Equipment with high efficiency, high power density, reduced size and low cost are in demand in the automotive industry. This work presents a method to design and model a high power-density four-phase DC-DC Buck converter for an automotive application and using the components operating temperature as a design criteria. A parameter sweep is done to select the operating point of the DC-DC converter combined with an iterative method to select part numbers, where preference is given to components that are AEC-Qxxx qualified. The converter is modeled and power losses are computed in SPICE considering the parasitic elements present in the PCB and the dynamic characteristics and non-idealities of the electronic components;thermal modeling is performed using Ansys Icepak. The results indicate that the design meets all electrical and thermal requirements for an automotive application. An efficiency of 95.97% is obtained in a four-phase DC-DC Buck converter that supplies a total of 800 W to 4 loads, in a space of 43.77 cm3, that is, an estimated power density of 18.28 W/cm3. © 2022 IEEE.

Microgrids are an increasingly widespread approach to grid configuration that allow for more flexible integration of renewable energy into the power grid. For a microgrid to be able to operate in islanded mode, it must contain a minimum amount of grid-forming generators. While traditional synchronous machines are naturally grid-forming, most Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are inverter-based and, commonly, grid-following. This situation presents a challenge for distribution systems, which are expected to become increasingly reliant on distributed and renewable sources. Self-adaptive droop is a control technique for inverter-based systems (especially electric Energy Storage systems) which allows an energy source to smoothly transition between grid-connected and islanded operation modes. Much like traditional droop, this control algorithm has non-linear elements. This paper presents a small-signal model for a self-adaptive droop controlled inverter. Based on this small-signal model, a stability study is conducted in order to better select the droop control gains (Kip and Kiq) in accordance to the desired dynamic response. © 2023 IEEE.

Without any doubt, the Covid-19 pandemic would have a long and lasting impact globally economically. The pandemic would increase the Gini index, a measure of income inequality, remarkably. The previous pandemics due to H1N1 in 2009, Ebola in 2014, and Zika in 2016 increased the index by 1.5 points, according to the World-Bank report issued in 2020. The income gap that has constantly been growing would accelerate with the pandemic. Income inequality often leads to social unrest, lower economic growth, increased health cost, and a lower level of satisfaction. This research studies how a taxation strategy affects the Gini index. We use an agent-based model and the yardsale model, where a small number of agents is established in a closed simulation world. The simulation world has conversed in the total wealth and the number of agents. Each agent performs a wealth exchange of a small amount with other randomly selected agents for each time instant. The simulation results suggest a critical tax rate such that the wealth distribution and Gini index are sustainable. A tax rate lower than the compulsory rate leads to a continuous increase in the simulation time's income inequality trend. On the other side, a tax rate higher than the critical rate reduces the wealth distribution gap. We study various taxation rates and find a vital taxation rate to maintain the wealth distribution. If the tax rate is lower than the critical, the wealth distribution will become more expansive, and otherwise, a higher tax rate would shrink the wealth distribution. © 2021 IEEE.

This study aims to identify the factors influencing knowledge transfer within companies transitioning from the internal combustion engine (ICE) industry to the electric vehicle (EV) industry through an extensive literature review. In addition to summarizing findings and proposing strategies for utilizing artificial intelligence in knowledge transfer, our framework reveals the relevance of three key knowledge transfer factors and three distinct forms of artificial intelligence, including machine learning, in facilitating knowledge transfer. These insights can prove invaluable to entrepreneurs operating within the internal combustion engine automotive sector, offering essential guidance for enhancing the knowledge transfer process and navigating the transition to the electric vehicle industry. Foot amputation can happen due to several factors and cause severe changes in the individual's gait pattern, reduces mobility and generates injuries. Over the past two decades, researchers have dedicated efforts to develop transtibial pros-theses capable of reproducing healthy foot movement to help the amputee rehabilitation process. This work presents the digital prototype, dynamic modeling and preliminary control of an active ankle-foot prosthesis. The powertrain of the devices is composed of a EC 60 flat 200 W motor coupled to a CPL-20A-50-2 51:1 harmonic drive to generate active torque for the user. Results indicate that the projected prosthesis is promising for the proposed function, with 1.633 kg, a height of 168.57 mm and capable of generating up to 1.02 N.m/kg of torque and 5.39 rad/s of angular velocity, considering a time span of 1 second for the gait cycle on level ground. © 2022 IEEE.

In radiation therapy, positioning patients to ensure the accuracy of the setup of a procedure is a routine and labour-intensive process that substantially determines the efficacy of treatment. In this study, we propose a virtual positioning system that can simulate the positioning process with a visible beam path under the broad view of a life-like patient-positioning platform to obviate problems with excessively narrow view. This system integrates image processing, computer graphics, and virtual reality to encompass a 3D treatment target reconstructed from medical images of different modalities in a virtual scene. An innovative evaluation method is further proposed to verify the efficacy of the system using a full-scale 3D solid anthropometric model, and a treatment target showed an accuracy of 99% in calibration and a mean compatibility of 95% with an actual measurement. The proposed virtual positioning system provides a training and education platform for radiation therapy. The methodology through which the system was developed is also disclosed as a promising approach to improve the efficiency and safety of the position verification process for existing systems. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature.

Navigating the complex legal and regulatory landscape requires a sophisticated platform that is not only comprehensive but also user-friendly and enables seamless analysis and document comparison in the legal realm. To address this challenging requirement, this research is dedicated to the user experience (UX) design of state-of the-art cloud-native mobile applications specifically designed for legal and regulatory harmonization. The methodology used is based on design thinking principles and takes advantage of the benefits of cloud computing. These include, but are not limited to, scalability, reliability, and security. The result is a solution that is not only powerful but also cost-effective. The core of this application follows a user-centered design philosophy and involves potential users closely in the design process. A comprehensive evaluation is performed using the System Usability Scale (SUS) methodology to measure the effectiveness and usability of the application. The results of this comprehensive approach are convincing. The application has an impressive 95.5% usage rate, indicating strong user engagement. Furthermore, user satisfaction ratings are particularly high and transformative impact of this application in a complex environment of legal harmonization. Through its innovative design, seamless functionality, and user-centric approach, this application has proven to be not only a technical solution, but also a catalyst for positive change in the legal and regulatory harmonization process. © 2023 IEEE.

Baby chairs are important equipment in the early stages of child care. An ergonomic, comfortable, and safe baby chair is the most important point that is expected by a customer. An ergonomic and safety baby chair will provide better comfort for the baby since the higher need for affection and emotional bonds. The research aimed to investigate and develop an ergonomic baby chairs design with considering comfort and regulatory safety standards. The initial step was product design scoring based on customer voice using simple decision matrices. Optimization of the structure material selection parameters was carried out by using a numerical simulator based on the factor of safety. The research shows that a baby chair need to have safety features such as castors with brake, 5-points restrain system, adjustable or recline seat, detachable tray. Durability features are also important, such as high tensile strength, wear and impact-resistant material, and lightweight aluminium structure. As a result, a hollow aluminium pipe with a diameter of 26 mm for the chair structure is the most economic choice with a factor of safety 4.8. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The paper presented the design and analysis using Design for Disassembly methodology. Based on detailing material selection, use simpler materials, use environmentally friendly packaging, reduced packaging size had to be considerate for the product development. The benefit of simplified process, less production machines were used, needed energy to drive machines could be more efficient. The less amount of material used the less waste after the product life was over. The selection of material affected the recycling process. With design methods, the shorter the production process, the more energy savings, packaging could be more concise. The paper is divided into three main concepts, including 3D images with SolidWorks, material selection, and material evaluation for making it easier to analyse and determine type of material will use next. Based on the process of selection and evaluation, a new design of a hand dryer was proposed using four high density ABS, VLDPE, HDPE, and PP materials. The next step, SolidWorks to create a 3D display for a suitable hand dryer. The research focussed on the design that can support to all user even for children and disabilities, beside that it considers material to support sustainability. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Opinion has always affected businesses and individuals especially from the Public. People react through social media and spread it incompletely. The situation was then accepted as public opinion. There are three categories of opinion i.e., positive, negative, and neutral. To investigate public opinion on a particular issue of interest, sentiment analysis might be employed. By offering a solution to the text classification challenge, this experiment focuses on the perception of airline tweets among the American public. We offer a method to classify tweets as positive, negative, or neutral using three machine learning classifiers: Random Forest Classifier, Naive Bayes Classifier, and K-Nearest Neighbors Classifier. We examined the performance of three machine learning classifiers in terms of accuracy, average precision, average recall, and average f-1 score. The results demonstrate that the Random Forest Classifier, which produces 82% accuracy, 80% average precision, 82% average recall, and 80% average f1-score, performs the best among the machine learning classifiers. © 2023 IEEE.
