In an oil drilling area, there are two oil drilling companies that have obtained permits to drill. As time goes by, the availability of existing petroleum decreases. To anticipate natural resources the government only prioritizes one company. Competition occurs between the two of them to explore petroleum from the ground so that they can drill. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview, how to make a system dynamics model related to the problem of oil drilling as an increasingly limited natural resource, by taking the case of the relationship between drilling companies in facing business competition. The method used is system dynamics with a standard model of mutual difficulties (drifting goals). The result obtained is a system dynamics model that can be used to demonstrate the behavior of a simulated petroleum drilling model to get an overview or condition of the limitations of petroleum and future availability.

Among a set of tools to emerge in recent years in environmental management, one appears to meet the criteria necessary to bridge this gap is the environmental footprint analysis based on biophysical reality of sustainable living, people must use natural renewable products and services not sooner than they are replacedand produces no waste faster than nature can absorb. The purpose of this study is to develop a model of noise environment footprint toward sustainability airport with the environmental assessment at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The results showed that the airport ecological footprint of the model can be built through the factors analysis that can give an idea of the influence of ecoairport. The conclusion of this study is to obtain the noise ecological footprint provides a method for the total impact of air transport to be assessed, the ecological footprint can be used as a communication and awareness tool to inform communities about the impact they make. It can lead to shifts to public transport for airport access, ecological footprint can be used by airports and airlines to identify operations where energy efficiency measures can be made and where resource consumption can be reduced

Back-arc basin closure at the East Asian margin during Permo-Triassic boundary: Evidence from geochemistry and U-Pb zircon data of sedimentary breccia from Maizuru Terrane, Southwest Japan

The paleo Maizuru back-arc basin, which was located at the East Asian continental margin opened in Early Permian times and closed during the Permo-Triassic (P-T) boundary. The back-arc basin sediments are exposed in the present-day Maizuru Terrane located in Southwest Japan and hold the key to understand the tectonic evolution of both this back-arc basin and that of the East Asian continental margin. The opening of the Maizuru back-arc basin was accompanied by the deposition of a massive black mudstone-dominated formation, presently recognized as the Maizuru Group. The closure of the back-arc basin which was accompanied by the deposition of coarse-grained materials such as the Tonoshiki breccia made up of differently-sized extremely angular clasts implies that the P-T boundary was a tectonically active period in the Maizuru Terrane. Petrographical and geochemical studies revealed that Tonoshiki breccia can be divided into two main types, a first type mainly made up of mafic to intermediate rock clast fragments (Type I) and a second type mostly consisting of felsic rock clast materials (Type II). Both types commonly contain massive black mudstone clasts that were derived from the underlying Maizuru Group. The U-Pb detrital zircon geochronology of those two types of breccia suggests that they were deposited during two phases of the tectonic activity-induced debris flow that occurred at ca. 259 Ma and ca. 251 Ma for the first and second type, respectively. Type I was sourced from the Southern zone, whereas Type II was sourced mostly from the Northern zone of the Maizuru Terrane. This switch of provenance testifies to the intense tectonic activity that reigned during the P-T boundary. The closure of the Maizuru back-arc basin was induced by the subduction of the basement crust of the basin under the East-Asian continent during the P-T boundary. © 2022 The Authors

Perception Analysis of Airport Noise on Environment, Sosial, and Economic at Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport

The increase in aircraft noise is an inevitable impact of Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (HLP) commercial operations since 2014. The perception of noise risk from people living around airports is a factor that must be considered for formulating strategic, comprehensive airport noise control plans and policies, and participatory. The purpose of this study is to analyze the noise conditions and the perception of environmental noise risk to the perception of socioeconomic risks that live around the HLP Airport. The results of the WECPNL calculation in area of Jaticempaka and Makasar was ranged between 73.80—79.72. The environmental noise risk of the community in HLP Airport's vicinity was studied from knowledge aspects, perception aspects, and behavior aspects. Most of respondent were in the moderate category of environmental noise risk knowledge and environmental noise risk perception. While for environmental noise risk behavior aspects most respondent were in the low category. The social and economic risk perception for most respondent were in the moderate category. The conclusion of this research is that the community settlements in HLP Airport's vicinity at the distance of 300 m and 600 m does not meet the environmental noise standard for a residential area which is regulated at 55 dB(A). The ideal area for settlement use in the vicinity of HLP Airport is Makassar area which is located 600 m from HLP Airport's runway.

The Water Quality Characteristics and Quality Status of Bengkulu River and Nelas River, Bengkulu Province: Conditions for The Last Six Years

The existence of extractive activities around the river has a negative impact on the quality of river water. This study aims to provide an overview of water quality characteristics and water quality status of Bengkulu River and Nelas River in Bengkulu Province. The data used is river quality monitoring conducted by the Environment and Forestry Service of Bengkulu Province from 2014 to 2019. Measurements are carried out twice a year representing, the dry season (March to June) and the rainy season (September to December). The observation stations representing upstream, middle and downstream of rivers conditions. The parameters observed were physical, chemical, and biological parameters. The water quality status is determined using the Storet Index. The results show that both rivers have Storet Index >-31. It means that these river water are heavily polluted. Parameters that have exceeded the water quality standard are TSS, DO, BOD, COD, Fe, Mn, Cu, and total coliform. The river water quality parameters, especially heavy metals, may be caused by open land being washed and carried into the river body. The existence of population and animal activities as well as industrial waste outlets at upstream also affect the decline of river water quality.

Molasses has a high sugar content and potentially good to be used as a fermentation substrate in the production of ethanol. The main purpose of this study is to compared the ethanol yield between free and immobilized on calcium alginate as the agent of fermentation. The fermentation of molasses was carried out directly using yeast isolate K2 which was free and immobilized on calcium alginate. Isolate K2 was tested physiologically first to determine the character of its tolerance to NaCl, pH, and molasses. The physiological character of isolate K2 showed its ability to grow at the limit of 12% NaCl, pH 3-6, and 25% molasses concentration at 30°C. The highest ethanol content was 1.96% from 25% molasses concentration with 24 hours fermentation using immobilized K2 isolate while the lowest ethanol content was 0.42% from 24 hours fermentation time using free yeast. Substantially, it can be concluded that the immobilization of K2 isolate in calcium alginate has the potential to increase the production of ethanol from molasses.

—LIDAR (light detection and ranging) is an optical remote-sensing technique that measures the distance between sensor and object, and the reflected energy from the object. Over the years, LIDAR data has been used as the primary source of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs). DEMs have been used in a variety of applications like road extraction, hydrological modeling, flood mapping, and surface analysis. A number of studies in flooding suggest the usage of high- resolution DEMs as inputs in the applications improve the overall reliability and accuracy. Despite the importance of high-resolution DEM, many areas in the United States and the world do not have access to high-resolution DEM due to technological limitations or the cost of the data collection. With recent development in Graphical Processing Units (GPU) and novel algorithms, deep learning techniques have become attractive to researchers for their performance in learning features from high-resolution datasets. Numerous new methods have been proposed such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to create intelligent models that correct and augment large-scale datasets. In this paper, a GAN based model is developed and evaluated, inspired by single image super-resolution methods, to increase the spatial resolution of a given DEM dataset up to 4 times without additional information related to data. Flamingos use their L-shaped beak and morphing feet to induce vortical traps for prey capture

Flamingos feature one of the most sophisticated filter-feeding systems among birds, characterized by upside-down feeding, comb-like lamellae, and a piston-like tongue. However, the hydrodynamic functions of their L-shaped chattering beak, S-curved neck, and distinct behaviors such as stomping and feeding against the flow remain a mystery. Combining live flamingo experiments with live brine shrimp and passive particles, bioinspired physical models, and 3D CFD simulations, we show that flamingos generate self-induced vortical traps using their heads, beaks, and feet to capture agile planktonic prey in harsh fluid environments. When retracting their heads rapidly (~40 cm/s), flamingos generate tornado-like vortices that stir up and upwell bottom sediments and live shrimp aided by their L-shaped beak. Remarkably, they also induce directional flows (~7 cm/s) through asymmetric beak chattering underwater (~12 Hz). Their morphing feet create horizontal eddies during stomping, lifting, and concentrating sediments and brine shrimp, while trapping fast-swimming invertebrates, as confirmed by using a 3D-printed morphing foot model. During interfacial skimming, flamingos produce a vortical recirculation zone at the beak's tip, aiding in prey capture. Experiments using a flamingo-inspired particle collection system indicate that beak chattering improves capture rates by ~7×. These findings offer design principles for bioinspired particle collection systems that may be applied to remove pollutants and harmful microorganisms from water bodies.

BackgroundHuman exposure to cadmium has various effects on health, especially the reproductive organs in males. Although it is widely known that prenatal maternal cadmium exposure can affect birth outcomes, the effect of paternal exposure to cadmium remains *** purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of paternal cadmium exposure on fetal growth by considering not only maternal cadmium exposure but also exposure to other heavy *** Mothers and Children’s environmental Health (MOCEH) study is a prospective birth cohort study in Korea. Overall, 1313 families (Father-Mother-Child) who did not have child abnormalities and who completed paternal whole blood cadmium assessments were included. Families were divided into two subgroups based on the blood sampling period (early and late pregnancy). Subjects were selected one family triple with high level of paternal cadmium and 2 triples with low levels of paternal cadmium, using the method of propensity score matching. And linear regression analyses were *** group with high paternal cadmium exposure (80% or more: 1.93 ug/L) had less birth weight than the group with low cadmium concentrations(β(se)=-0.21(0.10), p-value=0.0283). After stratified by infantile sex, prenatal paternal cadmium exposure significantly reduced the birth weight of girls only in both subgroup of different sampling time (Early pregnancy: β(se) = −0.52 (0.22), p-value = 0.0170, Late pregnancy: β(se) = −0.43 (0.18), p-value = 0.0160). Finally, after performing propensity score matching in the early pregnancy measurement group, it was found that the prenatal exposure of cadmium in fathers significantly reduced birth weight in girls(β(se)=-0.72(0.25), p-value=0.0047).DiscussionThis study assessed the effect of paternal cadmium exposure on birth outcomes in family units consisting of a father, mother, and child. Orthotropic Levy-type solution plates considering shear deformation were solved by using the Spectral Element Method (SEM). In SEM, the exact solution of structural dynamic related problems can be solved by using the frequency-dependent shape functions. The solutions of SEM are accurate in decreasing the amount of Degree Of Freedoms (DOF) to discard the cost and computational disadvantages in the Finite Element Method (FEM). This study investigates the free vibration problems of orthotropic Levy-type solution plates solutions based on the two variable Refined Plate Theory (RPT). SEM for orthotropic Levy-type solution plates in the frequency domain was formulated to solve free vibration problems. The differential governing equations of the orthotropic plate element in SEM are formulated into the form of transcendental stiffness matrices. The boundary conditions of the spectral element model consist of four edge-type DOFs at each side of the orthotropic Levy-type solution plates. The natural frequencies of the plate are calculated by means of the Wittrick-Williams procedure. The numerical investigations are presented to show the accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of SEM without any discretization scheme. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
