The importance of lightning has long been recognized from the point of view of climate-related phenomena. However, the detailed investigation of lightning on global scales is currently hindered by the incomplete and spatially uneven detection efficiency of ground-based global lightning detection networks and by the restricted spatio-temporal coverage of satellite observations. We are developing different methods for investigating global lightning activity based on Schumann resonance (SR) measurements. SRs are global electromagnetic resonances of the Earth-ionosphere cavity maintained by the vertical component of lightning. Since charge separation in thunderstorms is gravity-driven, charge is typically separated vertically in thunderclouds, so every lightning flash contributes to the measured SR field. This circumstance makes SR measurements very suitable for climate-related investigations. In this study, 19 days of global lightning activity in January 2019 are analyzed based on SR intensity records from 18 SR stations and the results are compared with independent lightning observations provided by ground-based (WWLLN, GLD360, and ENTLN) and satellite-based (GLM, LIS/OTD) global lightning detection. Daily average SR intensity records from different stations exhibit strong similarity in the investigated time interval. The inferred intensity of global lightning activity varies by a factor of 2–3 on the time scale of 3–5 days which we attribute to continental-scale temperature changes related to cold air outbreaks from polar regions. While our results demonstrate that the SR phenomenon is a powerful tool to investigate global lightning, it is also clear that currently available technology limits the detailed quantitative evaluation of lightning activity on continental scales. Computational technology is an important thing that needed in the whole of human life. Considering any factors in choosing the right and suitable high-performance computer resource due to our organization is a must. The existing high-performance computing forms are Supercomputer, Grid Computing, Cluster Computing, and Cloud Computing. Based on this work, the last form of high-performance computing, Cloud Computing is one of the most used forms thus we mitigate its advantages and disadvantages. Recently, to process this vast data, we must have a high-performance computer and to provide it, this is not a cheap resource.

This study designs a small arrayed Ultraviolet Light Emitting Diode (UV LED) curing system, using automatic electric power control circuit to drive 3 modules and 6 modules UV LED in wavelength of 365 nm and 385 nm, which is applicable to all sided adhesive material curing. The power output is controlled stably by the automatic electric power control circuit, so that the electric power is controlled stably, and the electric power is stable at ambient temperature10°C to 40°C, and the stable value is as high as 95%. © 2017 IEEE.

The influence of structural disorder on the thermal transport in the colusite Cu26V2Sn6S32 has been investigated by means of low-temperature thermal conductivity and specific heat measurements (2–300 K), Sn119 Mössbauer spectroscopy and temperature-dependent powder inelastic neutron scattering (INS). Variations in the high-temperature synthesis conditions act as a key parameter for tuning the degree of disorder in colusite compounds. Intriguingly, we find that all synthesized samples are disordered, the degree of which varies with the synthesis conditions used. Mössbauer data clearly evidence that Sn atoms do not solely occupy the 6c site of the crystal lattice but are present on possibly both the Cu and V sites, leading to a random distribution of these three cations within the unit cell. Increasing the disorder in these materials tends to lead to a smearing out of the main features in the phonon density of states measured by INS. Although the evolution of the inelastic signal upon warming is well described by a quasiharmonic approximation, elastic properties calculations indicate large average Grüneisen parameters, consistent with those determined experimentally from thermodynamic data. Increasing the level of disorder results in a decreased average Grüneisen parameter suggesting that the lowered lattice thermal conductivity is not driven by enhanced anharmonicity. These results provide experimental evidence to support that the remarkable changeover in the lattice thermal conductivity from crystalline to glasslike is solely driven by enhanced disorder accompanied by local lattice distortions.

An improved readout circuit interface for ion-sensitive field-effect transistor (ISFET) is proposed in this work. When compared with conventional topologies found on the literature, the proposed ISFET readout circuit presents at least two advantages. The first concerns the simplicity of the new circuity topology, and the second is the additional gain conferred to the sensor output signal. The performance of the proposed readout circuit integrated with the electrical ISFET model was investigated through BSIM3v3 simulations. The conventional ISFET readout topologies are found not to confer gain to the electrical ISFET output signal, and the sensor output signal has its limit predicted by the Nernst s model. Simulation results shows that the proposed ISFET readout circuit topology grants additional gain to the sensor output signal increasing its sensitivity up to three times the Nernst limit.

The Effects of Trajectory and Endpoint Errors in a Reaching Movement on the Sense of Agency

The sense of agency (SoA) refers to the subjective feeling that an individual can control their own action with their own will. However, it is still unclear which aspects of the motor control process precisely affect the sense of agency. In this study, we investigated how the SoA is modulated by the online motor performance (trajectory error) and the outcome of the reaching movement (endpoint error). The results showed that the invalid priming and the visual feedback delay significantly increased both the trajectory and endpoint errors and that these errors significantly attenuated the SoA. The further correlation analyses showed that the decrease in SoA was significantly correlated with the trajectory error, but not with the endpoint error, when the error was explicitly noticed. We suggest that the deterioration in online motor performance, at least in a reaching movement, is the main cause of the attenuation in the SoA.

Outdoor testing of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules must be carried out at different climates as PV power plants nowadays are installed and continues to be installed in many countries. Present study is outdoor testing results and analyses of 5 thin film modules in Ankara, Turkey. The analyses are carried out using monthly efficiencies of the modules that are derived using the energy yield and input. The average efficiencies of the CIS, CIGS and μc-Si/a-Si thin film modules are. We present the monthly and average efficiencies and discuss their variations with the parameter: input, ambient temperature and relative humidity. We also carried out seasonal analyses using Pearson's correlation coefficient and find out that the efficiencies are differently dependent on the above mentioned parameters. This arose a new open question on differentiation of the strength of the effect of each parameter on the monthly efficiencies. © 2017 IEEE.

Relaxation-based viscosity mapping for magnetic particle imaging

Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) has been shown to provide remarkable contrast for imaging applications such as angiography, stem cell tracking, and cancer imaging. Recently, there is growing interest in the functional imaging capabilities of MPI, where "color MPI" techniques have explored separating different nanoparticles, which could potentially be used to distinguish nanoparticles in different states or environments. Viscosity mapping is a promising functional imaging application for MPI, as increased viscosity levels in vivo have been associated with numerous diseases such as hypertension, atherosclerosis, and cancer. In this work, we propose a viscosity mapping technique for MPI through the estimation of the relaxation time constant of the nanoparticles. Importantly, the proposed time constant estimation scheme does not require any prior information regarding the nanoparticles. We validate this method with extensive experiments in an in-house magnetic particle spectroscopy (MPS) setup at four different frequencies (between 250 Hz and 10.8 kHz) and at three different field strengths (between 5 mT and 15 mT) for viscosities ranging between 0.89 mPa•s to 15.33 mPa•s. Our results demonstrate the viscosity mapping ability of MPI in the biologically relevant viscosity range. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

With the tremendous increase in the photovoltaic (PV) power plants world-wide remarkable decreases in their installation prices per watt are attained mainly due to economic scale effect. This brings questioning to increase their energy yields by considering any possible way like fabricating bifacial solar modules. Present study is on the performance analysis of a bifacial PV module using one-year outdoor testing results in Ankara-Turkey. The module performed very well and reached a specific yield value of 1750 kWh/kWp. This value for Central Anatolia region is well above the values predicted (and suggested) by the local authorities. The efficiency and performance ratio variation with respect to ambient and module temperature are obtained. The calculated dependence of efficiency on the module temperature is found to be η=-0.073Tmod+18.05, and the maximum measured module temperature is about 70 °C. The results show that the bifacial modules have the potential to replace the mono facial modules that are now dominating the PV market. © 2017 IEEE.
