The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation(AMOC)is a crucial component of the Earth’s climate system due to its fundamental role in heat distribution,carbon and oxygen transport,and the *** climate components,such as the atmosphere and sea ice,influence the *** the physical mechanisms of those interactions is paramount to increasing knowledge about AMOC’s *** this study,the authors used outputs from the Community Earth system Model version 2 and observational data to investigate changes in theAMOC and the associated physical *** DECK experiments were evaluated:piControl and 1pctCO_(2),with an annual increase of 1%of atmospheric CO_(2).The analysis revealed a significant decrease in the AMOC,associated with changes in mixed layer depth and buoyancy in high latitudes of the North Atlantic,resulting in the shutdown of deep convection and potentially affecting the formation of North Atlantic Deep Water and Antarctic Bottom Water.A vital aspect observed in this study is the association between increased runoff and reduced water evaporation,giving rise to a positive feedback ***,the rates of freshwater spreading have intensified during this period,which could lead to an accelerated disruption of the AMOC beyond the projections of existing models.

Radical Software published his seminal writings on video and NASA published his Earthscore Notational System. An Associate Professor at the New School he also authored Video Mind Earth Mind (Peter Lang 1993) and The Three Person Solution (Purdue University Press 2009). The Smithsonian Institution has acquired his archives. He is participating in Documenta 13. Felicity D. Scott is director of the program in Critical Curatorial and Conceptual Practices in Architecture (CCCP) at the Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation Columbia University. She is the author of Architecture or Techno-Utopia: Politics After Modernism (MIT Press 2007) and Living Archive 7: Ant Farm (ACTAR 2008). She recently completed the manuscript for a book titled “Cartographies of Drift: Bernard Rudofsky's Encounters with Modernity.” Mark Wasiuta teaches at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation where he is also Director of Exhibitions and Director of Global Experiments in Art and Architecture. His research is focused on the turn to theories of environment and environmental design in postwar architecture and he is currently working on a history of Los Angeles air its pollution and other contaminants.

The article presents an interview with video artist and art theoretician Paul Ryan. He chronicles the events that led to his working with artist Marshall McLuhan at Fordham University during the 1960s. He discusses his efforts to get the New York State Council on the Arts to increase grant funding for video as an art form in the 1970s. He also comments on his work within the cybernetic art movement.

In any organization, the appropriate use of information systems will have an impact on the effectiveness of day-to-day operations. To find out how the performance of an information system is necessary to do an evaluation of the implementation of which has been run. This study evaluates the implementation of information systems in the Maternity Hospital St. Yosef. By adopting PIECES framework as an evaluation, primary data collection is done through questionnaires distributed. Of the some respondents who collected the data used factor analysis to get factors and indicators affect the successful implementation of system and get right model for evaluation of the Maternity Hospital in St. Joseph. The results showed that the factor of ease use and suitability to needs of a positive effect on the success, while reliability of system negatively affect the success. On a scale of 0-100 obtained an un-expected value of system performance is at 45.75 and the expected value of performance of the system is equal to 83.77.

The Effect of Demographic Factors on Waste Generation and Heavy Metal in Illegal Landfill at Malaka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province

The population growth has led to a significant increase in the amount of waste every year. Meanwhile, several demographic factors influencing waste generation in Malaka Regency include an absence of a final landfill. This has caused the illegal dumping of waste which leads to various environmental problems. Therefore, this study aims to (I) analyze the effect of demographic factors on waste generation (II) determine the level of heavy metals and the chemical properties of the soil in the illegal landfill. In this study, the demographic factor sampling was conducted in all districts using a questionnaire to obtain each household sample and waste was weighed directly with the Stratified Random Sampling method. Also, soil samples at the landfill site were obtained through field observation and composite sampling. The results showed that age, gender of each family head, income, occupation, latest education, and the number of family members had a significant effect on waste generation in Malaka Regency. Based on the results, the content of Pb, Cd, and Hg in the soil at different waste disposal sites in Malaka Regency had passed the standard threshold value in soil, which showed that the land had been polluted by heavy metals.

Legitimacy plays a decisive role in shaping the acceptance of technology in a sociotechnical regime, and it results from the interplay between discourses and policy actors. This study examines the discourses and roles of key actors in legitimizing wind energy expansion in Brazil from 2015 to 2022. By analyzing 979 newspaper articles using Content Analysis, Discourse Network Analysis and Advocacy Coalition Framework, we identified influential coalitions, central policy actors, and legitimizing discourses. The findings reveal the fit-and-conform and stretch-and-transform discursive strategies, with more stable economic beliefs overlapping sustainable beliefs. A turning point occurred in 2020, likely heralding a new market opportunity for green hydrogen, sparking a further investigation. We also identified the centrality of policy-entrepreneurship and discussed these results with a theoretical perspective about discursive stability and non-state actors' role in sustainability transition, highlighting the problem of dominance on economic beliefs, where short-term success may not guarantee long-term sustainability changes. © 2024, The Authors. The heat reduction effect of trees has been investigated through numerical simulations;however, there are still challenges to applying the scientific results to the planning process due to the model's complexity and the computational resources required. This study investigates a rapid spatial evaluation method for heat stress potential, measured by mean radiant temperature (MRT), by decomposing radiation into sub-radiation using a multilayer MRT model. This method also enables the reproduction of optimized layouts considering the effect of tree arrangement in residential buildings. Multi-objectives were achieved through an evolutionary algorithm, resulting in more effective design layouts combining tree types and arrangements, all within a standard budget. By adopting this study's approach, landscape designers can create climate-responsive tree layouts with reduced heat exposure and generate customized planting designs tailored to their preferences. © 2023, The Authors. BackgroundHuman exposure to cadmium has various effects on health, especially the reproductive organs in males. Although it is widely known that prenatal maternal cadmium exposure can affect birth outcomes, the effect of paternal exposure to cadmium remains *** purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of paternal cadmium exposure on fetal growth by considering not only maternal cadmium exposure but also exposure to other heavy *** Mothers and Children’s environmental Health (MOCEH) study is a prospective birth cohort study in Korea. Overall, 1313 families (Father-Mother-Child) who did not have child abnormalities and who completed paternal whole blood cadmium assessments were included. Families were divided into two subgroups based on the blood sampling period (early and late pregnancy). Subjects were selected one family triple with high level of paternal cadmium and 2 triples with low levels of paternal cadmium, using the method of propensity score matching. And linear regression analyses were *** group with high paternal cadmium exposure (80% or more: 1.93 ug/L) had less birth weight than the group with low cadmium concentrations(β(se)=-0.21(0.10), p-value=0.0283). After stratified by infantile sex, prenatal paternal cadmium exposure significantly reduced the birth weight of girls only in both subgroup of different sampling time (Early pregnancy: β(se) = −0.52 (0.22), p-value = 0.0170, Late pregnancy: β(se) = −0.43 (0.18), p-value = 0.0160). Finally, after performing propensity score matching in the early pregnancy measurement group, it was found that the prenatal exposure of cadmium in fathers significantly reduced birth weight in girls(β(se)=-0.72(0.25), p-value=0.0047).DiscussionThis study assessed the effect of paternal cadmium exposure on birth outcomes in family units consisting of a father, mother, and child. The Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and former U.S. vice president Al Gore indicates that global warming is recognized as a real phenomenon critical to human beings. However, humanity's knowledge concerning global warming is based on an uncertainty larger than 50% in the warming rate during the past century. Therefore, scientific clarification is needed to understand important mechanisms that potentially produce positive feedbacks in the Earth system—such mechanisms must be better understood before scientists can develop more reliable predictions.

Decision-makers often encounter the challenge of efficient long-term ecological planning to consider economic and environmental trade-offs. However, tools to support stepwise mitigation strategies that account for dynamic ecological responses to continuing urban development are limited. Therefore, we developed a sequential action-based dynamic decision-making model to simulate stepwise mitigation measures in space over time using a multi-objective optimization algorithm. We focused on exploring the ecological corridors and habitat creation as mitigation measures through four decades to identify trade-offs and optimal plans that minimize landscape connectivity and edge density as ecological responses to urban development and minimize implementation costs per action. The results showed that adopting an initial low-investment strategy with sequential planning significantly enhanced potential ecological benefits beyond the 2000s compared with one-action planning. In contrast, the initial high-cost investment exhibited a gradual decline in the ecological benefits over time from 1995. The initial low-cost investment presented an opportunity to enhance ecological benefits by implementing early mitigation measures in locations capable of sustaining long-term ecological functions. The results suggest that sequential planning offers valuable insights into effective urban ecological planning by analyzing time-series data. This study enables step-by-step scenario testing, thereby supporting the facilitation of urban and regional sustainability planning. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
