Impact of Increasing Input and Output Prices on Chili Production and Farmer Income in Banten Province

In 2019, chili production in Banten province amounted to 12,122.9 tons with a harvest area of 1,395 ha or productivity of 8.7 tons/ha. The objectives of this study are: 1) Analyzing the factors affecting the cultivated land area and chili production in Banten Province, 2) Analyzing the impact of increasing input and output prices on chili production in Banten Province. This study method used a survey method with 80 respondents. The analysis method uses the Simultaneous Equation Model. The results of the study were 1) The factors that significantly influence the cultivated land area of Rainy Season (RS) 2015/2016 were the number of: manure, solid organic fertilizers, other fertilizers, solid leaf fertilizers, and the total land area. The factors that significantly influence chili production in Banten Province are the number of: KCL fertilizer, liquid leaf fertilizer, and liquid growth stimulant. 2) From the policy simulation results, it is known that an increase in chili prices by 25%, Urea fertilizer by 25%, and NPK by 25% simultaneously will reduce production by 2.8% and chili farming income by 16.2%, but increase the area land 5.8% and farmer household income 0.06%. The government needs to stabilize the chili price and maintain the subsidized fertilizer price.

Properties of concrete paving blocks made with nickel slags

This study is a follow-up of nickel slag waste used for building construction materials. Paving blocks were made using a mixture of cement and aggregates in a ratio of 1: 3 and 1: 5 which used a mixture of nickel slag waste and natural sand with aggregate gradation in zone III of the rather fine sand category based on SNI 03-2834-2000. Sand substitution with nickel slag waste has used a variation of the composition of the mixture of 0% (without slag), 25%, 75%, and 100% (without sand). The behaviour would be obtained the compressive strength value of paving blocks and average water absorption. Paving blocks compressive strength were tested at the age of 28 days, while the average value of water absorption was performed by immersing the paving block specimens for 24 hours. The physical strength and absorption value of paving block water refer to SNI 03-0691-1996. The results showed that the use of nickel slag waste in making paving blocks could increase the compressive strength of paving blocks, while water absorption in all compositions and variations of the paving blocks mixture was decreased in line with the increase of nickel slag composition.

Analysis of Factors that Influence the production of wetland rice in Banten Province

Banten Province has a harvested area of paddy fields on the 2017 year of 415,687 ha and production of 2,369,731 tons of milled dry grain (MDG). The objectives of this study are: 1) Knowing the condition of wetland rice farming in Banten Province, 2) Knowing the factors that influence the production of wetland rice in Banten Province, 3) Knowing the efficiency of the use of production inputs. The sampling method used purposive sampling with 123 respondents. The analytical method used multiple linear of Cobb Douglas production functions and descriptive analysis. The results of the study are: 1) Rice paddy farming in Rainy Season (RS) 2017/2018 has a B/C ratio of 1.7. The productivity of paddy rice is 5.91 tons harvested dry grain (HDG)/ha. 2) Significant factors affecting the production of paddy rice in RS 2017/2018 are The amount of use of solid organic fertilizer, The amount of solid herbicide use, The amount of use of human labor rent, and the arable land area, 3). The cumulative elasticity is 0.97, is inelastic, meaning that the addition of 1% of the production factor will increase production by 0.97% or decreasing return to scale. So rice farming is relatively inefficient.

Cu metal concentration in the water and sediment of Surabaya's flowed-Jagir River Estuary

Cu is one of the few metals that predominate in water. In addition, Cu potentially pollutes to any aquatic organisms due to bioaccumulation and biomagnification. One of the estuaries that experienced pressure due to the presence of Cu is Jagir River estuary in Surabaya. The objective of this study was to determine Cu metal concentration in the water and sediment of Jagir River estuary. The sample was purposively taken from the estuary area and its surroundings, in general grouped in three locations: station 1 (before entering the estuary), station 2 (inside estuary), and station 3 (flowing beyond the estuary). The results indicated that the concentration of Cu in the water at station 1 was <0.004 mg L-1 while station 2 and 3 had the same concentration of 0.05 mg L-1. Cu concentration at stations 2 and 3 exceeded the standard limits set by the government. In terms of sediments, Cu concentrations were still below the standard quality limits with an average of 44.73 mg kg-1. Therefore, the water of Jagir River estuary had been already polluted by Cu metal, however Cu concentration in the sediment still meets the criteria of the government.

An e-Commerce company has been using an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for several years, but is still constrained in its implementation, this is reflected in the number of issue/change request tickets submitted by users who have not been able to reach ideal conditions. To overcome this problem, we need an appropriate reference model, the ERP system user acceptance model in companies. The study conducted factors that influence the level of acceptance of SAP ERP users in the XYZ group to then determine a model that is able to explain practically the level of ERP system user acceptance, which in turn can produce concrete proposals to increase ERP system user acceptance. Research is quantitative descriptive using factor analysis and regression analysis methods. The research method uses a questionnaire with a total of 107 valid respondents coming from 8 company names under the XYZ group in 6 Southeast Asian countries. The conclusion of the study is that there are 24 indicators and 4 factors that influence user acceptance of the SAP ERP system. These four factors are the low contribution of the ERP system, the quality of ERP systems and data, the development of ERP systems, and also the low quality of ERP system supporters. It is hoped that by optimizing the value of the 4 factors, the XYZ group can increase user acceptance of the SAP ERP system so that the system can provide benefits expected by the company to be competitive advantage.

The textile industry is one of the leading contributors of liquid waste in the form of synthetic dyes, which significantly contaminate water sources. Heterogeneous photocatalysts employ semiconductors that trigger photocatalytic processes with the assistance of UV or visible light to degrade waste. Tungsten trioxide (WO₃) is a potential semiconductor with a small band gap (2.8 eV) that absorbs visible light. WO₃ was combined with graphene oxide (GO) and hydroxyapatite (HAp) to exploit the ultrasonication method to degrade methylene blue (MB) dye. The results of the SEM-EDX characterization confirm the constituent elements of the WO₃/GO/HAp material. The chemical elements were confirmed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The ability of the original and modified WO₃ photocatalysts (WO₃/HAp, WO₃/GO and WO₃/GO/HAp) to degrade 15 ppm of 50 ml of MB solution at concentrations of 10, 15, and 20 mg for 4 h under visible light was investigated. The breakdown of the methylene blue dye demonstrated that the reaction speed followed a first-order pattern. Meanwhile the adsorption isotherm better fit Langmuir for WO₃/GO and WO₃/GO/HAp. The highest pollutant degradation was achieved using 20 mg WO₃/GO and WO₃/GO/HAp photocatalysts, which achieved efficiencies of 99.1 % and 98.3 %. These results confirm that the WO₃/HAp;WO₃/GO, and WO₃/GO/HAp hybrid photocatalysts exhibit better degradation performance than unmodified WO₃ photocatalysts. Additionally, these photocatalysts can be reused up to three times without experiencing substantial loss in effectiveness. © 2024 The Authors

This study delves into the evaluation of the Komodo dragons Adaptive Conservation program (KACP) at Komodo National Park in Indonesia through Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA). It aims to understand how the programs components align with community priorities and assess its effectiveness. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, this research analyzes community perceptions of KACP's critical elements, spanning eco-tourism initiatives to environmental protection strategies. The community is categorized into local advocates, eco-tourism enthusiasts, and eco-community harmonizers, identifying how each group perceives and interacts with various facets of KACP. The findings reveal significant differences in perceptions of importance and performance among these groups, providing insights into areas of strength and those needing improvement. Additionally, the study includes an analysis of demographic influences on these perceptions through Logit and Probit models, aiming to understand the impacts across different community segments. The results highlight the necessity for an adaptive and responsive design in conservation efforts, considering community expectations and ecological impacts. Despite offering comprehensive insights, the study acknowledges limitations in the demographic scope and suggests future research directions, such as longitudinal studies and an expanded analysis of variables. These findings offer critical guidance for policymakers and conservation practitioners to enhance conservation programs’ effectiveness and community alignment, emphasizing the need to adapt to the challenges and changes introduced by KACP. © 2024 Elsevier GmbH

Belawan river is one of the rivers in North Sumatera Province. Belawan river which crosses Deli Serdang District and Medan City is used for the activities of plantation, agriculture, livestock, sand mining, a place for bathing and washing as well as serving as a lavatory, hospital, hotel, settlements, and industry. Utilization of the river as a wastewater disposal site can cause a decrease in the quality of river water. The purpose of this research was to analyze the Belawan river water quality spatially. Water sampling was taken at nine points which included three upstream segment points in Deli Serdang District, three middle segment points in Deli Serdang District and Medan City, and three downstream segment points in Deli Serdang District. Based on the results of the research it can be concluded that the value of Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) at several monitoring points in Belawan river has exceeded the water quality standard limits of class I Government Regulation of Republic of Indonesia Number 82 the year 2001 and North Sumatera Governor Regulation Number 21 the year 2006.

Evaluating the physical quality of soil (SPQ) at the watershed scale is crucial for improved management and conservation of soil and water within the watershed. This study aims to assess the spatial uncertainties of soil physical vulnerability (SPV), based on the characterization of the distribution and spatial variability of physical-hydric attributes (PHA), using geostatistical simulation within the established sample grid in the Santa Rita watershed (SRW), located in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Southern Brazil. Variability and spatial distribution were assessed using the Matheron estimator and the sequential Gaussian simulation (SGS) method, respectively. Uncertainties of macroporosity (Ma), bulk density (Bd), and saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) were evaluated based on cumulative frequency distribution curves and coefficient of variation mapping from simulations. The SPV was assessed by integrating different critical zone maps based on Ma, Bd, and Ks. Among the studied attributes, Ks exhibited the highest heterogeneity. SGS effectively characterized the variability and spatial distribution of Ma, Bd, and Ks, identifying critical areas and developing maps highlighting zones with compromised soil quality. Ks required more simulated random fields, while Ma presented fewer uncertainties. The spatial uncertainties for SPV were minimal, despite using different combinations of PHA in the assessment. Soils under native forest showed a lower tendency for physical degradation, whereas soils under crops and native field in the southern portion of the SRW exhibited a higher tendency for physical degradation. Mapping SPV is crucial for assessing SPQ, identifying areas prone to fragility, and promoting sustainable soil and water management. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The dynamic model of paddy field conversion control in Citarum watershed

The rate of population growth and the increase in food needs for consumption have made the need for paddy fields higher. On the other hand, the pressure on paddy fields is quite intense so that the conversion of paddy fields is quite challenging to be controlled. Moreover, the concerns about food security and food sovereignty have become critical issues. The high demand for land utilization has caused pressure on paddy fields in the Citarum watershed. The objective of this study is to build a model for maintaining paddy fields in the Citarum watershed. The study was conducted from June to September 2015. The method of this research is a modelling using system dynamics approach by simulating time series data. From the simulation, it can be concluded that the rate of conversion of paddy fields will still be high if there is no specific policy in its protection. This fact can be seen from various scenario conditions, either in existing circumstances, in the optimistic scenario, as well as in a moderate scenario. The strategy that can be done is that paddy fields should be specially protected or owned by the government to minimize the rate of conversion.
