In this article, we present the mathematical analysis of the convergence of the linearized Crank–Nicolson Galerkin method for a nonlinear Schrödinger problem related to a domain with a moving boundary. The convergence analysis of the numerical method is carried out for both semidiscrete and fully discrete problems. We establish an optimal error estimate in the L 2 -norm with order O ( τ 2 + h s ) , 2 ≤ s ≤ r , where h is the finite element mesh size, τ is the time step, and r − 1 represents the degree of the finite element polynomial basis. Numerical simulations are provided to confirm the consistency between theoretical and numerical results, validating the method and the order of convergence for different degrees p ≥ 1 of the Lagrange polynomials and also for Hermite polynomials (degree p = 3 ), which form the basis of the approximate solution.

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of methods, techniques, and technologies employed in facial emotion recognition in human-robot interaction (HRI). A total of 124 articles were reviewed, selected based on specific criteria, resulting in 80 relevant studies for analysis. Techniques such as CNNs, Transfer Learning, and ViT stand out for their effectiveness, while approaches like HOG and LBP remain relevant in lowcost scenarios. Widely used datasets, such as FER-2013 and CK+, demonstrate robustness, and hardware solutions range from highperformance setups to accessible options like Google Colab. The study concludes by highlighting the importance of multimodal techniques and the potential of approaches such as ViT and MTL, proposing strategies to overcome variability challenges and adapt to real classroom conditions.

[Background] Emotional Intelligence (EI) can impact Software Engineering (SE) outcomes through improved team communication, conflict resolution, and stress management. SE workers face increasing pressure to develop both technical and interpersonal skills, as modern software development emphasizes collaborative work and complex team interactions. Despite EI’s documented importance in professional practice, SE education continues to prioritize technical knowledge over emotional and social competencies. [Objective] This paper analyzes SE students’ self-perceptions of their EI after a two-month cooperative learning project, using Mayer and Salovey’s four-ability model to examine how students handle emotions in collaborative development. [Method] We conducted a case study with 29 SE students organized into four squads within a project-based learning course, collecting data through questionnaires and focus groups that included brainwriting and sharing circles, then analyzing the data using descriptive statistics and open coding. [Results] Students demonstrated stronger abilities in managing their own emotions compared to interpreting others’ emotional states. Despite limited formal EI training, they developed informal strategies for emotional management, including structured planning and peer support networks, which they connected to improved productivity and conflict resolution. [Conclusion] This study shows how SE students perceive EI in a collaborative learning context and provides evidence-based insights into the important role of emotional competencies in SE education. consexpressionR: an R package for consensus differential gene expression analysis

Motivation: Bulk RNA-Seq is a widely used method for studying gene expression across a variety of contexts. The significance of RNA-Seq studies has grown with the advent of high-throughput sequencing technologies. Computational methods have been developed for each stage of the identification of differentially expressed genes. Nevertheless, there are few studies exploring the association between different types of methods. In this study, we evaluated the impact of the association of methodologies in the results of differential expression analysis. By adopting two data sets with qPCR data (to gold-standard reference), seven methods were implemented and assessed in R packages (EBSeq, edgeR, DESeq2, limma, SAMseq, NOISeq, and Knowseq), which was performed and assessed separately and in association. The results were evaluated considering the adopted qPCR data. Results: Here, we introduce consexpressionR, an R package that automates differential expression analysis using consensus of at least seven methodologies, producing more assertive results with a significant reduction in false positives. The effect of stereochemical constraints on the radius of gyration of folded proteins

Proteins are composed of linear chains of amino acids that fold into complex three-dimensional structures. A general feature of folded proteins is that they are compact with a radius of gyration Rg(N) ∼ Nν that obeys power-law scaling with the number of amino acids N in each protein and ν ∼ 1/3. In this study, we investigate the internal scaling of the radius of gyration Rg(n) versus the chemical separation n between amino acids for all subchains of length n. We show that for globular proteins Rg(n) ∼ nν1,2 with a larger exponent ν1 > 1/3 for small n and a smaller exponent ν2 g(N) ∝ Nν. To describe this scaling behavior for Rg(n), we carry out folding simulations for a series of coarse-grained models for proteins beginning with the freely-jointed and freely-rotating chain models composed of spherical monomers and varying degrees of stereochemical constraints. We show that a minimal model, which coarse-grains amino acids into a single spherical backbone atom and one variable-sized spherical side-chain atom, and enforces bend- and dihedral-angle constraints, can recapitulate Rg(n) for x-ray crystal structures of globular proteins. In addition, this model predicts the correct average packing fraction and size of the hydrophobic core, which are two key physical features that can be used to distinguish between computational 'decoys' and correctly folded proteins in protein design applications. © 2025, CC BY.

HAAQI-Net: A Non-Intrusive Neural Music Audio Quality Assessment Model for Hearing Aids

This paper introduces HAAQI-Net, a non-intrusive music audio quality assessment model for hearing aid users. Unlike traditional methods such as Hearing Aid Audio Quality Index (HAAQI), which requires intrusive reference signal comparisons, HAAQI-Net offers a more accessible and computationally efficient alternative. Leveraging a bidirectional long short-term memory architecture with attention mechanisms and features extracted from a pre-trained BEATs model, it can predict HAAQI scores directly from music audio clips and hearing loss patterns. The experimental results demonstrate that, compared to the traditional HAAQI as the reference, HAAQI-Net achieves a linear correlation coefficient (LCC) of 0.9368, a Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (SRCC) of 0.9486, and a mean squared error (MSE) of 0.0064, while significantly reducing the inference time from 62.52 seconds to 2.54 seconds. Furthermore, a knowledge distillation strategy was applied, reducing the parameters by 75.85% and inference time by 96.46%, while maintaining strong performance (LCC: 0.9071, SRCC: 0.9307, MSE: 0.0091). To expand its capabilities, HAAQI-Net was adapted to predict subjective human scores, mean opinion score (MOS), by fine-tuning. This adaptation significantly improved the prediction accuracy. Furthermore, the robustness of HAAQI-Net was evaluated under varying sound pressure level (SPL) conditions, revealing optimal performance at a reference SPL of 65 dB, with the accuracy gradually decreasing as SPL deviated from this point. The advancements in subjective score prediction, SPL robustness, and computational efficiency position HAAQI-Net as a reliable solution for music audio quality assessment, significantly contributing to the development of efficient and accurate models in audio signal processing and hearing aid technology.

The process mining allows to automatically discover process models from event logs. Those models provide information that allow to make many types of analysis based on models, such as: compliance verification, performance analysis and bottlenecks identification on the business process. The bottlenecks identification is highly relevant for process managers to suggest improvements. Here, the improvement which is interesting is the lead-time reduction. A double hypothesis was made. The first is that lead-time reduction goes through the identification and removal of bottlenecks at the business process. The second is that the focused intervention at the critical path allows to reduce lead-time causing small changes on the current process. The process mining allows, by using model process discovery, to obtain basic statistic information of a business process, as: minimal, maximum and average duration of each activity. The technique PERT/CPM allows to calculate for each activity the weighted average of the expected execution and the critical path. This helps to identify the relevant activity focusing on the bottlenecks of a business process. The experiments show that the method allows to reduce the lead-time of a process and indicate the degree of the resource's commitment in each of the method iterations, in terms of similarity among optimized model and original model. The experiments were conducted over real word "Hospital Billing"and "Sepsis cases"databases. © 2020 IEEE.

Free market stipulated organizations to improve quality and competitiveness. To achieve this improvement, companies had to implement Total Quality Management so that the vision and mission of companies as one of the main competing factors in the free market were achieved. Many companies had problems in measuring and implementing the organizational performance and Total Quality Management because it needed enough budgets so that a system was needed to measure this organizational performance. The objective of this study was (1) to measure the organizational performance, (2) to measure the implementation of Total Quality Management, and (3) to measure the organizational culture by using Knowledge Management System (KMS)-based approach at Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The advantage of this study was to provide the best recommendations for companies. To develop this system, the writers conducted surveys to several MSMEs, invited experts and practitioners to acquire the knowledge, and carried out the literature study to obtain the recommendation about the best organizational culture at MSMEs. This study developed software used to measure the organizational performance, Total Quality Management, and organizational culture is seen from the Knowledge Management System (KMS) principles. Drought propagation in an Andean basin in South America: a spatio-temporal analysis approach with monitoring indices

Drought is a climatic phenomenon that has increased in severity over time. This study analyzed drought spread in the Alto Patía basin (13,047 km2) in South America, applying the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), Vegetation Health Index (VHI), and Streamflow Drought Index (SDI) to assess meteorological, agricultural, and hydrological drought, respectively. Synchronous and asynchronous correlations were estimated, and Wavelet analysis was conducted to verify relationships among drought types. Results show that the lag between drought types varies based on the intensity, temporal continuity, and spatial extent of meteorological drought. A lag of zero months (1–2 months) was observed between meteorological and hydrological drought when moderate (severe) meteorological drought partially (fully) covers the basin. Agricultural drought, however, does not always correspond to meteorological drought during isolated rainfall events. As the first study in Colombia to systematically connect these drought types, this research addresses a gap in understanding how drought impacts progress across systems in regions with complex rainfall patterns. These findings offer critical insights into the interdependencies among drought types, supporting enhanced drought monitoring and early warning systems in similar climatic regions. By identifying specific lags between meteorological and hydrological droughts, this study provides practical guidance for land management, water conservation, and crop planning, offering a foundation for future research on drought resilience strategies.

Trees have been a pillar of our lives not just for human but for all the species living in the earth. Despite of its blessings for our lives, the heaps of problems around forestry have not been solved. One of the major problems in this field is that most of the forest are not been sorted into an organized database. Detailed natural data have never been provided even in famous map applications, Google earth for instance, induced from its difficulty. The forest database has been demanded in many regions as it provides beneficial information for both industrial and environmental aspects. It even helps many divisions such as CG animations to simulate not only a tree itself but also the mountain or the forest as a whole depending on given natural conditions. One of the major solutions to efficiently collect data of the forest is to use the image and 3D data that are acquired from the sky as represented by the method proposed by [Vihervaara et al.2015]. While these algorithms showed the effectiveness to many regions, they only provided solutions to areas that can easily measure from the sky. In addition, these data are not understandable for unspecialized users. As a result, it has been questionable to be used in many areas with more intense natural environment and less technical knowledge such as tropical areas. Summarizing the above, the system which satisfies the usability for both the measuring process and visualization system is required. We propose a novel device and interface, which we named "Musasabi" to create database automatically from the acquired data from our original measuring device and visualize it onto the 2D/3D map. Our unique device enables us to acquire many different data of the forest with easy manipulation that cannot be acquired from long range sensors proposed in previous work.
