Past air sampling detection (ASD) systems had no definitive positioning;most allocation of sampling points was based on experience. This research discovered that sampling points inside the electrical rooms were significantly affected by the ambient airflow, causing the detection system to have difficulties in fire detection. Fire dynamics simulator (FDS) was used to simulate very early smoke detection apparatus (VESDA) effectiveness within the protection area of an electrical room. Results showed that ASD sampling points in electrical rooms should be placed above high-voltage transformers and capacitors, while rearranging the high risk machines together to avoid long detection pipelines, which increases the transportation time of the gas, thus hindering early detection by the ASD system. Field tests using a smoke detector tester yielded transportation times of 33 s, which was in very good agreement with the simulated results of 35 s by ASPIRE, showing the accuracy of using software to simulate transportation times. Therefore, this research combined FDS with the transportation times of different pipeline designs to conduct performance assessment of VESDA. After appropriate rearrangement of machines, VESDA detection times dropped from 106.0-171.0 s during the original setup to 21.0-31.7 s, assuring the facility to have more time for emergency response. However, it was noticed that FDS software did not have the estimation tool for VESDA transportation times;therefore software such as ASPIRE should be used to calculate the gas transportation times inside the detection pipelines, and then compiled with FDS results to avoid underestimation of actuation times. © 2017 The Authors. Laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) may achieve TeV/m gradients using high-density solid-state plasmas as accelerating media. However, the application of bulk solid materials requires attosecond laser pulses, such as X-ray lasers, to drive wakefields at these high densities. Additionally, the short wakefield wavelengths associated with solid-state plasmas greatly limit the accelerating length. An alternative approach employs 2D carbon-based nanomaterials, like graphene or carbon nanotubes (CNTs), configured into structured targets. These nanostructures are designed with voids or low-density regions to effectively reduce the overall plasma density. This reduction enables the use of longer-wavelength lasers and also extends the plasma wavelength and the acceleration length. In this study, we present, to our knowledge, the first numerical demonstration of electron acceleration via self-injection into a wakefield bubble driven by an infrared laser pulse in structured CNT targets, similar to the behavior observed in gaseous plasmas for LWFA in the nonlinear (or bubble) regime. Using the PIConGPU code, bundles of CNTs are modeled in a 3D geometry as 25 nm-thick carbon tubes with an initial density of 1022 cm−3. The carbon plasma is ionized by a three-cycle, 800 nm wavelength laser pulse with a peak intensity of 1021 W cm−2, achieving an effective plasma density of 1020 cm−3. The same laser also drives the wakefield bubble, responsible for the electron self-injection and acceleration. Simulation results indicate that fs-long electron bunches with hundreds of pC charge can be self-injected and accelerated at gradients exceeding 1 TeV/m. ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE:Tarenaya aculeata is traditionally used in Brazil to treat inflammation and pain-related conditions. AIM OF THE STUDY:This study aimed to investigate the chemical composition, anti-inflammatory potential, and genotoxicity of a freeze-dried stem decoction of T. aculeata (SE) and a fraction free of the bulk of water-soluble compounds (SF). MATERIAL AND METHODS:The SE and SF samples were chemically characterized using UHPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS/MS. The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated at three doses (SE: 30, 100, and 300 mg/kg; SF: 10, 30, and 100 mg/kg) using carrageenan-induced paw edema and pleurisy models, while genotoxicity was assessed using the SMART test. RESULTS:A total of 35 compounds were annotated: one cyanogenic glycoside; three glucosinolates; one benzoic acid derivative; one indole alkaloid; five spermidine alkaloids; six flavonoids; four sesquilignans; and fourteen miscellaneous compounds. Among them, seven new compounds: 4-cyano-4-hydroxybutanoic acid hexoside; tarenayanines A1, B1, C1, and D1; quercetin-sinapoyl-rhamnosyl-hexosyl-hexosyl-rhamnoside; and tarenayolone. SE and SF were not genotoxic and significantly reduced inflammatory parameters and pain sensitivity thresholds. The analgesic effect of SE was observed at 300 mg/kg, while those of SF at 100 mg/kg. SE significantly reduced edema at 100 and 300 mg/kg at 3 and/or 4 hours post-induction, preventing mechanical hyperalgesia. SF inhibited edema only at 100 mg/kg, 3 and 4 hours after administration. Both samples decreased leukocyte migration to pleural exudate significantly. CONCLUSION:SE and SF showed in vivo anti-inflammatory action and were found to be rich in compounds associated with this therapeutic effect, supporting the use of T. aculeata for inflammation management.

Objective: Mobile nutrition applications (apps) provide a simple way for individuals to record their diet, but the validity and inherent errors need to be carefully evaluated. The aim of this study was to assess the validity and clarify the sources of measurement errors of image-assisted mobile nutrition apps. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with 98 students recruited from School of Nutrition and health Sciences, Taipei Medical University. A 3-d nutrient intake record by Formosa Food and Nutrient Recording App (FoodApp) was compared with a 24-h dietary recall (24-HDR). A two-stage data modification process, manual data cleaning, and reanalyzing of prepackaged foods were employed to address inherent errors. Nutrient intake levels obtained by the two methods were compared with the recommended daily intake (DRI), Taiwan. Paired t test, Spearman's correlation coefficients, and Bland–Altman plots were used to assess agreement between the FoodApp and 24-HDR. Results: Manual data cleaning identified 166 food coding errors (12%;stage 1), and 426 food codes with missing micronutrients (32%) were reanalyzed (stage 2). Positive linear trends were observed for total energy and micronutrient intake (all P_trend < 0.05) after the two stages of data modification, but not for dietary fat, carbohydrates, or vitamin D. There were no statistical differences in mean energy and macronutrient intake between the FoodApp and 24-HDR, and this agreement was confirmed by Bland–Altman plots. Spearman's correlation analyses showed strong to moderate correlations (r = 0.834 ∼ 0.386) between the two methods. Participants’ nutrient intake tended to be lower than the DRI, but no differences in proportions of adequacy/inadequacy for DRI values were observed between the two methods. Conclusions: Mitigating errors significantly improved the accuracy of the Formosa FoodApp, indicating its validity and reliability as a self-reporting mobile-based dietary assessment tool.
