Examining topic-level variability in modeling Twitter data can potentially yield more comprehensive insights into public perception during critical periods, thereby enhancing natural disaster mitigation and surveillance efforts. In this study, we utilized generalized linear mixed models (GLMMs) to illustrate the variability in tweet counts related to specific topics in Indonesia during the flood events that occurred in February 2021. The glmmTMB library in R was employed for this purpose. The data were assumed to follow two distinct exponential distributions: Poisson and Negative Binomial. To incorporate random effects, random intercepts and random slopes were introduced, allowing them to vary randomly across topics in the initial two models. Additionally, the final model addressed issues related to dispersion and zero-inflation. By evaluating the Akaike Information Criteria scores, we determined that a model based on the Negative Binomial distribution with random zero-inflation intercepts best fit the data. The chosen model formulation and the estimated parameters have the potential to forecast topic-specific trends in Indonesian flood-related Twitter data. © 2023 The Authors. Segmentation is manually performed by physicians, which takes considerable time and may be subject to observers. Automating this task can increase efficiency and consistency. Existing studies on meningioma segmentation used data from limited study centers, indicating the need for research on multi-center data to assess generalizability. In this work, two semi-automated methods with bounding box priors, LiteMedSAM and BBU-Net, are evaluated on the brain tumor segmentation (BraTS) 2023 meningioma dataset collected from five study-centers. Preprocessing included exclusion of small tumors, z-score normalization, and extraction of slices that contain tumors, generating 25,602 2D axial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. A fine-tuning strategy is adopted for LiteMedSAM while BBU-Net is trained from scratch. The models are evaluated using a five-fold cross-validation, with data split at the case level. Results show that while U-Net models can achieve performance close to LiteMedSAM, the foundation model has overall better performance, with more than 90% in all evaluation scores. © 2024 The Authors.

Pupillometry measures pupil size, and several open-source algorithms are available to analyse pupillometry data. However, only a few studies compared these algorithms’ accuracy and computational resources. This study aims to compare the accuracy of computer vision-based algorithms (Swirski, Starburst, PuRe, ElSe, ExCuSe algorithms) and the machine learning algorithm, DeepLabCut, to the double-blinded human examiners (gold-standard). Training of DeepLabCut with different architectures and a variable number of markers (2-9 markers) was done on an open-source dataset. The duration of training was statistically longer for the ResNet152 model compared to the MobileNet model. The pupil diameters in computer vision-based software such as PuRe, Starburst, and Swirski were statistically different from human measurements. MobileNet 2 and 3 marker models were the closest to the human measurements. In conclusion, this work highlights the efficiency of lower marker models based on MobileNet architecture in DeepLabCut, which consumes fewer computational resources and is more accurate. © 2024 Institute of Information Technology, Warsaw University of Life sciences - SGGW. The testing stage is essential in software development because it determines the quality level, which is indicated by minimal errors. Meanwhile, the error that is discovered by the tester is called a fault. Therefore, this research aims to create a Model-Based Testing (MBT) using the equivalence partitioning technique in the black-box method. The model is expected to log software errors such as Access, performance, initialization, a data structure or external database, incorrect or missing functions, to identify, categorize, and fix them methodically and appropriately. Based on the discoveries, the errors form a dataset that measures the accuracy of the fault output using a neural network algorithm. The result showed the formation of MBT can be developed using the equivalence partitioning technique by measuring the fault output accuracy level using a neural network algorithm, where the average accuracy rate is 80%. © 2022 IEEE.

A wide variety of disciplines contribute to bioinformatics research, including computer science, biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. This study determines the number of research articles published on arXiv classified as bioinformatics topics and the most frequently used bioinformatics terms using topic modeling, Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). An algorithm based on LDA is used to discover topics hidden within large collections of documents through the use of statistical analysis. Our research examined 226453 articles on arXiv between January 2023 and January 2024. As a result, there are more than 10521 articles categorized into bioinformatics topics. Most commonly, 6352 documents are in the "Mathematical Physics" category. The second most popular category is "computer science," with 2950 documents. Accordingly, the terms 'RNA,' 'sequence,' 'tree,' and 'homology' are the three most commonly used terms in bioinformatics. The study of RNA plays a vital role in molecular biology;thus, the study of RNA is prevalent in bioinformatics. Sequential data refer to the order in which nucleotides or amino acids can be found in a DNA molecule or a protein. © 2024 The Authors.

The increasing presence of digital evidence in legal, criminal, and civil cases requires adaptations to traditional chain-of-custody processes to ensure the integrity of this evidence. This work proposes the use of blockchain technology, specifically through Hyperledger Fabric, to strengthen the chain of custody for digital evidence. The developed solution employs smart contracts to immutably record each stage of evidence handling, from collection to transfer of custody, ensuring data authenticity, integrity, and traceability. Our implementation demonstrates that blockchain technology can significantly reduce the risk of evidence tampering, improve process efficiency, and facilitate audits, thereby contributing to greater reliability in the presentation of evidence during judicial proceedings. © 2025 IEEE.

Developing cognitive capabilities in autonomous agents stands as a challenging yet pivotal task. In order to construct cohesive representations and extract meaningful insights from the environment, the brain utilizes patterns from a variety of sensory inputs, including vision and sound. Furthermore, related sensory inputs can activate each other’s representations, highlighting the brain’s ability to associate and integrate information across different sensory channels – key to cognitive development and adaptive learning. Current learning methods often mirror the developmental process of infants, who enhance their cognition through guidance and exploration. These methods often struggle with issues such as catastrophic forgetting and stability-plasticity trade-offs. This study presents a novel brain-inspired hierarchical autonomous framework, Cognitive Deep Self-Organizing Neural Network (CDSN), designed to enable autonomous agents to acquire object concepts dynamically. The architecture includes dual parallel audio-visual information pathways, incorporating three layers based on a Topological Kernel CIM-based Adaptive Resonance Neural Network (TC-ART). The first layer, referred to as the receptive layer, learns and organizes visual attributes and object names autonomously in an unsupervised manner. Subsequently, the second layer, the concept layer, distills clustered results from the corresponding receptive layer to create succinct symbol representation. In a synchronized manner, visual and auditory concepts are combined concurrently in the third layer, the associative layer, to establish real-time associative connections between the modalities. Furthermore, this layer introduces a top-down response approach, allowing agents to independently retrieve associated modalities and adapt acquired knowledge in a hierarchical manner. Traditional recommender systems let users provide a single rating indicating their overall preferences toward items. Beside overall rating, multi-criteria recommender systems let users rate on multiple aspects of items with multi-criteria ratings. Most methods in recommender systems are based on collaborative filtering, which makes recommendations by exploiting ratings from neighbor users. However, most of them ignore the fact that rating behaviors of users vary due to their personal preference biases. Thus, exploiting ratings from neighbors directly might result in a poor recommendation. To solve this, the rating conversion techniques have been applied in some single criterion recommendations. For multi-criteria ratings, converting each criterion rating independently might result in loss of relation among criteria ratings. We propose a novel method that simultaneously converts all criteria ratings between users to maintain their implicit relations. The multi-criteria ratings are first normalized by variances of users and principle component analysis is applied to extract user preference patterns. Such patterns are then used for multi-criteria rating conversion. The experiment results show that our method outperforms both current single and multi-criteria rating conversion techniques with RMSEs of 1.1082 and 3.5574 on TripAdvisor and Yahoo datasets respectively, while maintaining considerably high level of prediction coverages. © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

The volatile behavior of Bitcoin's price, especially during its halving periods, poses considerable obstacles for forecasting and decision-making in cryptocurrency trading. This paper presents a novel method that combines application fuzzy logic with Bollinger Bands to improve trading decision-making in times of high market volatility. This study conducted an experiment utilizing three fuzzy logic controllers and Bollinger Bands (BB) to determine the strength of buy, hold, and sell signals. This dataset includes the initial and final prices that are used to calculate the BB. The raw and computed values serve as the precise input parameters for the Fuzzy Inference System (FIS). The membership functions were categorized into four levels: very low, low, high, and very high, based on the input default settings utilized by traders. Rulesets were created using fuzzy logic to produce signals that indicate the level of strength of a trading advice. This study evaluate the effectiveness of this hybrid method in comparison to the traditional utilization of the Bollinger Band only indicator and Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator, which is widely favored by traders to identify possible market fluctuations. This methodology involves creating a trading simulation that is based on past Bitcoin halving events. The objective is to assess the efficacy of these strategies in managing heightened volatility. The application of fuzzy logic with the Bollinger Bands model yielded a success rate of 92.47% while analyzing 93 daily data points from the previous Bitcoin halving event on May 11, 2020. © 2024 The Authors.

This research investigates the novel application of Dynamic Game Balancing (DGB) techniques in the context of a hybrid chess-survival roguelike game, a unique combination of genres not widely explored in previous studies. The study addresses two primary research questions: the identification of suitable DGB techniques for these genres and the enhancement of user experience through DGB. A game prototype was developed using Unity, where players control a chess knight in a turn-based system, facing increasingly challenging enemy pieces. The DGB system dynamically adjusts the game's difficulty based on player performance, utilizing various inputs such as damage received or dealt, health points, powerup usage, and decision speed. Preliminary results from 14 beta-testers show overall positive feedback, with players reporting higher engagement and enjoyment due to the seamless difficulty adjustments, as reflected by the high mean scores from surveys like the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ). This research fills a gap in the literature by demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of integrating DGB in a chess-survival roguelike setting. These findings highlight the potential for DGB to significantly improve player experience in hybrid game genres, suggesting that its application can create more adaptive and immersive gaming environments in various other genres as well.
