In this study, two deep learning models for automatic tattoo detection were analyzed;a modified Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and pre-trained ResNet-50 model. In order to achieve this, ResNet-50 uses transfer learning with fine-tuning. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and computational efficiency of the system being considered. To augment the dataset included 1000 photos that were equally divided between those showing tattoos and those that did not show tattoos. A k-fold cross-validation approach was employed in training and testing the models. Although custom CNNs are effective, utilizing pre-trained ones like ResNet-50 can offer even better outcomes. Specifically, ResNet-50 attained a higher accuracy (0.86 compared to 0.79), precision (0.85 versus 0.78), recall (0.91 against 0.86), and F1-score (0.91 vis-a-vis 0.86) as compared to custom CNNs. In selecting these models for examination, two main motivations were considered. The first motivation is to see whether transfer learning with a pre-trained ResNet-50 model does well when compared with a customized CNN designed specifically for tattoo detection. Secondly,the intent of this study is to know what advantages can be derived from each approach and their demerits too. Furthermore, it seeks to determine if transfer learning can provide an alternative in contrast to the common CNN techniques with regards to precision and computational efficiency. In this research, two models will be evaluated in order to answer the question of what is better for tattoo detection: transfer learning or designing custom architectures. © 2024 IEEE.

The recent renewed interest in amphibious seaplane operation has stimulated the research related to this class of airplane. In fact, modern techniques previously developed for conventional land planes are now being modified to suit the development of these aircraft. Even though computer simulation presently offers highly efficient design tools there is still the need for experimental testing. Modern development of micro electric motors and actuators, together with the development of compact power electronics have laid the conditions for the development of Subscale Flight Testing (SFT), a very efficient tool for the improvement of the aircraft modeling process. The present research addresses the problem of conceptual design of reduced scale f loatplanes. Takeoff performance, one of the most complex flight phases of an amphibious airplane, is considered a modeling process considerably more difficult than the corresponding conventional land estimation. A typical floatplane, now being designed by the authors, is used to illustrate this development. The dynamic scaling process is described, and the expected performance of a reduced scale is shown. The authors expect to use in the near future the acquired insight to carry their own SFT flight test, and also improve modeling also providing improvements applicable to computer simulation. © 2025, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. Recent advancements in spherical microphone array technology and binaural rendering methods enable plausible auralization of measured spatial sound fields over headphones with preservation of spatial auditory perceptions. This work applies these technologies toward the spatial enhancement of stereophonic music signals played back over headphones. Spatial room impulse responses (SRIRs) measured with a studio monitor and subwoofer were used to characterize the acoustics of a living room excited by a stereo sound system. An additional set of SRIRs was simulated to represent an anechoic condition. These SRIRs were combined and processed to form three different sound system representations at four different spatial resolutions to serve as spatial enhancement for three music excerpts. Binaurally rendered stimuli using these enhancement methods were perceptually evaluated in a subjective study based on how "natural" of a reproduction they produced. Reproductions using high spatial resolution with the measured SRIRs were rated as more natural than the lowest resolution used (monopole). However, spatial resolution was not found to have a significant effect on the naturalness of the simulated anechoic condition. The results also suggest that the musical style of an excerpt may affect its overall naturalness independently of the virtual sound system representations which were evaluated. © 2022 Proceedings of the International Congress on Acoustics. Drive Wave is a device that can help drivers communicate with other road users by displaying familiar words and icons as well as a speech to text feature that can make it easier for drivers to communicate with other road users. in this work, a system design prototype consisting of two devices, namely Remote and LED message board. The most spoken words used and icons displayed on the LED message board are controlled wireless using a Remote using the ESP-NOW protocol and Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth LE). The two ways of he LED message board controlled by the remote are manual and automatic speech to text converter system controlled the LED message board displayed. the manual way, the user pressed the button to choice the word to be displayed. in the automatic voiced control, the LED displayed the word uttered by the user. the automatic voiced controlled applied Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC) as feature extraction techniques and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) method for word identification methods. The results showed that the automatic voice controlled 99.78% and 100% for training and validating accuracy, respectively. the real testing result showed that 24 times testing which have 100% accuracy.

Industry-Academy Collaborative Research (IAC) in Software engineering is being applied and developed widely in practice. These collaborative, research practices help both academic and software industry environments. As a way of observing what is being developed in SE, the objective of this article is to present an exploratory and empirical study of IAC practices in the context of Agile Software Development (ASD), exploring and characterizing solutions and practices, the challenges encountered in the application of the IAC and in collaboration. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was carried out in the five main academic databases, and snowballing was applied, evaluating/analyzing 8.460 articles, totaling 21 articles approved following the proposed criteria. As a result of the data analysis, 76 good practices and 37 challenges in carrying out the IAC were described. As well, practical collaborative models for the application of the IAC were detailed. © 2022 IEEE Computer Society. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we consider a scheduling issue for parcel delivery and pickup services by a truck-drone last-mile delivery system. We are given a single carrier truck and multiple identical drones to serve a finite set of customers. The single carrier truck plays the role of a mobile depot for the drones, and it visits several stops in a given order of them. The given order of stops constitutes a fixed truck route, and the carrier truck is allowed to launch (resp., to retrieve) a drone to (resp., from) a customer at a stop. For each sortie of a drone, the launching stop and the retrieving stop must be the same. The load capacity of a drone is limited to one, and for a sortie of a drone at a stop, there are three options: (i) only deliver a parcel to a customer, (ii) only pick up a parcel from a customer, and (iii) deliver a parcel to a customer, and then pick up a parcel from a customer. The scheduling problem asks to find an assignment of customers to drones with sortie options and a choice of a truck stop for each sortie in the assignment. The objective is to minimize the total duration of the carrier truck over all the stops, which is equivalent to minimizing the makespan. In this paper, we first propose an extended integer program for the case with both delivery and pickup services from an existing one for the case with delivery service only. We also conduct numerical experiments to demonstrate the solution quality of the proposed integer program by utilizing an integer programming solver, and report the results. © 2024 IEEE.

Accurate anomaly classification in solar modules is crucial for efficient solar power system monitoring and maintenance. This study explores deep learning, specifically Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), for automated defect classification in thermal images. We employed transfer learning with pre-trained AlexNet and GoogleNet architectures, comparing static feature extraction and fine-tuning. Using a dataset of thermal images categorized as no anomaly, cracked, or soiled modules, the fully fine-tuned GoogleNet model achieved the highest classification accuracy 95.5%, outperforming AlexNet and traditional feature-based methods. GoogleNet's superior performance stems from its Inception modules, which learn more discriminative features by employing multiple convolutional filter sizes within the same layer, capturing complex thermal image patterns. Fine-tuning further boosts performance by adapting pre-trained knowledge to the specific task. These results demonstrate deep learning's potential for enhancing solar system maintenance reliability and efficiency. © 2025 IEEE.

For centuries, emergencies have been a recurring situation in cities. Natural or human-induced emergency situations can cause infrastructural damages in cities, potentially resulting in injuries, death, and economic losses. In this context, the use of Internet of Things technologies can support more efficient detection of emergencies such as floods, landslides, fire, and terrorism, being possible to alert people and trigger mitigation actions on time. Therefore, this work proposes an IoT platform for the development of sensors-based emergencies detection units, comprising a hardware architecture and a Real Time Operating System based firmware. By combining the concept of Soft Sensors with the parallelism of tasks on multi-core microcontrolers, as well as taking into consideration low-cost and energy efficient demands, it is expected an improvement in the development of such units in smart cities. © 2022 IEEE.

Solar-powered dryers are still expensive and difficult to obtain for farmers with medium to low production capacity. For this reason, it is necessary to develop technology on a solar-powered dryer with a solar panel capacity of 200WP is equipped with a maximum power point tracker as an integrated solar collector with a photovoltaic system. The system in this solar-powered dryer consists of a solar panel tracker, a rotating aluminum cylinder net, a photovoltaic tracker, a battery bank, a microcontroller, and a DC/AC inverter. This system improves the performance of solar panels in the drying process of Moringa leaves. This design is expect to be the right system to ensure maximum results by providing solar radiation energy in the drying process of agricultural products. The aims goal to minimize problems in the drying of agricultural products experienced by farmers using an automatic dual-energy solar-powered dryer as a development innovation for the drying process. This study uses an experimental methodology and field data collection using a solar-powered dryer that has been analyzed and measured to obtain data comparisons. shows the maximum data of voltage and power response in positioning photovoltaic to produce the increased output power of photovoltaic array. Maximum application of powerpoint tracker on microcontroller based dual energy solar powered dryer on solar panels for drying moringa leaves produces the advantage of maximum energy absorption in solar panels and shortens the time in the drying process of moringa leaves. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper presents a design to improve the robustness of visual SLAM(vSLAM). A processing step of feature-removal is added to the tracking thread of the conventional ORB-SLAM2 algorithm to improve the localization accuracy of a mobile robot in an environment with moving persons. Instance segmentation and motion tracking are intergrated to identify motion state of people in an image. ORB feature points belonging to moving persons are removed for further processing of the vSLAM pipeline. The advantage of this method is that the vSLAM can remove feature points of moving people, while retain those belonging to static people in the environment, which improves the accuracy of robot pose estimation. The improved ORB-SLAM2 algorithm has been implemented in a NVIDIA Xavier embedded system, which is integrated to a mobile robot. In practical robot navigation experiments, the average positioning error of the proposed method is within 4cm for 22.4m travel distance. Compared with conventional ORB-SLAM2, the average accuracy of our vSLAM method improves 97% in a dynamic environment with moving people. © 2023 IEEE.
