Optimizing waste pre-collection model in Indonesian communities: comparing drop-off and door-to-door models through social cost–benefit analysis

Indonesia lacks an established waste pre-collection system resulting 90% waste ending up in open-dumping site. This study identifies a 35-m radius per drop-off points as the most optimal model. The City of South Tangerang, on 21 residential areas with a population of 63,157, being examine. Utilizing ArcGIS Pro and Python scripting, 12 scenarios were developed, model drop-off radii of 15–45 m and household limits of 4–32 per drop-off point, including combined models. Spatial clustering KD-Tree algorithm and Proximity-based Routing were employed to determine collection placements and walking distances. Heatmap and ANOVA tests evaluated conformity with residential characteristics. Model then organized into eight frequency schemes, utilizing motorcart and handcart systems with 4-day and 2-day pickup schedules for waste bank and in-house compost programs. This optimized model reduces collection time by up to 81% and costs by 50% compared to traditional door-to-door systems, achieving cost reductions of $30–$38 USD per ton and lowering CO₂ emissions. Heavy metal concentration in pregnant women affects neurocognitive and behavioral development of their infants and children. The majority of existing research focusing on pregnant women's heavy metal concentration has considered individual environmental factor. In this study, we aim to comprehensively consider lifestyle, food, and environmental factors to determine the most influential factor affecting heavy metal concentration in pregnant women. The Ko-CHENS (Korean CHildren health and environmental Study) is a nationwide prospective birth cohort study in South Korea enrolling pregnant women from 2015 to 2020. A total of 5458 eligible pregnant women were included in this study, and 897 variables were included in questionnaire comprising: maternal general information, indoor and living environment, dietary habits, health behavior, exposure to chemicals. Lead, cadmium and mercury concentration on blood were measured in early, late pregnancy and in cord blood at birth. Variables that might be related to heavy metal concentrations were included in machine learning models. Random forest and XGBoost machine learning models were conducted for predictions. Both models had similar but better performance than multiple linear regression. Kimchi (β = 1.55), seaweed (β = 0.40), fatty fish (β = 1.55), intakes respectively affected lead, cadmium, and mercury exposure through early, late pregnancy and cord blood. © 2025

The Banda Sea, the largest and deepest ocean basin in the Indonesian Seas and a pivotal reservoir of the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) exhibits significant seasonal variability in surface heat transport (SHT). This study investigates the influence of mesoscale eddies, sea surface wind (SSW), Ekman transport, and radiation as well as their complex interplay in shaping the SHT. The complex bathymetry of the region fosters a three-dimensional circulation pattern, facilitating the mixing of Pacific and Indian waters into the distinctive Indonesian sea. Mesoscale anticyclonic eddy (AE) and cyclonic eddy (CE) play crucial roles in regulating vertical heat distribution through upwelling and downwelling mechanisms. From 2006 to 2020, 236 AE and 193 CE events were identified, peaking in April and November (transition periods), respectively. During the northwest monsoon (NWM), SHT decreases due to weaker wind-driven currents and reduced advective export, which in turn leads to the accumulation of warm surface waters. While during the southeast monsoon (SEM), SHT increases as water is exported to the Indian Ocean. The ITF modulates the effects of CE and AE, with mesoscale eddy activity significantly influencing heat distribution during monsoon transitions and peak ITF periods. The June–August increase in eddies also enhances freshwater transport in the Ombai Strait and Timor Passage. Seasonal variations in radiation and wind patterns further impact SHT. During the NWM, higher radiation leads to positive SST anomalies and downwelling, intensifying evaporation. Conversely, lower radiation during the SEM results in lower SST anomalies. However, the ocean's energy content remains relatively high due to convergent net heat transport. During transitional periods, net heat transport approaches zero, and SSW are relatively lower, contributing to a decrease in evaporation. A planing hull high-speed ferry with a stepped hull becomes a well-liked mode of water transportation for archipelago countries. On the other hand, the shape of steps on the bottom hull has not been recently taken into explicit consideration regarding the speed requirement and hydrodynamic properties. In this study, the step W shapes, were adopted to find the improved hydrodynamic performance in the planing conditions. To provide a more precise prediction of the pressure, velocity fields, and void fraction, the CFD was applied the Finite Volume Method (FVM) and coupled with Volume of Fluid Method (VOF) to capture air cavity The numerical conditions of the planing hull were trimmed by the stern with 2, and 3 degrees. This study discussed the air cavity that occurred behind the stepped area that can affect the hydrodynamic behaviour. © 2023 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).

Objectives Although previous epidemiological studies have reported the effects of fetal exposure to phthalates and phenols on birth outcomes, evidence is limited. The objective of this study was to investigate whether prenatal exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals [EDCs;phthalates and bisphenol A (BPA)] is associated with birth outcomes and whether there are sex-specific *** We used data from the Korean CHildren’s environmental health Study (Ko-CHENS) cohort. Exposure to phthalates and BPA was measured by urine tests, and the information on outcomes and confounders was obtained from delivery records, biomarker assessment, and a self-reported questionnaire. We performed multivariate logistic regression to estimate the association between exposure to individual EDCs and each birth outcome. Additionally, to evaluate the effects of EDC mixture exposure, we performed weighted quantile sum regression analysis. Subgroup analysis stratified by maternal age and sex at birth was performed to examine potential differences in *** This study included 2,176 mother-child pairs from the Ko-CHENS. We observed a significant association between the risk of PTB and exposure to BPA during early pregnancy and mono-carboxyoctyl phthalate (MCOP) during late pregnancy, with odds ratios of 1.23 (95% CI: 1.01, 1.49) and 1.29 (95% CI: 1.03, 1.62), respectively. Additionally, there was a positive association between exposure to MCOP during early pregnancy and the risk of LBW (OR: 1.39, 95% CI: 1.03, 1.89). In any organization, the appropriate use of information systems will have an impact on the effectiveness of day-to-day operations. To find out how the performance of an information system is necessary to do an evaluation of the implementation of which has been run. This study evaluates the implementation of information systems in the Maternity Hospital St. Yosef. By adopting PIECES framework as an evaluation, primary data collection is done through questionnaires distributed. Of the some respondents who collected the data used factor analysis to get factors and indicators affect the successful implementation of system and get right model for evaluation of the Maternity Hospital in St. Joseph. The results showed that the factor of ease use and suitability to needs of a positive effect on the success, while reliability of system negatively affect the success. On a scale of 0-100 obtained an un-expected value of system performance is at 45.75 and the expected value of performance of the system is equal to 83.77. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper studies to establish the quantitative assessment model of combined noise in areas due to transportation source using the three-dimensional noise map and field survey. The three-dimensional noise map is used to calculate the noise level in each building and the field survey is performed to investigate annoyance response and non-noise factors. The three-dimensional city spatial model of noise map is obtained from city spatial information, which consists of digital elevation model and three-dimensional building ones, for finding the distribution of transportation noise in urban areas. The field survey is conducted to investigate the annoyance response of 693 households affected by of combined noise. Annoyance prediction models in three dominant areas of noise are made by the relationship between annoyance response rate and transportation noise level for the quantitative assessment to environmental noise standard of the combined noise. In this study, annoyance response rate to transportation noise level is compared to those by previous researches in European countries.

Studying the real-time dynamics of strongly correlated systems poses significant challenges, which have recently become more manageable thanks to advances in density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) and tensor network methods. A notable development in this area is the introduction of a complex-time evolution scheme for tensor network states, originally suggested for solving Anderson impurity model and designed to suppress the growth of entanglement under time evolution. In this study, we employ the complex-time evolution scheme to investigate the dynamics of one-dimensional spin systems, specifically the transverse-field Ising model (TFIM) and the XXZ model. Our analysis revisits the dynamic critical exponent z of the TFIM and explores the dynamical structure factor in both gapped and gapless states of the XXZ model. Importantly, the complex-time evolution reproduces the results of real-time evolution while mitigating the rapid growth of quantum entanglement typically associated with the latter. These results demonstrate that the combination of complex-time evolution and extrapolation provides a robust and efficient framework for studying the dynamics of complex quantum systems, enabling more comprehensive insights into their behavior. © 2025, CC BY.
