Organizations are influenced by external demands which can be represented by changes on the markets organizations are part of. Companies are operating on a new context, where the importance of sustainability has been highlighted by events such as environmental problems, social responsibility issues and quality assurance of products and services. Those aspects are represented by the areas of the Triple Bottom-Line (3BL), which treat organizations operational performance on economic, environmental and social aspects. However, organizations are still trying to develop new performance measurement systems, which relate to the 3BL and that can be used for sustainable performance assessment and benchmarking. In order to address this need, this research aims to develop a process that enables standards and guidelines to be used as tools for the establishment of a performance measurement system which can address the needs of integrated management on behalf of sustainability aspects. The method used on the development of this article is based on concepts of the Process Approach methodology from Cambridge University, as well as Business Process Management Notation to represent processes for performance assessment. Those processes were built with a high emphasis on Performance Assessment frameworks and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) theories. The processes generated have been applied in a project of innovation in sustainable management, in which its application enabled to work with requirements from various standards and guidelines in a practical context, through the usage of indicators and performance measurement. Exemplifying the application of this process, the article will aim to clarify the usage of indicators based on standards and guidelines as a tool for sustainability assessment, through an integrated management of an organization set of standards and guidelines.

The humans have the natural ability of following objects with the head and eyes and identify the relationship between those objects. This daily activity represents a challenge for computer vision systems. The procedure to identify the relationship between human eye gaze and the trackable objects is complex and demands several details. In this current paper we proposed a review of the main gazing following methods, identified the respective performance of them and also proposed an AI based method to estimate the gaze from 2D images based on head pose estimation. The main important details to be recovered from images are scene depth, head position and alignment and ocular rotation. In this approach we perform a track estimation of the gaze direction without the use of the eye position, and also, the face partial occlusion is considered in the analysis. The proposed approach allows low cost in processing with considerable accuracy at low complexity sceneries, because we don’t need to extract the facial features. Gaze tracking is important to evaluate employees’ attention to specific tasks in order to prevent accidents and improve work quality. The presented method improves the current knowing workflow by applying the head pose estimation instead face detection for training and inference. The promisors results are presented and open points are also discussed. © 2020, IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

Industry 4.0 is creating a radically more dynamic work environment, which calls for considerable changes in the role of industry professionals. As industries need to respond to evolving trends quickly, as well professionals need to be able to work and constantly learning in this new work environment. Besides, due to the continuous advances in technology and the adoption of these technologies in the industries processes, the level of complexity in the workplace is increasing, which results in the need for a new professional role. However, the main challenge is how to prepare and qualify these professionals to acquire these competences. In order to provide a better understanding of the new professional role and their relationship with the industry 4.0 working environment, this paper introduces an ontology for Competence Management in the Fourth industrial Revolution. Considering the recent scientific and business developments for preparing the industries and workers for this new working era, competences and skills needed for professionals in industry 4.0 were reviewed, as well as challenges and opportunities. Based on a systematic literature review in scientific sources and grey literature, this work identified what technologies are being adopted and what the professional competences are for working in this working environment. Since Industry 4.0 is spreading all over the world, this study contributes to this understanding and also provides a starting point for further research regarding workforce competence management for Industry 4.0. © 2020, The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Radio frequency energy harvesting has attracted considerable interest as a technique of enabling self-powered wireless networks. This technique faces several challenges, such as the receiving and the rectifying modules of a rectenna system. Multiband antennas provide several comparative advantages against the goal of maximizing the amount of energy harvesting. In this work, we present a multiband microstrip patch antenna with three slits operating in the LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) and the cellular (GSM-1800 and UMTS) communication frequency bands. A feasible solution of the antenna is obtained by the application of a recently introduced nature-inspired optimization technique, namely the Coyote Optimization Algorithm. The proposed antenna operates satisfactorily in the LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) and the cellular (GSM-1800 and UMTS) communication frequency bands. Measured results of the proposed antenna exhibit an acceptable performance (multiband frequency operation, maximum gain of 3.94 dBi, broadside operation) and demonstrate features of operation, which make it a strong candidate for various RF energy harvesting applications. © 2020 IEEE.

Within unmanned aerial vehicles on-going research topics, automatic target recognition is acquiring relevance. This is due to the easiness with which it is possible to acquire such devices. In order to do this, signal processing and classification techniques could be adopted. Also, in order to improve the classification ratio, optimization techniques could be used. This subject is object of study for many researchers, but the authors worry about the lack of information while using single-objective optimization techniques. The proposed work comprises the application of multi-objective optimization design in order to create an automatic target recognition system to discriminate different types of unmanned aerial vehicles. In order to accomplish this, a K-band radar system is used to send and receive electromagnetic signals, which are then processed with feature extraction techniques, and finally, applied on an artificial neural network system. In order to improve the system's classification ratio, the classifier is defined as a multi-objective problem, and evolutionary multi-objective optimization techniques are applied. Finally, in order to select the best possible trade-off, the level diagrams multi-criteria decision making methodology is used to compare different solutions. © 2017

This study aims to provide subsidy for construction entrepreneurs in the implementation of a Health and Safety Work (HSW) Management plan based on OSHAS 18001 specifications [1], the guidelines of ILO Brazil (International Labor Organization) and other legislations related to workers health and safety. The method presented here was based on national and international publications about management methods, identifying the requirements of HSW legislation and how can organizations define a schedule to implement its management. As a methodology, explanatory research was used, aiming to develop, explain and modify concepts and ideas, considering more precise problem formulations or researchable hypothesis for further studies and descriptive research, where facts are observed, registered, analyzed, classified and interpreted. The integration of a quality management system, environment, health and safety at work legislation is a reality in Brazil and a global tendency that if applied effectively in companies' daily operations, can result in continuous improvement of entrepreneurial development and satisfaction of the parts interested.

Nonprofit organizations have specific and complex characteristics that influence their performance measurement and differentiate it from others business models. So, it is important to know what are the factors, as motivations, barriers, and drivers, that influence the design of a performance measurement system to develop a complete system with all organizational issues, as social aspects, accountability, and legitimacy. A systematic literature review was previously performed and a set of factors that influence the design of performance measurement system for nonprofit organizations were identified. This paper presents a case study conducted in a Fire Department in the United States with the purpose investigate the set of factors in the practice. The data were collected using four techniques: interviews, documents and archival records, and observation. The findings show that the influence of the factors can vary depending on the type of organization and the paper indicates some reasons for that. Therefore, understanding the organization and these factors is a challenge for the performance measurement area to provide tools and frameworks that contribute to the organizational management and research area advance.

Considering Industry 4.0 context, Digital Manufacturing (DM) stands out by combining conventional manufacturing technologies with digital techniques for modeling and analyzing the production system. Basically, its main goal is to assist product lifecycle management and to enable the development, through improvements and maturity evolution, of all aspects related to factory and product design. It is noticed there is a significant amount of information related to DM concepts and technologies, however its implementation process is not widely framed. This paper aims to propose a set of critical success factors (CSF) for DM implementation. For mapping CSF it is applied a research strategy based on academic literature review and consulting reports. Therefore, interviews were conducted for assessing digital manufacturing CSF influences in automotive assembly factory. The main result is a conceptual framework to assist organizations in developing a strategy for DM implementation, and map for that purpose all the required resources and capabilities. This research contributes for updating digital manufacturing CSF discussion in the new context of Industry 4.0 and it provides a guide to check the organizational readiness for DM.

The scope of this research is delimited by the study of not-for-profit organizations performance through operations management lens. According to a systematic literature review, the performance measurement frameworks applied to not-for-profit organizations are adaptations of models developed for for-profit companies. However, the specific characteristics related to participatory governance, responsibility to declare their tangible and intangible results, and accountability of different revenue sources that combine donations, governmental aids, volunteering or public financing are usually not properly considered. In this context, this paper intends to identify factors that intervene in not-for-profit organizations' performance measurement systems, and to organize them in a conceptual framework that could assist not-for-profit organizations to better design their performance measurement systems. The paper also analyzes how enterprise engineering design principles can be applied in this context, relating the intervening factors to enterprise engineering guidelines. © 2016 Proceedings of the 2016 industrial and systems engineering Research Conference, ISERC 2016. In order to improve equipment efficiency in terms of performance, energy consumption and degradation for example, the industry has increased the use of control systems as the PID (proportional-integral-derivative) to a new baseline. This structure has few parameters to adjust and it is easy to implement practically. However, there are some requirements often included on multivariable systems that cannot be solved concurrently by classical methods. To solve this problem, the current paper approaches the application of Multiobjective Differential Evolution (MODE), Multiobjective Harmony Search (MOHS) and Multiobjective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) on multivariable PID controllers tuning. Moreover, an improved version of MOPSO (I-MOPSO) is proposed and its performance is compared with the other algorithms. In order to validate it under control systems, the optimization technique is applied on a two degree of freedom robotic manipulator. Finally, a detailed analysis is made on the I-MOPSO achievements. © 2014 IEEE.
