This paper analyzes presidential speeches from the United States, delivered by the current president, Joe Biden, from his inauguration until April 3, 2024, using BERT-based topic modeling techniques. Since the role and actions of the United States affect global affairs, inferring latent topics from these speeches are important for making informed decisions and also useful to researchers. We provide experiments combining different embedding methods and clustering algorithms for dimensionality reduction. Our experiment results demonstrated that using DistilBERT embeddings followed by HDBSCAN clustering and UMAP dimensionality reduction consistently produced meaningful and interpretable topics, and this paper introduces the UMASS and NPMI metrics for evaluating topic coherence, with the best values of these metrics among the other schemes investigated. Some of the dominant themes conveyed in the American president’s state of the union speech that were successfully revealed in this study include international cooperation, alongside significant attention to environmental, community, health, and economic issues.

Depending on the bonding type, screen currents and screen voltages of high-voltage underground cables have critical importance in the distribution system. These parameters directly affecting energy efficiency and operational safety need to be calculated and evaluated during the system design. Especially in electric vehicle charging stations, energy storage facilities, solar power plants, oil and gas production facilities, and data centers, these parameters become even more critical because of operating with non-sinusoidal loading conditions. It is seen that studies evaluating the electrical performances of high-voltage cables depending on their harmonic loading conditions and ge-ometrical placement characteristics are limited in the literature. This study investigates the screen voltage, screen current, and loss performance of a high-voltage underground cable system consisting of two parallel circuits in different bonding types and layouts depending on the distance between the cables and the non-sinusoidal loading conditions. For this purpose, the cable system was modeled and analyzed in FEM software. In addition, the calculations performed with the finite element method were also verified by the IEC 60287-1-3 method. The study evaluated the performance of the high-voltage underground cable system for a distribution network and emphasized that these analyses should be carried out during the system design.

This study presents a more accurate evaluation method for assessing ankle spasticity compared to conventional goniometric techniques by utilizing measurements obtained from Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) and surface electromyography (sEMG) devices. Integrating IMU and EMG sensors provides substantial benefits for accurately determining the range of motion (ROM) associated with spasticity during targeted movements. In this study, the proposed method provides precise measurement and an objective evaluation of onset time detection of antagonistic muscle co-contraction, and accordingly the ROM of the actuated joint. Moreover, the implementation of cost-effective wearable sensors enables the monitoring of muscle spasticity in clinical environments and can be particularly valuable in regions with limited access to experienced therapists, providing a more efficient approach to tracking spasticity levels.
