Providing robust prognosis predictions for cancers with limited data samples remains a challenge for precision oncology. In this study, we propose a novel approach that combines multi-task learning (MTL) and graph neural networks (GNNs) to address this issue. By representing gene-gene interactions as a graph network, our approach leverages multi-task learning to effectively capture the relationships of genes relevant to the oncogenesis and progression of breast, lung, and colon cancer. We demonstrate that our approach improves the cancer prognosis prediction for cancers with fewer samples, such as colon adenocarcinoma, by leveraging the shared gene-gene interactions across different cancer types, obtaining increases in the area under the precision-recall curve (AUPRC) of 24%. Our work contributes to the field of smart healthcare by demonstrating the potential of MTL and GNNs for enhancing cancer prognosis prediction, even with limited data samples.

Microsatellite instability (MSI) is a pivotal genetic marker influencing the efficacy of immunotherapy in colorectal cancer. Traditional MSI examination often requires additional genetic or immunohistochemical tests, whereas histology images, widely available in colorectal cancer diagnosis, offer a valuable alternative for MSI prediction. Although Transformer-based models have demonstrated promising outcomes in predicting MSI from histology images, they are hampered by traditional local attention mechanisms that struggle to capture long-range interdependencies and establish a comprehensive global receptive field. In this study, we introduce DiNAT-MSI, a novel framework for histology-based MSI prediction that incorporates the Dilated Neighborhood Attention Transformer (DiNAT). This model enhances global context recognition and substantially expands receptive fields, all without additional computational burden. Our results demonstrate that DiNAT-MSI achieves a superior patientwise AUROC compared to ResNet18 and Swin Transformer, along with commendable explainability. Our work not only illustrates a more accessible diagnostic tool for leveraging histological data but also underscores the potential of Transformerbased models with sophisticated attention designs in advancing precision medicine for colorectal cancer patients. © 2024 IEEE.

The process of using ICT to provide services to the public is known as the Indonesian e-Government system, or Sistem Pemerintahan Berbasis Elektronik (SPBE). The e-Government initiative in Jakarta Provincial health Office involves enhancing collaboration among public health entities for efficient data exchange and streamlined processes, especially between the Provincial and District health Offices, public hospitals, government clinics, and primary health care centers (Puskesmas). Achieving interoperability requires standardized protocols and a well-defined architectural model to integrate data seamlessly. This study presents a provincial-level architectural model focused on improving electronic health records interoperability, aiming to promote the adoption of the national Fast healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) health information exchange platform and enhance the integrity of health data in Jakarta. The study methodology involves conducting literature reviews, observations, and discussions with representatives from healthcare facilities to develop the e-Government architecture model and prototype of the infrastructure layer aiming to facilitate the interoperability of Electronic health Records (EHRs) across 93 healthcare facilities, all of which are part of the SPBE users.

Purpose: Co^a and Co^b antigens of the Colton (CO) blood group system are implicated in acute and delayed hemolytic transfusion reactions (HTRs). Owing to the inadequate supply of specific antiserum, data on CO phenotypes remain limited. This study aimed to develop genotyping methods to predict Co^a and Co^b antigens and to estimate transfusion-induced alloimmunization risks in three Thai blood donor populations. Materials and Methods: The study included 2451 blood samples from unrelated healthy Thai blood donors obtained from central, northern, and southern Thailand. DNA sequencing was used to determine the CO*A and CO*B alleles. In-house PCR with sequence-specific primers (PCR-SSP) and high-resolution melting curve (HRM) assays were performed and genotyping results were compared using DNA sequencing. CO*A and CO*B allele frequencies among Thais were determined using PCR-SSP and their frequencies were compared with other populations. The risks of Co^a and Co^b transfusion-induced alloimmunization among Thai donor populations were calculated. Results: The validated genotyping results by PCR-SSP and HRM assays agreed with DNA sequencing. The CO*A/CO*A was the most common (100.0, 100.0, and 99.3%), followed by CO*A/CO*B (0.0, 0.0, and 0.7%) among central, northern and southern Thais. Homozygous CO*B/CO*B was not found. The CO*A and CO*B allele frequencies among central Thais significantly differed compared among southern Thais (p < 0.01) but not among northern Thais. Those allele frequencies among Thais were similar to those of Taiwanese, Chinese and Malay-Malaysian populations but not to South Asian, Southeast Asian, Korean, Japanese, Filipino, French Basque, and Maltese populations (p < 0.01). Studies have evaluated the impact of environmental exposure to neurotoxic metals on developmental delays (DDs). However, comprehensive understanding regarding the associations between parental and postnatal exposure to metal mixtures and the occurrence of DDs in offspring is limited. In this study, we assessed the relationships between parental and postnatal exposure to three metals (arsenic [As], cadmium [Cd], and lead [Pb], levels of which were measured in toenails) and suspected DDs (SDDs) in preschool children within a Taiwanese longitudinal birth cohort. In total between 2017 and 2021, 154 pairs of parents and their children under the age of 6 years were recruited, and 462 toenail samples and 154 completed questionnaires were collected. Metal concentrations in toenails were quantified using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry after acid digestion of the toenails. We applied multivariable logistic regression and Bayesian kernel machine regression to evaluate the overall effect and to identify key components of the metal mixture that were associated with the SDD risk. Higher concentrations of As, Cd, and Pb were found in the toenails of the parents of children with SDDs compared with the toenails of the parents of children without SDDs. Our examination of the combined effects of exposure to the metal mixture revealed that As concentration in the father’s toenail and Cd concentration in the mother’s toenail were positively correlated with the risk of SDDs in their offspring. Notably, the effect of exposure to the metal mixture on the risk of SDDs was stronger in boys than in girls. Our findings suggest that parents taking measures to minimize their exposure to metals might enhance their children’s developmental outcomes. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

This study aimed to explore the experiences of community-dwelling older adults by piloting a smartphone-based, occupation-focused distance exchange program. The program was conducted over 8 weeks, via the use of smartphones and consisted of remote and three face-to-face sessions, in which older adults and university students interacted in pairs. The first half of the program focused on the use of smartphones, while the second half of the interaction focused on occupation. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 community-dwelling older adults after the program, and data were analyzed using the KJ method. Our study found that the total number of labels was 102, through which six categories were extracted: "participation with positive motivation," "change in daily living performance triggered by COPM," "acquisition of knowledge of smartphone use," "expansion of smartphone use," "things to do with smartphones," and "benefits and challenges of this program." Extant literature had identified multiple issues which served as impediments to older adults acquiring smartphone proficiency. Through our program, we delivered lectures on practical ways to use smartphones that met the needs of individual older adults. We were able to demonstrate an increase in smartphone usage among older adults through our program. In addition, the benefits of this program were formulated by incorporating the impact of intergenerational interactions involving university students and older adults. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

City policies and plans play an important role in promoting physical activity through changes in the urban design and transportation systems. The objectives of this study were to describe longitudinal changes in the built environment relevant to leisure-time physical activity and active travel in Sao Paulo city, Brazil, between 2015 and 2020;to describe these changes according to regions of the city, census tracts’ income, and buffer zones around the residences of participants in a cohort. Using data from public online libraries, cross-checked with the specific municipal and state secretariats, the following were measured: public squares, parks, sports facilities, community clubs, outdoor gyms, bike paths, train or subway stations, bus terminals, and primary health care units. To quantify these attributes around the residences, four different buffers: 500 m and 1000 m radial buffers and 500 m and 1000 m network buffers were adopted. An increase was observed in outdoor gyms (+109.6%), bike paths (+67.7%), train or subway stations, bus terminals (+15.4%), sports facilities (+12.0%), and public squares (+8.7%). However, the changes differed according to the region, census tract income, and residential area. The results can serve to foster a discussion on the effects of local policies being executed. In addition, this study highlights important disparities in cities through the different levels evaluated. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Badminton is a very popular subject in Physical Education (PE). Many students enroll badminton courses in every semester which pose a tremendous teaching load to the instructors. The one-on-one guiding/feedback time provided by the instructor to each student is also greatly reduced. To overcome this challenge, some studies have tried to adopt pose recognition technique in teaching badminton. However, the lack of mobility and recognition accuracy problems hinder its applicability. To address this issue, a new pose recognition technique, OpenPose, was employed to develop a real-time pose recognition badminton teaching APP in this study. The APP was then installed on a mobile device to enhance badminton smash skill learning performance. The scores distribution of the experimental group shows majority of students achieved satisfactory performance, this implies the badminton teaching APP is helpful to all students no matter what their initial skill levels are. © 2021 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Computerized panoramic dental X-ray imaging technology uses information recorded from dental treatment history. Teeth are considered a biometric tool to identify people in cases where their bodies have been severely affected, such as to distinguish victims of disasters and fire accidents. In cases where evidence such as DNA, fingerprints, and iris cannot be examined, gender identification is an important factor in establishing personal identity. Tooth enamel is the strongest material in the human body. Resistant to burns from temperature up to 500 degrees Celsius. And the jawbone is the part that is the strongest and most durable. Including showing high levels of gender differences gender. Additionally, the jawbone is the strongest and most durable part of the human body, exhibiting high levels of gender differences. These characteristics of the teeth form the basis for this research. Using medical technology, panoramic dental X-rays taken from living individuals' dental records can determine gender when compared with post-mortem panoramic dental X-rays used as a database to compare traces of events involving lawsuits. Consequently, this guideline is for verifying personal identity by identifying gender from computerized panoramic dental X-rays. For this reason, this study aims to measuring inter-canine distance and finding the ratio of crown width to root length on computerized panoramic dental X-rays in males and females using the Image J program and analyzing with the GraphPad Prism 8 program. The results showed that the average ratio of crown width to root length was higher in males than in females, and inter-canine distance was greater in males than in females. These results emphasize the critical role of panoramic dental X-rays and image processing in biomedical engineering for accurate gender identification.
