QSO B0218+357 is currently the only gravitationally lensed source from which very-high-energy (VHE, &100GeV) gamma-ray emission has been detected. We report the multiwavelength monitoring observations of this source performed between 2016 and 2020 in radio interferometry, optical, X-ray and gamma-ray bands. During the monitoring individual flares and hints of enhanced states in optical, X-ray and GeV bands have been observed, and the simultaneous data taken by the MAGIC telescopes allow us to search for the VHE gamma-ray emission associated with these events. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)

OT 081 is a luminous blazar well known for its variability in many energy bands. The very-high-energy (VHE;E > 100 GeV) gamma-ray emission from the source was discovered by MAGIC and H.E.S.S. during flaring activity in July 2016, after a trigger from the Large Area Telescope (LAT) onboard the Fermi satellite. By analysing the multiwavelength light curves and the broadband spectral energy distribution (SED), we study the activity of the source and investigate four individual states of activity in the window from MJD 57575 to 57602. The intrinsic gamma-ray spectrum can be described by a power law with spectral indices of 3.27 ± 0.44 (MAGIC) and 3.39 ± 0.58 (H.E.S.S.) over energy ranges 60-300 GeV and 120-500 GeV, respectively. The combined contemporaneous high-energy (HE;E > 100 MeV) through VHE SED shows curvature and can be described by a log-parabola shape. A simple one-zone synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) model is not sufficient to describe the broadband SED. The presence of broad emission lines in the optical spectrum of the source challenges the categorisation of OT 081 as a BL Lac and, together with the emission scenarios tested, points to the possibility that the source is transitional in nature between a BL Lac and a flat-spectrum radio quasar. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

Nowadays major interest in the field of Dynamic Telecytology is growing rapidly. The need of the pathologist to analyze the specimens remotely both hardware and software[1][2]. Therefore, authors are trying to do a study to examine the Quality of Service (QoS) feasibility of the Telecytology system using Wireshark, Essential NetTools and Ping Plotter. This research was conducted in Greater Jakarta, Indonesia. There are 2 (two) systems that will be examined for this research. The first system is the Raspberry Pi 2 and WebCam. The second system is the Android smartphone and Universal Microscope Adapter. The purpose of this study is to prove that the Telecytology system can be implemented by displaying images captured by a microscope and displayed at a remote location with an image resolution, frame rate, delay, latency, jitter, throughput and Mean Opinion Score (MOS) are desired and with the expectations as follow : The minimum of the video image resolution is at least 320 × 240 pixels, the best frame rate is 30 fps, the latency is below 400 ms, the packet loss is below 1%. The value of MOS are between 3 and 4, expected to prove that the system is feasible to be applied on Broadband and 3G/4G network in Indonesia. © 2016 IEEE.

Analyzing and predicting user participations in online health communities: A social support perspective

Background: Online health communities (OHCs) have become a major source of social support for people with health problems. Members of OHCs interact online with similar peers to seek, receive, and provide different types of social support, such as informational support, emotional support, and companionship. As active participations in an OHC are beneficial to both the OHC and its users, it is important to understand factors related to users' participations and predict user churn for user retention efforts. Objective: This study aimed to analyze OHC users' Web-based interactions, reveal which types of social support activities are related to users' participation, and predict whether and when a user will churn from the OHC. Methods: We collected a large-scale dataset from a popular OHC for cancer survivors. We used text mining techniques to decide what kinds of social support each post contained. We illustrated how we built text classifiers for 5 different social support categories: seeking informational support (SIS), providing informational support (PIS), seeking emotional support (SES), providing emotional support (PES), and companionship (COM). We conducted survival analysis to identify types of social support related to users' continued participation. Using supervised machine learning methods, we developed a predictive model for user churn. Results: Users' behaviors to PIS, SES, and COM had hazard ratios significantly lower than 1 (0.948, 0.972, and 0.919, respectively) and were indicative of continued participations in the OHC. The churn prediction model based on social support activities offers accurate predictions on whether and when a user will leave the OHC. Conclusions: Detecting different types of social support activities via text mining contributes to better understanding and prediction of users' participations in an OHC. Legal decision-making support is key for legal security in any legal system. This paper describes a new scope and method for Business Intelligence applied in the legal domain. We describe a legal case processing model based on the transformation of relevant data from a legal case file by a judge, to produce what we call the judge's perception of the case. That is a representation of the case that stresses (1) the relevance of the different attributes of the case, and (2) the relationships among attributes that the judge considers relevant for argumentation purposes. © 2016 IEEE.

Context. Certain types of Supernova remnants (SNRs) in our Galaxy are assumed to be PeVatrons, capable of accelerating cosmic rays (CRs) to ∼ PeV energies. However, conclusive observational evidence for this has not yet been found. The SNR G106.3+2.7, detected at 1–100 TeV energies by different γ-ray facilities, is one of the most promising PeVatron candidates. This SNR has a cometary shape which can be divided into a head and a tail region with different physical conditions. However, it is not identified in which region the 100 TeV emission is produced due to the limited position accuracy and/or angular resolution of existing observational data. Additionally, it remains unclear whether the origin of the γ-ray emission is leptonic or hadronic. Aims. With the better angular resolution provided by these new MAGIC data compared to earlier γ-ray datasets, we aim to reveal the acceleration site of PeV particles and the emission mechanism by resolving the SNR G106.3+2.7 with 0.1◦ resolution at TeV energies. Methods. We observed the SNR G106.3+2.7 using the MAGIC telescopes for 121.7 hours in total after quality cuts, between May 2017 and August 2019. The analysis energy threshold is ∼ 0.2 TeV, and the angular resolution is 0.07–0.1◦. The γ-ray spectra of different parts of the emission are examined, benefiting from the unprecedented statistics and angular resolution at these energies provided by our new data. The measurements at other wavelengths such as radio, X-rays, GeV γ-rays and 10 TeV γ-rays are also used to model the emission mechanism precisely. Results. We detected extended γ-ray emission spatially coincident with the radio continuum emission at the head and tail of SNR G106.3+2.7. The fact that we detected a significant γ-ray emission with energies above 6.0 TeV from the tail region only suggests that the emissions above 10 TeV, detected with air shower experiments (Milagro, HAWC, Tibet ASγ and LHAASO), are emitted only from the SNR tail. Decision making is sometimes faced with a situation where assessment is given in the form of linguistic variables, which have a certain range of values so that decision making cannot be given in the form of numerical values. One approach commonly used is Hesitant Fuzzy Linguistic Term Sets (HFLTS) which is a multi-criteria and multi-alternative decision making method. In TOPSIS which has the concept of distance measurement, basically the chosen one is the best alternative is an alternative that has the closest distance to a positive solution and the farthest distance with a negative solution. The incorporation of HFLTS-TOPSIS has the advantage that decision making can be done in the form of variable linguistics and also a situation where there are benefit criteria and cost criteria. This study will use the HFLTS-TOPSIS approach that has been modified in the distance calculation section so that distance calculation is based on the difference of preference degree between the two HFLTS. The results of research conducted by a number of researchers show that using pseudo-distance will provide advantages compared to the standard HLFTS-TOPSIS. Pseudo-distance HFLTS-TOPSIS will be applied in the selection of the best lecturers. The criteria used in this study are: Student Satisfaction, Research, Number of late, and number of complaints from students.

Axion-like particles (ALPs) are pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons that emerge in various theories beyond the standard model. These particles can interact with high-energy photons in external magnetic fields, influencing the observed gamma-ray spectrum. This study analyzes 41.3 hrs of observational data from the Perseus Galaxy Cluster collected with the MAGIC telescopes. We focused on the spectra the radio galaxy in the center of the cluster: NGC 1275. By modeling the magnetic field surrounding this target, we searched for spectral indications of ALP presence. Despite finding no statistical evidence of ALP signatures, we were able to exclude ALP models in the sub-micro electronvolt range. Our analysis improved upon previous work by calculating the full likelihood and statistical coverage for all considered models across the parameter space. Consequently, we achieved the most stringent limits to date for ALP masses around 50 neV, with cross sections down to gaγ = 3 × 10−12 GeV−1 Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

SIR (susceptible, infectious, removed) epidemic models are commonly used in infectious disease study. These models use systems of differential equations to estimate epidemiological parameters. However, differential equations often suffer from numerical challenges. Here, we proposed simple, effective and robust innovative methods for estimating key infectious disease parameters. Our methods are reformed from the SIR models, by adjusting components of model compartments. We illustrated the methods using the recent large disease outbreaks, Ebola virus disease and Middle East respiratory syndrome Coronavirus.

Massive brane fluctuations, called branons, behave as weakly interacting massive particles, which is one of the most favored class of candidates to fulfill the role of the dark matter (DM), an elusive kind of matter beyond the Standard Model. We present a multi-target search in dwarf spheroidal galaxies for branon DM annihilation signatures with a total exposure of 354 hours with the ground-based gamma-ray telescope system MAGIC. This search led to the most constraining limits on branon DM in the sub-TeV and multi-TeV DM mass range. Our most stringent limit on the thermally-averaged annihilation cross-section (at 95% confidence level) corresponds to 〈σv〉 1.9 × 10−24 cm3s−1 at a branon mass of ∼ 1.5 TeV. © 2024, CC BY-SA.
