This paper proposes a dynamic and decentralized model for coalitional skill games (CSG). The model calculates and exploits the reputation of individuals connected by a network, as an alternative to the usual CSG approaches that require reward analysis for every possible coalition to determine an optimal coalition structure for maximizing the total reward from the community. In this study, we restrict the search space for partnerships to the social neighborhoods of agents so that the social capital is used to reach a near-optimal solution by identifying how reputation can be used to better adapt the network, with the objective of bringing together agents who are more likely to cooperate in successful coalitions. In addition, our model allows a more precise quantifying of the relevance of the agents over time in social coalition formation. Experiments with different initial network topologies show that our approach is significantly better than static networks or structure-based adaptations whenever the initial network does not fit a high degree of interconnectedness, such as in a small-world model. In all the cases, the results are statistically better than current adaptation strategies.

Applying MGAP Modeling to the Hard Real-time Task Allocation on Multiple Heterogeneous Processors Problem

The usage of heterogeneous multicore platforms is appealing for applications, e.g. hard real-time systems, due to the potential reduced energy consumption offered by such platforms. However, the power wall is still a barrier to improving the processor design process due to the power consumption of components. Hard real-time systems are part of life critical environments and reducing the energy consumption on such systems is an onerous and complex process. This paper reassesses the problem of finding assignments of hard real-time tasks among heterogeneous processors taking into account timing constraints and targeting low power consumption. We also propose models based on a well-established literature formulation of the Multilevel Generalized Assignment Problem (MGAP). We tackle the problem from the perspective of different integer programming mathematical formulations and their interplay on the search for optimal solutions. Experimentation shows that using strict schedulability tests as constraints of 0/1 integer linear programming results in faster solvers capable of finding optimum solutions with lower power consumption.

The role of climate can be affected by plants. The weather can accelerate and multiply the existence of various plant pests and diseases, accelerate the growth and development of grass among plants, and encourage the emergence of infection and significant damage to plants. The elements of climate that affect the growth of plants are one of them is rainfall. In this paper, we performed the simulation using the non-parametric penalized spline (PSPLINE) method and studied the effect on rice production in Lampung. It can be concluded that the increasing fluctuation, frequency, and intensity of climate anomalies in the last decade caused by the ENSO phenomenon have an impact on changes in distribution patterns, intensity, and period of the wet season so that the start of the rainy season and the dry season becomes too late. As a result, there is a seasonal shift from normal average conditions that can ultimately have severe implications for food crops. In a nutshell penalized spline gives high accuracy with R 2 = 96.227% and MAPE = 1.62%.

Legal decision-making support is key for legal security in any legal system. This paper describes a new scope and method for Business Intelligence applied in the legal domain. We describe a legal case processing model based on the transformation of relevant data from a legal case file by a judge, to produce what we call the judge's perception of the case. That is a representation of the case that stresses (1) the relevance of the different attributes of the case, and (2) the relationships among attributes that the judge considers relevant for argumentation purposes.

Milky Way dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) are among the best candidates to search for signals of dark matter annihilation with Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes, given their high mass-to-light ratios and the fact that they are free of astrophysical gamma-ray emitting sources. Since 2011, MAGIC has performed a multi-year observation program in search for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) in dSphs. Results on the observations of Segue 1 and Ursa Major II dSphs have already been published and include some of the most stringent upper limits (ULs) on the velocity-averaged cross-section hσannvi of WIMP annihilation from observations of dSphs. In this work, we report on the analyses of 52.1 h of data of Draco dSph and 49.5 h of Coma Berenices dSph observed with the MAGIC telescopes in 2018 and in 2019 respectively. No hint of a signal has been detected from either of these targets and new constraints on the hσannvi of WIMP candidates have been derived. In order to improve the sensitivity of the search and reduce the effect of the systematic uncertainties due to the J-factor estimates, we have combined the data of all dSphs observed with the MAGIC telescopes. Using 354.3 h of dSphs good quality data, 95 % CL ULs on hσannvi have been obtained for 9 annihilation channels. For most of the channels, these results reach values of the order of 10−24 cm3/s at ∼1 TeV and are the most stringent limits obtained with the MAGIC telescopes so far. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. We investigate the physical nature and origin of the gamma-ray emission from the extended source HESS J1841-055 observed at TeV and GeV energies. We observed HESS J1841-055 at TeV energies for a total effective time of 43 hours with the MAGIC telescopes, in 2012 and 2013. Additionally, we analysed the GeV counterpart making use of about 10 years of Fermi-LAT data. Using both Fermi-LAT and MAGIC, we study both the spectral and energy-dependent morphology of the source for almost four decades of energy. The origin of the gamma-ray emission from this region is investigated using multi-waveband information on sources present in this region, suggested to be associated with this unidentified gamma-ray source. We find that the extended emission at GeV-TeV energies is best described by more than one source model. We also perform the first energy-dependent analysis of the HESS J1841-055 region at GeV-TeV. We find that the emission at lower energies comes from a diffuse or extended component, while the major contribution of gamma rays above 1 TeV arises from the southern part of the source. Moreover, we find that a significant curvature is present in the combined observed spectrum of MAGIC and Fermi-LAT. The first multi-wavelength spectral energy distribution of this unidentified source shows that the emission at GeV–TeV energies can be well explained with both leptonic and hadronic models. For the leptonic scenario, bremsstrahlung is the dominant emission compared to inverse Compton. On the other hand, for the hadronic model, gamma-ray resulting from the decay of neutral pions (π0) can explain the observed spectrum. The presence of dense molecular clouds overlapping with HESS J1841-055 makes both bremsstrahlung and π0-decay processes the dominant emission mechanisms for the source. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. The three-dimensional multiple bin packing problem (3D-MBPP) consists of packing a set of items into a number of bins with different dimensions so as to optimize a given objective function, e.g., minimize the number of bins used to pack the items. In this paper, we consider a real world 3D-MBPP with several cargo constraints that arises from an automotive maker. We propose an algorithm that first builds horizontal layers of identical items and then, according to different selection criteria, greedily generates packing patterns by loading one layer at a time. Computational experiments performed on benchmark instances are reported, and the results are compared to those achieved through a well-known constructive heuristic. © 2015, IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control) Hosting by Elsevier Ltd. Background: The three-item Sexual Distress Scale (SDS-3) has been frequently used to assess distress related to sexuality in public health surveys and research on sexual wellbeing. However, its psychometric properties and measurement invariance across cultural, gender and sexual subgroups have not yet been examined. This multinational study aimed to validate the SDS-3 and test its psychometric properties, including measurement invariance across language, country, gender identity, and sexual orientation groups. Methods: We used global survey data from 82,243 individuals (Mean _age=32.39 years;40.3 % men, 57.0 % women, 2.8 % non-binary, and 0.6 % other genders) participating in the International Sexual Survey (ISS;https://***/) across 42 countries and 26 languages. Participants completed the SDS-3, as well as questions regarding sociodemographic characteristics, including gender identity and sexual orientation. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) supported a unidimensional factor structure for the SDS-3, and multi-group CFA (MGCFA) suggested that this factor structure was invariant across countries, languages, gender identities, and sexual orientations. Cronbach's α for the unidimensional score was 0.83 (range between 0.76 and 0.89), and McDonald's ω was 0.84 (range between 0.76 and 0.90). Participants who did not experience sexual problems had significantly lower SDS-3 total scores (M = 2.99;SD=2.54) compared to those who reported sexual problems (M = 5.60;SD=3.00), with a large effect size (Cohen's d = 1.01 [95 % CI=-1.03, -0.98];p < 0.001). Conclusion: The SDS-3 has a unidimensional factor structure and appears to be valid and reliable for measuring sexual distress among individuals from different countries, gender identities, and sexual orientations. © 2024 The Author(s)

MAXI J1820+070 is a low-mass X-ray binary with a black hole as a compact object. This binary underwent an exceptionally bright X-ray outburst from March to October 2018, showing evidence of a non-thermal particle population through its radio emission during this whole period. The combined results of 59.5 hours of observations of the MAXI J1820+070 outburst with the H.E.S.S., MAGIC and VERITAS experiments at energies above 200 GeV are presented, together with Fermi-LAT data between 0.1 and 500 GeV, and multiwavelength observations from radio to X-rays. Gamma-ray emission is not detected from MAXI J1820+070, but the obtained upper limits and the multiwavelength data allow us to put meaningful constraints on the source properties under reasonable assumptions regarding the non-thermal particle population and the jet synchrotron spectrum. In particular, it is possible to show that, if a high-energy gamma-ray emitting region is present during the hard state of the source, its predicted flux should be at most a factor of 20 below the obtained Fermi-LAT upper limits, and closer to them for magnetic fields significantly below equipartition. During the state transitions, under the plausible assumption that electrons are accelerated up to ∼ 500 GeV, the multiwavelength data and the gamma-ray upper limits lead consistently to the conclusion that a potential high-energy and very-high-energy gamma-ray emitting region should be located at a distance from the black hole ranging between 1011 and 1013 cm. Similar outbursts from low-mass X-ray binaries might be detectable in the near future with upcoming instruments such as CTA. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A Multi-level Visualization Scheme for Poetry

This article introduces a multi-level visualization scheme for poetry. In each level, different elements are represented and their attributes are coded in different ways. The first level displays the phonemes in a verse, tracing them back to the written word. The second level shows the poem itself in a metric grid where the verse syllables are placed. The third level shows a set of poems whose verses and syllables can be visually compared. Finally, the fourth level is capable of showing hundreds or thousands of verses at once, turning each verse into a tile whose color indicates a meaningful property. We argue that each level has its strengths and its weaknesses and we evaluate them with our collaborators from the poetry community.
