Clustering is a typical unsupervised learning method for classifying unsupervised data. One of the clustering meth-ods, even-sized clustering based on optimization (ECBO), is a clustering algorithm that imposes a constraint to equalize the size of each cluster. ECBO has been suggested to be effective in delivery and other problems. However, it is limited to Euclidean space. On the other hand, spectral clustering with a wide range of applicability for partitioning graph data has been proposed. In this paper, we propose even-sized spectral clustering, which imposes a size-equal constraint on spectral clustering, and show that it is an extension of the graph partitioning problem. We also verify the validity of the results through numerical examples. © 2024 IEEE.

This article delves into the significance of urban digital twins in generating synthetic data specifically tailored for individuals with disabilities. It explores how this data can be effectively utilized to construct artificial intelligence (AI) models that promote inclusivity and enhance accessibility in urban environments. The article thoroughly examines the challenges and opportunities associated with acquiring data on individuals with disabilities, taking into account the ethical and practical implications of generating and utilizing synthetic data for the development of accessible and inclusive technologies. Using the city of Curitiba, Brazil as a case study, which has undergone scanning, digitization, and transformation into an urban digital twin, avatars have been strategically placed to enable the detection of individuals with disabilities within diverse scenarios and perspectives in urban environments. Consequently, this approach provides a diverse and realistic representation of the situations in which individuals with disabilities may find themselves in urban settings, contributing to advancements in urban planning and technology by emphasizing the importance of digital twins in generating synthetic data to promote inclusivity and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Zero-day attacks present a significant security threat to vehicular networks, exploiting vulnerabilities at both software and hardware levels within such systems that remain undiscovered. Mitigating these threats is essential to ensuring the safety and security of vehicular systems. Support Vector Machine (SVM) is a good candidate for anomaly detection of zero-day attacks within vehicular networks because it can handle highdimensional data and effectively distinguish between normal and abnormal patterns in complex and dynamic environments. A trained SVM on the normal operation data of in-vehicular network can identify flag deviations, thus making it effective in the detection of any previously unknown attack patterns, which is a common behaviour of zero-day attacks. In this paper, we introduce an anomaly detection method called "ZeroCAN"which models the behaviour of every single electronic control unit on the network with a separate SVM and a set of high-level features that capture the timing and data payload aspects of CANbus traffic. This approach achieves an anomaly detection rate of over 99% and a false positive rate below 0.01% during normal operation in most cases. © 2025 IEEE.

The need for mechanical components with superior strength and specific characteristics for application under severe conditions requires materials with satisfactory mechanical strength and wear resistance under elevated loads. Hardened steels present suitable properties for these applications, thus, manufacturing processes must be capable of dealing with these characteristics to produce high quality components. The aim of this work is to investigate the influence of the cutting conditions (cutting speed and feed) and cutting edge preparation (chamfer angle) of mixed alumina tools (Al2O3 + TiC) when turning hardened AISI 52100 bearing steel (62 HRC), with emphasis on the turning force components, machined surface finish and tool life. The results indicated that feed statistically affected all the evaluated parameters (increasing cutting, feed and passive forces and roughness), whereas cutting edge preparation affected only the feed force and surface roughness (lower feed force and roughness obtained using the tool with a chamfer 80 μm wide and angle of 30º). Regarding tool life, the commercial tool and the tool prepared with chamfer width of 80 μm and angle of 30º presented superior performance and allowed gradual tool wear evolution, in contrast with the other cutting edge preparations which led to edge fracture. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Protein requirements in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) during production and reproduction phases

The accelerated growth of global aquaculture has boosted the production chain of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), currently the third most cultivated species worldwide. This fish plays a crucial role in global food security. Protein is the main fish diet nutrient, and its quality, as well as protein level variations, directly and significantly affect the productive chain of this species. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive review of protein requirements at different tilapia development stages, underscoring the fundamental importance of a balanced diet to promote efficient growth. The study identified protein requirement variations based on weight, age, and different tilapia farming systems. In addition, the challenges associated with formulating balanced diets are discussed, especially in the face of the scarcity of traditional protein sources, such as fishmeal. Several factors are considered in this review, including tilapia development stage, rearing system, stocking density, ingredient quality, specific tilapia nutritional requirements and strains, feed management, temperature, and water quality. A gradual decrease in protein requirements is observed as fish grow and reach a minimum point during the growth phase, followed by a slight increase during the subsequent fattening phase. Tilapia protein requirements are influenced by various factors, including growth phase and farming system characteristics. Identifying the ideal protein levels at each stage is crucial for guiding sustainable tilapia aquaculture practices and enhancing the overall production efficiency of the species. © 2024 Shanghai Ocean University.

The increasing quest for therapeutic alternatives in treating non-communicable chronic diseases like obesity has propelled research into bioactive peptides, with a particular focus on milk due to its rich protein composition and associated health benefits. Milk fermentation, a traditional process in dairy production, enhances the bioactivity of peptides, broadening their potential therapeutic uses. This study investigated the anti-obesity potential of peptides from bovine milk fermented by Lacticaseibacillus casei LBC 237, identifying 143 peptides, notably LGPV and EVPMP. In silico analyses revealed that LGPV and EVPMP biopeptides exhibited significant interactions with target proteins, employing various molecular interactions such as Van der Waals forces, hydrogen bonds, and electrostatic interactions. These peptides shared common binding sites in some enzymes, suggesting a similar mode of interaction between molecule and target protein, akin to key pharmaceuticals recommended for treating these pathologies. Furthermore, amino acid characteristics present in the peptides, including hydrophobic residues like Leucine, Glutamate, Valine, and Proline, proved essential for their bioactive and inhibitory activities. These findings highlight the potential of LGPV and EVPMP biopeptides as therapeutic agents in managing obesity and metabolic disorders. They provide important insights into their mechanisms of action, paving the way for future research to apply them practically in preventing and treating metabolic conditions. © 2024 The Authors

Quantification methods for microRNAs (miRNAs) are attracting attention, because miRNAs provide a potential biomarker in liquid biopsy. In this research, we developed an electrical monitoring device of nucleic acid amplification that is simpler than the conventional PCR method, combining an isothermal amplification method and a thin-film Iridium/Iridium oxide (Ir/IrOx) electrode. The fabricated Ir/IrOx electrode showed ideal Nernstian response under the various pH buffer solutions. Moreover, we successfully real-time monitored three-way junction primer generation-rolling circle amplification (3WJ-PGRCA) at the 0.01, 0.1 pM, Negative Control of target miRNA based on fluorescence detection. The fabricated Ir/IrOx electrode would be a promising liquid biopsy platform by detecting released proton during amplification reaction at the constant reaction temperature. © 2024 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

This study addresses the Testing Facility Location with Constrained Queue Time Problem. This optimization problem focuses on determining the best places to deploy testing sites and their available testers for infectious diseases, while constraining the maximum time in the queue with a given probability. An integer programming model is introduced and applied to the three biggest counties, in terms of population, of Florida, United States. Moreover, the Monte Carlo method is used to evaluate the model’s output, aiming to check if the queueing time constraint is being satisfied. Through the experiments, a testing facility deployment plan can be determined for each county and further validated by the simulation. The results show that the solutions returned by the model behaved successfully when submitted to the Monte Carlo method, not exceeding the time in the queue in more than the predefined probability. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper a new variant of the widely used Rapidly exploring Random Tree (RRT∗) algorithm is proposed. The main goal of this variant is to improve the efficiency of the generated path, in both computation time and the quality of the path. In a previous work by the authors, an improved version RRT∗N was proposed, where a normal probability distribution was used to control the generation of the random nodes. The proposed variant utilizes an intelligent fuzzy logic system (FLS) to control the generation of the random nodes and commands the robot to the required target introducing an intelligent fuzzy adaptive RRT∗N path planning approach (FA-RRT∗N). The proposed approach not only reduced the time required about 29.5 % of the time required by the RRT∗, but also generally resulted in shorter path about 63% of the path generated by the traditional RRT∗. © 2023 IEEE.

Currently the process of lending tools in machining laboratories still uses the traditional method. it is considered inefficient and ineffective. Therefore, implementing a more modern tool lending system is one possible solution. In this study, the design and manufacture of a tool lending system was carried out by applying Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and a website-based information system. The purpose of this research is to simplify the process of lending tools and simplify the process of tracking and collecting data on tools borrowed by students. The method used in this study is the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method to determine the priority of the user's attribute requirements that will be used in the design and development of the system. System testing is carried out using the System Usability Scale (SUS) analysis. The result of this research was to produce a tool lending system called a tool tracking system that will completely automate the tool tracking procedure. This helps to better manage the fleet of tools efficiently. The system has been successfully developed and approved for use in machining laboratories at vocational education © 2023 IEEE.
