Research on Capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers (CMUT), which is MEMS-based new transducer technology compared to piezoelectric in ultrasound applications, has recently increased. It is an important fact that micro and nano technologies provide convenience in many areas. CMUT technology has many advantages, such as its small size, the ease of integration with electronic materials and its compatibility with 2-dimensional geometries. In this study, the effect of different membrane material properties on displacement and output pressure of the CMUT membrane was investigated by assuming that it works in CMUT transmission mode and in the water media. SiC, Si, diamond, Si3N4, and polysilicon were used as membrane material. The membrane radius and thickness were selected as 60 μm and 2.6 μm, respectively. Collapse voltage and impedance values were calculated according to the structural properties of these materials. In addition, the mechanical structure of CMUT was taken into consideration and modeling was performed. Using this model created in the SIMULINK, the displacement and output pressure of CMUT membrane under various DC and AC voltages were analyzed. Under the same DC voltage, silicon membrane had the highest displacement and diamond membrane had the lowest displacement. Square shape wave was used as the AC excitation signal because the square wave was more efficient than the others. Some properties of the AC signal were changed and their effects were investigated. The most suitable material and working environment were tried to be found. Moreover, Si3Ni4 membrane behavior also investigated under different electric field to understand effects of electrode size using same model in air. As a result, this study aims to contribute to efficient CMUT design and determination of optimum parameters and membrane material selection for various applications in the immersion and air. © 2019 IEEE.

This paper proposes a formulation to predict the propagation of a vertically polarized electromagnetic wave in the time domain using the Electric Field Integral Equation over an irregular terrain for a near grazing incidence. The results show good agreement when compared with the ones obtained from the Magnetic Field Integral Equation and the Uniform Theory of Diffraction, both in the time domain. © Institution of engineering and *** Rights Reserved.

Automated segmentation of different tissues on medical images is a crucial concept for medical image analysis. In this study, unsupervised image segmentation problem is generalized as a Mumford-Shah energy minimization problem, and several solution proposals for the problem are investigated. Ambrosio-Tortorelli approximation method is implemented, and the performance of the algorithm on magnetic resonance (MR) images of brain is evaluated. First image used in the experiments is chosen among the ones which contain an edema formation due to a brain tumor, and the second one belongs to a healthy subject on which gray matter/white matter segmentation is aimed. Acquired results are presented in visual, tabular and numerical forms. Results and performance are discussed and quantitatively evaluated. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

This paper deals with the load transportation problem by a tilt-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle. Most approaches address the subject by formulating the system dynamics from the UAV's point of view, with the load's behavior described with respect to it. Difficulties arise if control tasks are given for the load, since the suspended load coordinates do not appear explicitly in the mathematical formulation. A novel approach is proposed, based on the formulation of the system dynamics using position and orientation of the load as generalized coordinates. The equations of motion are developed in detail, yielding a highly coupled state-space representation. It is shown that linear techniques are sufficient for path tracking of the load at low accelerations, even when subject to external disturbances and incomplete, noisy information about the state vector is available. Simulation results are presented in order to validate the proposed approach. © 2016

In this work, a dynamic weighting-artificial neural network (DW-ANN) methodology is presented for quick and automated compact model (CM) generation. It takes advantage of both TCAD simulations for high accuracy and SPICE simulations for cost-effectiveness. This methodology is developed for gate-all-around (GAA) silicon (Si) nanosheet (NS) complementary field effect transistor (CFET), a potential candidate for future CMOS technology due to its innate properties. The critical process variation (PV) sources that severely degrade the CFET performance are estimated using DW-ANN. It reduces the computation cost and predicts the effects of PV sources with less than 1% error. Furthermore, a compact DW-ANN-based Verilog-A model has been developed that captures the dc as well as transient behavior accurately for circuit-level analysis. CFET-based circuits such as inverter, 6T-static random access memory (SRAM), and ring oscillator (RO) are characterized and implemented using DW-ANN-based CM. The overall average error of the model is reported as less than 2%. Therefore, the proposed device and circuit modeling approach provides a feasible solution for the rapid compact modeling of new emerging devices with good convergence and high accuracy. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Vibration analysis is crucial for predictive maintenance of bearing systems, aiming to reduce costs and prevent failures. This paper investigates signal processing techniques such as FFTs and Hilbert Transforms for fault diagnosis, alongside decision tree models, particularly the J48 algorithm within the WEKA environment, for fault classification. The study emphasizes the integration of signal processing and machine learning for effective fault diagnosis and maintenance. Notably, a classification model with low computational cost has been chosen, facilitating implementation in embedded systems. This model also offers interpretability of outputs, as it is based on decision trees of frequency components obtained through preprocessing. © 2024 IEEE.

Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are intricate mathematical models, drawing inspiration from the biological nervous system, and offering intelligence alongside nonparametric capabilities. The efficacy of ANNs heavily relies on their learning process. Heuristic search algorithms have been proposed in literature as reliable options for optimizing neural networks utilizing the Perceptron architecture. This paper presents an suboptimal neural network Perceptron training method employing the Whale Optimization Algorithm for the application of farming watering mobile robots. To achieve this, a fitness function based on system responses such as overshoot, settling Time, and steady-state Error was developed. The sub-optimal Perceptron controller was then implemented using MATLAB, CoppeliaSim software and the EVA robot, resulting in a 66.17% overshoot, a 4.7% steady-state error, and a settling time of 3.05 seconds. Moreover, the sub-optimal Perceptron controller was mapped onto a System on Chip FPGA AMD-Xilinx Zynq 7020, resulting in a hardware resources consumption of 1,870 (3.52%) Lookup table, 2 (0.9%) Digital Signal Processing blocks, 1,019 (0.96%) Flip-Flops and a power consumtion of 0.005 W. Finally, Hardware-in-The-Loop validation was performed using CoppeliaSim, Python, Universal Direct Memory Access, and the EVA robot. The results showed an overshoot of 94.83%, a settling time of 2 seconds, and a steady-state error of 4.5%. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a new 3D space modeling method for a SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) by using distance measurement information on the horizontal plane by a SOKUIKI sensor and a 360-degree panoramic image by an omnidirectional camera. The proposed method can suppress the measurement time and the amount of the measurement data in comparison with the conventional SLAM. We evaluate the proposed method by some measurement experiments. We show that it is possible to measure the size of simultaneous objects with a high degree of accuracy. © 2019 IEEE.
