Expert-based text mining with Delphi method for crude oil price prediction

As crude is one of the most important commodities, the crude price forecasting has continuously been a centre of interest. The traditional techniques are focusing on econometric models which could not cope with the short term abnormality. Text data mining from news articles could be an effective method to predict the crude oil price variation caused by irregularities, but, the main issues in text mining originate from the particularities of natural language. In this research, the expert-based Delphi text mining (EDTM) is proposed to predict the movement of crude prices when the irregularity occurs. We employ the hierarchical clustering algorithm to reveal implicit knowledge hidden in news streams. Next, the Delphi method is introduced to give weighted ratings for different corresponding events extracted from the news. Finally, a comprehensive experiment is illustrated to show the effectiveness. ©2017 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

KAGRA, the underground and cryogenic gravitational-wave detector, was operated for its solo observation from February 25 to March 10, 2020, and its first joint observation with the GEO 600 detector from April 7 to April 21, 2020 (O3GK). This study presents an overview of the input optics systems of the KAGRA detector, which consist of various optical systems, such as a laser source, its intensity and frequency stabilization systems, modulators, a Faraday isolator, mode-matching telescopes, and a high-power beam dump. These optics were successfully delivered to the KAGRA interferometer and operated stably during the observations. The laser frequency noise was observed to limit the detector sensitivity above a few kilohertz, whereas the laser intensity did not significantly limit the detector sensitivity.

Risks are potential to be incurred in the supply chain *** risk management is indispensable for handling therisk. The research was carried out in the CV. Multiguna in Krikilan, Sariharjo, ngaglik, Sleman, Yogyakarta, 55581. In the process of the supply chain at CV. Multiguna had chances onset of ***, it is necessary to identify risks and design mitigation. This research was conducted using fuzzy logic approach, house of risk and AHP. House of risk model consists of two phases. The first phase covers risk identification and risk agents. The calculation of the value of aggregate risk on ARP priority is done by using fuzzy logic approach to measure the severity and occurrence. From the interviews and discussions that resulted in supply chain activity at CV. Multiguna, there are 18 events and 16 identified agent risks and relevant risks. Pareto diagram of the results obtained 5 selected risk agents with ratio of 60:40 in order to focus on risk mitigation actions. After conducting discussions and interviews, it was obtained 10 preventive actions as the input value for house of risk phase 2. The mapping from House of risk phase 2 resulted10 mitigation options, according to the value of ETD (effectiveness to difficulty). Then, the 10 mitigation options are reprocessed using the AHP. AHP is used to determine priorities based on preference of policy’s makers with some criteria. From AHP processing, it was obtained the consistency value as 0.09 and this value was considered valid for CR <0.1. Alternative complement negotiation for supporting the infrastructure was elected as the first priority with a value of 0.160, mitigation alternative treatments was followed by the regular machine maintenance with a value of 0.143 and eight other alternatives are ordered from large to small.

A system for automatic detection of road damages is essential for logistics management. At the core of the system lies an algorithm for classification of damages. This work intends to establish such an algorithm. In the current proposal, the algorithm receives data of the probe vehicle rate of rotations, extracts statistics descriptive from the data to produce a feature vector, and finally, feeds the vector to a simple-three-layer neural network to classify the damages. The types of damages are limited to four cases: normal, pothole, speed bump, and expansion joint. For the development, a probe vehicle is used to produce 400 empirical data involving those four damage cases. By using Monte Carlo approach, the established neural network model is evaluated. The results show that the approach is able to classify the cases with 85% accuracy. The study also finds that the rates of pitch and roll to be the determining factors.

The study of the effects of exchange rate volatility has still attracted the attention among economist, especially international economist. Because, if the exchange rate is unpredictable, it makes uncertainty about the profits to be gained, so this conditions may diminish the gain from international trade. In addition, some empirical literature provides various findings, where the exchange rate volatility has a positive effect on exports and can also negatively effect on exports. This paper wants to provide empirical evidence on both of these. It uses panel data involving five ASEAN countries with a period of 2000 – 2016. We also apply some analysis in panel data, such as the pooled least squares method, the fixed effect method, and the random effect method. The findings show that the exchange rate volatility has negative impact on exports. This paper suggests that each of central bank should pursue sustainable and stable exchange rate policy measures to promote greater exchange rate stability that would help to enhance the real exports of the economy.

The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the effect of direct and indirect implementation of Green Supply-Chain management (GSCM) on the Performance Marketing and Competitiveness Mediation Paper Company in West Java province. Object This research is the paper company that existed in West Java Province, which amounts to 30 companies as well as a sample of research, while variables studied are Variable Green Supply- Chain management, Company Competitiveness Variable and Variable of Paper Marketing Industry Performance in West Java Province. The method used SEM with Variance Based or Component Based with Software used is SmartPLS 3.0. On this research are identified that no effect of Competitiveness on Marketing Performance in Paper Companies in West Java Province.

Computed tomography (CT) examinations are commonly used to predict lung nodule malignancy in patients, which are shown to improve noninvasive early diagnosis of lung cancer. It remains challenging for computational approaches to achieve performance comparable to experienced radiologists. Here we present NoduleX, a systematic approach to predict lung nodule malignancy from CT data, based on deep learning convolutional neural networks (CNN). For training and validation, we analyze >1000 lung nodules in images from the LIDC/IDRI cohort. All nodules were identified and classified by four experienced thoracic radiologists who participated in the LIDC project. NoduleX achieves high accuracy for nodule malignancy classification, with an AUC of ~0.99. This is commensurate with the analysis of the dataset by experienced radiologists. Our approach, NoduleX, provides an effective framework for highly accurate nodule malignancy prediction with the model trained on a large patient population. An effect of tsunami to hotel occupancy: A case of Phuket, Thailand

As a popular city for global tourists, more than one third of the Phuket GPP depends on the hotel and restaurant sector. The 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami caused a serious physical damage to hotels and a high cancellation of bookings in the post disaster period, which, in turn, led to most THB 3 billion drop of the hotel and restaurant sector income in 2005 in Phuket. In addition, many tourism facilities in Phuket suffered bankruptcy or a slump, because they started their business again immediately after the reconstruction phase, while tourists did not really come back. This paper is an initiative study of our research project to evaluate the effects of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami on Hotel Occupancy, with a focus on the speed for the physical reconstruction and tourism market recovery. We collected the physical reconstruction period and the hotel occupancy recovery data of six hotels that located in the Patong Beach of Phuket from 2003 to 2017. Through calculation, the average of damage rate (i.e., unavailability of the rooms in this study) is 55.89%, with an average speed for the physical reconstruction to rebuild the rooms about 6.07% of the overall rooms per month. The quotient of these two values indicates that the reconstruction period is around 9.2 months. However, the average period for reconstruction and tourism recovery is about 20 months. There is an about 11 months' delay between that hotel and resorts have finished the reconstruction and the tourists start to visit Phuket as usual. Therefore, the local government, local tourist authority, and hotel entrepreneurs can consider these findings in order to prepare the recovery plan for tourism industry in the future tsunami.

The recognition of Intellectual Capital as a source of competitive advantage and differentiation element for organizations requires an application of new management strategies that include this feature. Considering the importance of the Accounting Information System (AIS) in organizations, the research has the main objective to investigate the contributions of accounting as management Information System in management of Intellectual Capital in an organization. Therefore, it was adopted a single case study as research strategy, applied in a Brazilian industry of consumption goods, on the market for over 85 years. The results obtained in the documentary analysis, questionnaires, interviews and literature show that the Accounting management Information System (AMIS) contributes to the management of Intellectual Capital. In the investigated organization, AMIS is widely used and shows similarities with the specifications found in the literature, possessing the ability of adaptation to receive indicators or variables that enable the management of Intellectual Capital. It was found that the incorporation of the variables of Intellectual Capital in AMIS could be accomplished by adopting the method proposed by López-Ruiz and Nevado-Pena, that uses both traditional financial indicators and indicators of Intellectual Capital, not conflicting with the traditional AMIS, but complementing it. Inserting variables of Intellectual Capital in AMIS also allows uniformity of understanding on the subject by all company managers. © 2016 IEEE.

Implementing ERP may become one of the strategies to enhance both management competence and competitiveness of small-medium enterprises (SMEs) in fashion industry. For an ERP implementation to be effective in and financially efficient, required ERP modules should be identified in accordance with business processes that are carried out and validated according to the real needs of fashion SMEs. The validation processes are crucial to perform so as to avoid building an information system unsuitable with the company needs and to save resources that otherwise would be spent to fix any faults discovered in further stages in the planning and implementation processes of an ERP. The purpose of the research was to validate the findings of an earlier research that had identified fashion SMEs' need of ERP system. The validation was performed by using a multiple case studies method, carried out in six micro, small, and medium enterprises of fashion in Bandung by identifying what were the functional aspects of system that have been needed and implemented by the objects of the case study, both those involved in earlier researches and beyond the objects of earlier researches' case studies. From this validation process, it was found that both product marketing and sales module and financial and accounting module were valued as valid for the three enterprise levels. For small and medium fashion enterprises, production and procurement module has also been concluded as valid. Meanwhile, the need of retail management module was determined as valid for the three levels of fashion enterprises, but it was determined as an add-on module because the needs do not depended on the company size but on the company's choice of its retail selling methods.
