The ability of robots to listen to several things at once with their own 'ears', that is, robot audition, is an important factor in improving interaction and symbiosis between humans and robots. The critical issue in robot audition is real-time processing and robustness against noisy environments with high flexibility to support various kinds of robots and hardware configurations. This paper first overviews activities and issues related to robot audition. Then, it presents the 'HARK' robot audition software, which provides three primary functions for robot audition, sound source localization, sound source separation, and separated sound recognition, and then reports their performance. Finally, it discusses future directions in new promising areas as well as robotics. © 2015 IEEE.

It is proposed in this session that the interactivity necessary in ubiquitous learning can be enhanced by the virtual tutor who mediates between the learner and the e-Learning contents. Arousing students' intellectual curiosity and raising their motivation to learn are the two great goals for e-Learning contents developers. It is supposed that the interaction in the communication between the teacher and his/her students in a regular classroom can be maintained in e-Learning with the help of Virtual Tutor, which appears on the learning contents in a timely fashion to give learners advice, encouragement, reminders, and such. The session includes discussions to develop such a system making use of the most updated technology as well as demonstrations of such a system which has been experimented at Department of Media informatics. It is proved that the learning environment where human interactivity is essential can be reconstructed in terms of the proposed Virtual Tutor. This paper presentation includes demonstrations of QED as well as a discussion of the importance of interactivity in ubiquitous e-Learning. © 2008 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a Machine Learning based approach to identify the Niche stage in Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games during their usage lifecycle. The Niche stage is the last stage of the lifecycle and represents a risky situation, because its rentable usage may end soon, as the engagement of the new players are dropping. This paper is related to identifying risky situations based on the players' commitment. Commitment is a measure that i l - lustrates the players' engagement to a game. Our approach consists in evaluating how different ensemble's configurations can affect the Niche identification. We support that the game industry may use the Niche identification to evaluate how attractive a game is. Four different ensemble's configurations are proposed, being each one associated to a research hypothesis that we aim to accept or reject. We applied this approach to a real dataset, which contains three years of usage data from World of Warcraft. We could identify some similarities and differences between all the configurations. It was also possible to identify an assumption that the players' behavior tends to be a Niche behavior over time. The results show that the reduced ensemble with entrance requirement is the best configuration, because it has less classifiers than the others and it can capture the changes on players' behaviors over time. Among the different types of digital games, Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) are one of the most popular. Game producers use usage data to compute metrics to analyze their game lifecycles. The most popular is the MAU (Monthly Active Users), which indicates the number of active players in each timestamp. MAU only describes how many players played a game. It cannot show how players are motivated for that game. We support that motivation is a key factor to follow and game producers should be aware of it. In this way, we are proposing in this article a new game independent Key Risk Indicator. The risk indicator is based on commitment and, in our context, can be defined as the attachment of a player to a given game. The game industry may use commitment to evaluate how attractive a game is during its usage lifecycle. A machine learning approach is presented to predict the risk indicator. We applied the method to a real dataset. The proposed approach identified risky situations where the classical approach did not. Currently, the demand for the security of network assets in companies grows dramatically because of several factors, including the growth of the attack surface combined with the variety of connection standards and correlated to the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) related devices and services. This reality is also evident regarding nodes connected to military networks, especially Tactical Edge (TE) devices. Due to the wide variety of equipment connected to the networks (from small sensors to powerful radars) and their possible limitations in resources and transmission means, mainly caused by the terrain and operational conditions, these networks called the Internet of Battle Things (IoBT), also face important security challenges. In this context full of many intentional and unintentional security challenges, this work proposes using blockchain technology as a network access security solution within an in-depth defense concept at three levels: hardware, network, and application. Tests for attacks against the network layer resulted in high resistance rates without consuming significant resources. © 2024 IEEE.

Startups arise in environments of extreme uncertainty, with few resources and the need to scale quickly. In the growth phase, they still need agility, but they tend to concern more with software quality and the development process by having more human and financial resources. Studying the factors that lead startups in the growth phase to seek quality in their processes can help new startups anticipate implementing quality practices. In this paper, we aim to identify how startups adopt quality practices in the growth phase. We carried out a multiple case study with four growth phase startups. We applied qualitative analysis techniques to summarize the findings. The studied startups adopt limited quality practices and are influenced by the development team's maturity level, organizational culture, and experience. Furthermore, they tend to be reactive towards quality, solving the problems when they impact their product, business, customer, or when technical debt can no longer be managed. The findings are relevant to support stabilizing and growing startups to define actions to improve the quality of their processes and products. Besides, they suggest that growth phase startups begin a process of change in the organizational culture concerning quality, adopting the behavior of mature companies as soon as they get more human and financial resources. © 2021 ACM.

Interactive Process Drift Detection (IPDD) is a framework for visual analysis of process drifts. A process drift indicates a change in the process model occurred at some point in time. IPDD firstly generates process models for subparts of the event log using a sliding window approach. Then, it detects the drifts by evaluating similarity metrics calculated between adjacent process models;a difference in some of the metrics indicates a drift. The current implementation of IPDD generates the process models using the directly-follows graph (DFG) and applies two metrics: nodes and edges similarity. The user interface shows the drifts in the process models over time, allowing the user to visually understand the model changes. Also, the user can easily change the hyperparameters for the analysis and verify the results on the interface. The user interface of IPDD allows the user to evaluate the detected drifts by calculating the F-score metric, which is useful when using artificial datasets. The underlying idea is to ease the choice of a "good" value for the hyperparameter configuration, which is critical for almost any drift detection tool. Dialogue systems intend to facilitate the interaction between humans and computers. A key element in a dialogue system is the conceptual model which represents a domain. Folksonomies are very simple forms of knowledge representation which may be used to specify the conceptual model. However, folksonomies by nature have ambiguity. In this paper, we present a method which uses linguistic context for learning folksonomies from task-oriented dialogues. The linguistic context can be useful for reducing ambiguity, for instance, when using the folksonomies for interpreting utterances. Experiments show that the learned folksonomies increase the accuracy of the interpretation compared when not using the contextual information. © 2019, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (***). Data generated across time may not be easily comparable in its original form thus potentially leading to results that may be perceived as unfair to some. We investigate quality assessment of scholarly researchers from their curricula vitae (CVs) for processes such as hiring, promotion, and grant funding. In previous work, we demonstrated that case-based reasoning (CBR) offers advantages as a transparent methodology to assess researcher quality. Its benefits include consistency, transparency, ability to adapt to specific purposes, and ability to provide explanation. The problem we now face is how to preprocess the data from the CVs to compare researchers whose scholarly production is achieved under different conditions, different points in time, and span different career trajectory lengths. We propose strategies to deal with these aspects of time during preprocessing of the data for case representation. We use 1,000 CVs from the Brazilian Lattes database to illustrate. Organizations have been relying on collaboration for productivity improvement and knowledge sharing. The first step to foster collaboration in organizations is to make it explicit. With this aim, the Collaboration Maturity Model (CollabMM) was proposed and evaluated. The lessons learned during model applications in previous work pointed out the need to review both the model and its evaluation instruments. A literature review also showed some improvement opportunities. Therefore, the objective of this work is to develop a roadmap to highlight the main opportunities of evolution in CollabMM. These opportunities will compose our research agenda in this topic and guide future work. © 2011 IEEE.
