Irrigation plays a vital role in global food production,contributing approximately 40%of the total production[1],although the contribution varies by crop type[2,3].However,irrigation water withdrawal constitutes 65%–70%of total global anthropogenic water withdrawal[4,5],making it the largest water-use sector *** irrigation water demand,sources,and availability,particularly in the context of climate change,is crucial for identifying potential threats to crop production and ensuring future global food *** studies have focused extensively on the impacts of climate change on irrigation water demand and withdrawal[6–9];however,it remains unclear how climate change will affect the sources of irrigation water withdrawal.

Plant richness-biomass relationships in restored northern Great Plains grasslands (USA)

We investigated plant richness-biomass relationships in tall grass (Field 1, 12 years) and mixed grass (Field 2, 5 years) restoration experiments located in the northern Great Plains grasslands (USA). They were organized as randomized factorial experiments with fertilization rates (N or P) and number of species as factors. Results were as follows: (1) above ground biomass (AGB) increased and year-to-year variability declined with plant species and functional form richness. (2) AGB was higher when the species had various combinations: (a) high relative growth rates, root density, root surface area, N or P uptake rates, and N use efficiency;(b) low root-to-shoot ratio and root plasticity. (3) Biomass stability was positively related to high root surface area in Field 1 and N use efficiency and P uptake rates in Field 2. (4) Invasion of nonseeded species declined with plant species and functional form richness. © 2011 Mario E. Biondini et al.

Faunus ater is a favoritemollusca that is often found on the Bale River. Local people use these snails as food for consumption along with their main food. Bale River itself is located adjacent to the cement factory, used water washing machines distributed to the river is feared to support the presence of lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) metals in the river. This study aims to analyze the relationship of Pb and Zn content in sediments to the content of Pb and Zn in Faunus ater. Data collection was carried out in Februari until April 2018. The relationship between Pb and Zn content in sediments with Pb and Zn content in the body of Faunus ater was analyzed by correlation analysis. The results of the data analysis showed that the metal content of Pb and Zn in sediment and Faunus aterwere found to vary. The highest Pb content in sediment was found at station 2 in March, amounting to 32.87 mg / kg. while the highest Zn content was found at station 1 in March amounting to 84 mg / kg. The relationship of heavy metals Pb and Zn in sediments to the content of Pb and Zn in the body of Faunus ater showed a negative correlation. The conclusion of this study is that there is no correlation between the content of Pb and Zn heavy metals in sediments on the content of lead Pb and Zn in the body of Faunus ater at the Bale Lhoknga River in Aceh Besar District. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

A simple method to classify stream thermal stability with single observations of daily maximum water and air temperatures

The relationship between instream water temperature and ambient air temperature at six stream sites in southern Ontario was examined. At two sites, maximum summer water temperatures never exceeded 17°C;at two others, temperatures remained below 23°C;and at the remaining two, temperatures reached 28°C. The relationship that best distinguished the three pairs of sites was the regression of water temperature measured at 1600 hours on maximum air temperature. Analysis of covariance indicated that the regression slopes for the first (cold) and second (cool) pairs of sites were nonhomogeneous;those for the second (cool) and third (warm) pairs were homogeneous, and the adjusted means were significantly different. Where data were available, analysis of covariance indicated that the relationship did not differ between years. Graphical analysis of the data indicated little overlap of 95% confidence intervals at air temperatures greater than 25°C. The regression results were used to develop a nomogram to determine the thermal stability of stream sites from a single observation of water temperature at 1600 hours on a warm summer day and a maximum air temperature estimate for the same day.

This study investigates how artificial intelligence (AI) can transform audit processes, including how AI can be used in businesses to execute non-technical audit tasks and what effect this will have on those tasks. A qualitative case study methodology is used in the research design to give detailed insights into how AI is being adopted by businesses. This study aims to analyze the aspects that impact AI implementation from the viewpoints of managers, auditors, and other stakeholders. The findings show that artificial intelligence (AI) has a great deal of promise for non-technical audit procedures in businesses. AI can automate tedious jobs, evaluate large data sets to identify hazards and enhance teamwork and communication. These developments may lead to increased productivity, maybe better audit quality, and more effective processes. But there are still difficulties. Data quality is essential to the success of AI integration, and auditors may exhibit bias in favor of human professionals. Careful thought must also be given to ethical issues about transparency and possible job displacement. All things considered, this study adds significant knowledge to both the academic literature and real-world auditing applications. It improves our comprehension of the function of AI in the industry and provides useful information for people involved in information technology development, audit, and legislation.

In the current day, digital transformation is imperative; both customer demand and market competitiveness are mostly driving that trend. The fourth industrial revolution has also affected the financial sector. One difficulty that has to be addressed is the desire from customers for quick and useful services. Traditional procedures need to be replaced with digital ones. Furthermore, banking organizations will have a competitive edge in the current market if they are successful in this digital transformation process. Successful transformation, however, does not happen by accident; in fact, the likelihood of completing this change is seen to be very low, necessitating rigorous planning for a company that is ready for the future. There are several components to the preparation in question, both internal and external. In this situation, the company's ability to combine and rearrange its resources quickly is essential for adapting to the ever-changing business environment.

The effectiveness of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes in various applications is often hampered by fouling, necessitating the exploration of modification strategies to enhance their antifouling properties. This study investigates the effect of combining cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) and graphene oxide (GO) on PVDF membranes to address this issue. Six flat sheet membranes with different compositions were fabricated using a non-solvent-induced phase separation method. The resulting membrane (M5: CNC 1 % w/w and GO 0.25 % w/w) exhibited increased surface pores, a finger-like cross-sectional structure, and higher water content. The pure water flux (PWF) in the M5 membrane increased to 37 L/m²∙h, with a humic acid (HA) rejection rate of 60 % and excellent antifouling properties (98.32 %). In conclusion, this study successfully modified PVDF membranes by combining CNC and GO, resulting in membranes with improved properties and performance. The present study provides valuable insights into composite membrane design and offers potential solutions to fouling challenges. © 2024 The Authors

Bhayangkara General Hospital is one of the hospitals in Medan City, which is located in the official residential area of the Mobile Brigade personnels of the Sumatera Utara Regional Police, therefore this Hospital is considered feasible to be used as a research location to see how the handling of medical waste water is managed properly. This type of research is a mixed method between qualitative and quantitative research. The purpose of this research was to determine the handling of medical waste water management at the Bhayangkara General Hospital Medan towards the Green Hospital development program. The green hospital concept is a PROFER criteria, one of the indicators is from the aspect of waste management (KLHK). Respondents in this research amounted to 40 people who were taken purposely (purposive sampling). Data were analyzed using CFA (Confirmatory Factor Analysis). Based on the processed data through CFA, an analysis of several related variables was obtained, namely; the variable of liquid waste (Y) Measurement indicators of physical and chemical parameters (1.00 coefficient); treatment of waste water management installation (0.2 coefficient); Monitoring of waste water management installation (0.2 coefficient); Utilization of final Results of waste water management installation from the water waste (0.9 coefficient).

An Integrated Method for the Selection of Optimum Locations for Landfilling Utilizing GIS: A Case Study of the State of Kuwait

With the rise of urbanization, change in lifestyles, and food habits, the amount of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) has been rapidly increasing with the composition constantly changing. Landfilling is the common approach for waste management in Kuwait, and around 90% of municipal wastes are disposed in landfill sites. Therefore, this study focused on the integration of different methods for the process of allocating optimum sites for MSW landfills, in four main stages. The first stage focused on utilizing the gap analysis method for the identification of effective criteria for landfill site selection, by comparing the criteria in Kuwait with the World Bank guidelines, US EPA, and Australia EPA, to suggest the best criteria for landfill site selection. These criteria were applied in the second and third stages to determine suitable locations for landfill sites using the Geographical Information System (GIS). In the last stage, the suitable areas were evaluated by studying the socioeconomic aspects such as distance to waste generation center, the proximity of existing roads, and lifespan to select optimum locations for landfilling. The results indicated that only one site with a total area of 12 km2 was considered optimum for MSW landfill sites in Kuwait. Therefore, moderate suitability areas were indicated to support and provide decision makers with more options. The moderately suitable sites are also suitable for landfilling, but they need to be designed carefully in order to avoid negative impacts on the environment and human health. Therefore, we conclude that there is an urgent need to apply the integrated waste management system in Kuwait, as well as to develop a long-term strategic plan.
