement questionnaire given to students, 93% agreed to develop a video tutorial to facilitate understanding of the material to assemble a computer used for independent or group study wherever and whenever. This research can be used as a criterion for developing instructional media for video tutorials following the material's characteristics for assembling computers.

We present a discrete implementation of generalized Harvey-Shack scalar scattering theory to calculate angular intensity distributions from height profiles of select randomly textured surfaces proposed for use in solar cells and covering a wide range of surface characteristics. We compare these calculations to high-resolution angular intensity distribution measurements. These comparisons suggest that the pupil function does benefit from an additional correction factor for rough surfaces containing lateral feature sizes on the order of the wavelength, which can be attributed to effective medium effects. Moreover, secondary interactions within the surface topography are shown to be a mechanism that partly redistributes scattered power, affecting angular intensity distribution results. These mechanisms emerge as the two main limitations of the Harvey-Shack scalar scattering theory in the far field, which nonetheless produces remarkable quantitative predictions.

This paper presents an analysis on searching the optimal values of the system identification and tracking window lengths, and regularization parameter for the online learning NARMA controller algorithm. Both window lengths and regularization parameter are generally determined with exhaustive searches by researchers. Although the estimation of plant and controller parameters plays the essential role in online learning control algorithms, using non-optimal values of the window lengths and regularization parameter may deteriorate badly the estimation and so the performance of the controller. In the paper, the effects of the window lengths and the regularization parameter on the tracking performance of the NARMA based online learning controller are analyzed with a search method. The considered NARMA based online learning control method is performed on a rotary inverted pendulum model. While the effect of the regularization parameter is examined in the batch mode, the effects of identification and tracking error window lengths are studied for the online mode of the controller learning algorithm. The developed search method can provide the optimum values of the plant identification and tracking horizon lengths, and regularization parameter when a sufficiently large class of possible input, output and reference signals are taken into account in the search. The presented study may be extended, as future research in the direction of developing intelligent control systems, by determining the horizon window lengths and regularization parameter, in an automatic way, with efficient learning algorithms.

JASMINE is a Japanese planned space mission that aims to reveal the formation history of our Galaxy and discover habitable exoEarths. For these objectives, the JASMINE satellite performs high-precision astrometric observations of the Galactic bulge and high-precision transit monitoring of M-dwarfs in the near-infrared (1.0—1.6 µm in wavelength). For feasibility studies, we develop an image simulation software named JASMINE-imagesim, which produces realistic observation images. This software takes into account various factors such as the optical point spread function (PSF), telescope jitter caused by the satellite’s attitude control error (ACE), detector flat patterns, exposure timing differences between detector pixels, and various noise factors. As an example, we report a simulation for the feasibility study of astrometric observations using JASMINE-imagesim. The simulation confirms that the required position measurement accuracy of 4 milliarcseconds for a single exposure of 12.5-mag objects is achievable if the telescope pointing jitter uniformly dilutes the PSF across all stars in the field of view. On the other hand, the simulation also demonstrates that the combination of realistic pointing jitter and exposure timing differences in the detector can significantly degrade accuracy and prevent achieving the requirement. This means that certain countermeasures against this issue must be developed. This result implies that this kind of simulation is important for mission planning and advanced developments to realize more realistic simulations help us to identify critical issues and also devise effective solutions. © 2024, CC BY.

This paper proposes an architecture for a planning optimization platform called the Grid of Grids Optimal Designer (GGOD) to facilitate the optimization of cluster type micro-grid installation and operation. Micro-grid clusters are groups of micro-grids with renewable energy that operate autonomously without power supply from main grids. The GGOD simulates micro-grid optimizations based on a service-oriented architecture and comprises three layers, i.e., end user, service broker, and service supply layers. The enduser layer corresponds to the client system, and the GGOD corresponds to the service broker and service supply layers. The service broker layer is for service management, and the service supply layer comprises various optimization components. Combinable optimization components are activated based on request text in extensible markup language format from end users. By combining optimization components, different optimizations are executed for a single request, the results of the same type of optimization methods are compared, and sudden operation environment changes are considered. Geospatial integrated resource planning and micro-grid facility planning are demonstrated as examples of GGOD applications.
