The library linked data environment promises to meet libraries' needs for agility in content delivery and user engagement on the Web. This project chose BIBFRAME 2.0 to demonstrate the purpose by covering the initial BIBFRAME 2.0 modeling and conversion of the sample bibliographic data in Opera Planet, a collection of opera librettos, scores, videos, sound recordings, streaming media, and so forth. The project also developed a proof-of-concept demo site for linked library data application for content enhancement and visualization using various tools, particularly the MARC to BIBFRAME Transformation Service, RDF Translator, AngularJS 2.0, and external open linked data. © 2016, Published with license by Taylor & Francis.

In this article, we present a circuit solution for sensing and controlling functional electrical stimulation (FES) currents. The objective is to keep both charge balance and residual electrode voltage under a safe limit throughout stimulation. In the proposed circuit, the stimulation current is set through an ultra-low-power charge-redistribution digital-to-analog converter (CR-DAC). Each stimulation pulse is copied by high-ratio current mirror into switched capacitors which integrate the residual direct current (DC) resulting from FES imbalances. As residual electrode voltage may buildup even for perfectly balanced current pulses, alternated cathodic-first and anodic-first stimulation is adopted to complement the charge-balancing mechanism. Simulation results suggest that the circuit is able to keep both residual charge and electrode voltage under safe limits, smaller than 0.05% and 64 mV respectively. © 2015 IEEE.

8-Hydroxyquinoline (8HQ) compounds have been reported to possess diverse bioactivities. In recent years, drug repositioning has gained considerable attention in drug discovery and development. Herein, 8HQ (1) and its derivatives (2-9) bearing various substituents (amino, nitro, cyano and halogen) were investigated for their antimicrobial against 27 microorganisms (agar dilution method) and antioxidant (DPPH method) activities. The parent 8HQ (1) exerted a highly potent antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria including diploid fungi and yeast with MIC values in the range of 3.44-13.78 μM. Moreover, the halogenated 8HQ, especially 7-bromo-8HQ (4) and clioquinol (6), displayed a high antigrowth activity against Gram-negative bacteria compared with the parent compound (1). Apparently, the derivatives with a relatively high safely index, e.g., nitroxoline (2), exhibited strong antibacterial activity against Aeromonas hydrophila (MIC=5.26 μM) and selectively inhibited the growth of P. aeruginosa with the MIC value of 84.14 μM;cloxyquin (3) showed a strong activity against L. monocytogenes and P. shigelloides with MIC values of 5.57 and 11.14 μM, respectively. Most compounds displayed an antioxidant activity. Specifically, 5-amino-8HQ (8) was shown to be the most potent antioxidant (IC₅₀=8.70 μM) compared with the positive control (α-tocopherol) with IC₅₀ of 13.47 μM. The findings reveal that 8HQ derivatives are potential candidates to be further developed as antimicrobial and antioxidant agents. © 2016 The Authors.

This paper proposes a learning model for taking-decision problems using intelligent agents technologies combined with instance-based machine learning techniques. Our learning model is applied to a real case to support the daily decisions of a poultry farmer. The agent of the system is used to generate action policies, in order to control a set of factors in the daily activities, such as food-meat conversion, amount of food to be consumed, time to rest, weight gain, comfort temperature, water and energy to be consumed, etc. The perception of the agent is ensured by a set of sensors scattered by the physical structure of the poultry. The principal role of the agent is to perform a set of actions in a way to consider aspects such as productivity and profitability without compromising bird welfare. Experimental results have shown that, for the decision-taking process in poultry farming, our model is sound, advantageous and can substantially improve the agent actions in comparison with equivalent decision when taken by a human specialist.

Resulting from an interdisciplinary endeavor, the paper proposes an ontological model for supporting collaborative work practices in critical settings, and shows its application to a specific domain. The model is empirically-grounded, as based on ethnographic research carried out at an international airport-clearly an example of safety-critical environment, where emergency prevention and preparedness are crucial. On the other hand, the model leverages on previous ontological work on collaboration and observation in emergency response, and revises it when necessary, thus contributing to its development. Taking hand-baggage screening as an example, the paper shows how the model can be applied, and how it could be used to run model-based simulation in order to better understand collaborative work practices and analyze the impact of different techno-organizational changes on such practices and their effectiveness. This could result in suggesting guidelines for enhancing workflow, security policies and, more generally, time- and safety-critical situations management.

Online Health Communities (OHCs) have become a major source of social support for people with health problems. Using a case study of an OHC among breast cancer survivors, we revealed the types of social support embedded in each post using text mining techniques. Then we aggregated users' activities in different types of social support and identified different roles that users play in an OHC via unsupervised machine learning techniques. By analyzing how users' roles change over time, we constructed a transition graph to illustrate the evolution of users' roles in an OHC. In addition, we discovered that a user's behavior in receiving social support is correlated with the transition of her role. It was revealed that the types social support received by a user may facilitate or delay her role transitioning. Our research has implications for OHC operators to track users' behaviors in order to manage and sustain an OHC.

The development of information and communication technology at this time has touched all sides of life. Almost no side of human life is not touched by this information technology, which is more synonymous with the world of computerization. No exception also with the computerization that is popular in the corporate environment and government agencies. If in ancient times everything was still done manually. However, at this time all leaders and management have realized the importance of this information technology products that can facilitate them in carrying out the day-to-day corporate functions. Decision Making System of goods purchasing is one of the determinants of the accumulation of goods. If the decision is taken right then stockpiling of goods can be avoided. In this thesis the authors designed a web-based system that helps Management in making the decision of the purchase amount of goods. the system was developed by using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and using SQL Server database processing applications. The end result of system design is expected to help minimize the accumulation of goods.

In present, more and more attention has been put on the effort of protection of personal data and also new encryption technologies are derived. In this article, we introduce a personal information protection technology, global unique identifier (GUID), which is developed by National Institutes of Health U.S. and used for personal health information protection. The GUID is an identifier that allows researchers to associate and share data specific to a study participant without using or exposing personally identifiable information (PII). The GUID is made up of random alphanumeric characters and is not directly generated from PII/Protected Health Information (PHI). It has been approved by the NIH/USA office General Counsel for secure sharing of anonymized database. In our study, we used GUID as key identifier for health data collection from aboriginal tribe in a health promotion project. © Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2015.
