Multi-Processors Systems-on-Chip (MPSoCs) are demanding for high performance, low power and high density, and therefore, three-dimensional integrated circuits (3DIC) emerge as a solution to integrate these systems. In order to appropriately interconnect the layers of these systems in terms of flexibility and scalability, a Network-on-Chip (NoC) is typically employed. In this paper, we argue about the scenario of 3D designs, covering all important issues about this new concept. In agreement with all features discussed in this paper, we have proposed a hierarchical 3D topology that meets well the reality of these designs. Experimental results analyze different topologies and show the large benefits in area and power of our proposal. © 2013 IEEE.

Studies with ensemble systems have gained attention recently and, most of them, propose new methods for the design (generation) of different components in these systems. In parallel, new contributions of meta-learning have been presented as an efficient alternative to automatic recommendation of algorithms. In this paper, we apply meta-learning in the process of recommendation of important parameters of ensemble systems, which are: architecture and individual classifiers. The main goal is to provide an efficient way to design ensemble systems. In order to validate the proposed approach, an empirical investigation is conducted, recommending three possible types of ensemble architectures (Bagging, Boosting and Multi-Boosting) and five possible types of learning algorithms to compose the ensemble systems (individual classifiers or components). An initial analysis of the results confirms that meta-learning can be a promising tool to be used in the automatic choice of important parameters in ensemble systems.

Vehicular networks will play an important role in future smart cities. Connected vehicles will be able to provide entertainment content to their users in order to make traffic situations more enjoyable. However, the amount of bandwidth available to the vehicles may not be enough to satisfy all of them. In this case, we can say that a conflict of interest occurred and then must the solved as fair as possible. In this work, we propose a solution to solve this kind of collective conflict. Our solution balances users' satisfaction with resources consumption as it is capable of choosing the most adequate resolution algorithm based on the current application's situation. The results showed that with our solution it was possible to achieve adequate satisfaction levels, with low response time and controlled network usage.

Monitoring the Water Quality in the Recycling Process

Specific water contamination requires the recycling process prior to its discharge into the public sewerage network. Electro-flotation technology was used for cleaning of waste water contaminated with the disperse colorants. Dispersion colorants were used to decorate the boxes, made of corrugated board, in the company for the production of packaging. The objective of this paper is to present a method of optimization to determine the length of the time interval for electro-flotation process. Interval should be set so as to achieve the degree of cleaning the water that is the maximum possible in the process of electro-flotation. The measurement of the light passing through the measuring the translucent tube determines the actual degree of the water purity. The measurement is carried out by means of a photodiode in different wavelengths. The measured values in the measuring tube are compared with the nominal value, which corresponds to pure distilled water. Optimization the time interval to clean the water using electro-flotation was determined for yellow color. The optimum interval for the water contaminated with the yellow color was set to 1800s.

Background: Surveillance of health care-associated infections is an essential component of infection prevention programs, but conventional systems are labor intensive and performance dependent. Objective: To develop an automatic surveillance and classification system for health care-associated bloodstream infection (HABSI), and to evaluate its performance by comparing it with a conventional infection control personnel (ICP)-based surveillance system. Methods: We developed a Web-based system that was integrated into the medical information system of a 2200-bed teaching hospital in Taiwan. The system automatically detects and classifies HABSIs. Results: In this study, the number of computer-detected HABSIs correlated closely with the number of HABSIs detected by ICP by department (n=20;r=.999 P<.001) and by time (n=14;r=.941;P<.001). Compared with reference standards, this system performed excellently with regard to sensitivity (98.16%), specificity (99.96%), positive predictive value (95.81%), and negative predictive value (99.98%). The system enabled decreasing the delay in confirmation of HABSI cases, on average, by 29 days. Conclusions: This system provides reliable and objective HABSI data for quality indicators, improving the delay caused by a conventional surveillance system. © 2020 JMIR Publications Inc. Background: Factors associated with initial methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) skin and soft-tissue infections (SSTIs) and their recurrence have not been fully elucidated among HIV-infected persons. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated a large cohort of HIV-infected patients from 1993 to 2010 for culture-proven MRSA SSTIs. Separate logistic regression models evaluated factors associated with initial and recurrent infections. Results: Of the 794 patients, 63 (8%) developed an initial infection (19.8 infections/1000 person years [PY]);risk factors included CD4 count <500 cells/mm3 and HIV RNA level ≥400 copies/mL (P < .01), US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stage C versus A/B (P < .01), and injection drug use (IDU, P < .01). In all, 27% developed recurrence (206 infections/1000 PY);risk factors included hospital admission (P = .02). Minocycline for treatment of the initial infection was associated with an 80% decreased odds for recurrence (P = .03). Conclusion: HIV control and avoidance of IDU may be useful in reducing rates of MRSA SSTIs among HIV-infected persons. © The Author(s) 2013.

In this paper, we describe the development of a systematic review about the topic "Discovering Frequent Itemsets on Uncertain Data". To the best of our knowledge, this work seems to be the first systematic review addressing the topic. We show the whole process executed and its findings. Initially we define a rigorous protocol to lead the process. In the first phase, we create a systematic mapping of the area. In addition, from the complete reading of each article, a panorama of this area is presented. We reveal the search engines that most publicize this topic and which publishing types, authors and research institutions are involved in these papers. Moreover we identify the algorithms and the classes of these algorithms most compared over the years, how are made these comparisons, as well as their availabilities. Therefore this systematic review becomes a rich material for understanding this knowledge area. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Background: The sustainable development goals (SDGs) aim to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Understanding the current state of the HIV epidemic and its change over time is essential to this effort. This study assesses the current sex-specific HIV burden in 204 countries and territories and measures progress in the control of the epidemic. Methods: To estimate age-specific and sex-specific trends in 48 of 204 countries, we extended the Estimation and Projection Package Age-Sex Model to also implement the spectrum paediatric model. We used this model in cases where age and sex specific HIV-seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care-clinic sentinel surveillance data were available. For the remaining 156 of 204 locations, we developed a cohort-incidence bias adjustment to derive incidence as a function of cause-of-death data from vital registration systems. The incidence was input to a custom Spectrum model. To assess progress, we measured the percentage change in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 (threshold >75% decline), the ratio of incident cases to number of people living with HIV (incidence-to-prevalence ratio threshold <0·03), and the ratio of incident cases to deaths (incidence-to-mortality ratio threshold <1·0). Findings: In 2019, there were 36·8 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 35·1–38·9) people living with HIV worldwide. There were 0·84 males (95% UI 0·78–0·91) per female living with HIV in 2019, 0·99 male infections (0·91–1·10) for every female infection, and 1·02 male deaths (0·95–1·10) per female death. Global progress in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 was driven by sub-Saharan Africa (with a 28·52% decrease in incident cases, 95% UI 19·58–35·43, and a 39·66% decrease in deaths, 36·49–42·36). Elsewhere, the incidence remained stable or increased, whereas deaths generally decreased. In this work a novel resistorless sub-bandgap voltage reference (BGR) is introduced. It is a self-biased and small area topology that works in the nano-ampere current consumption range, and under 1 V of power supply. The analytical behavior of the circuit is described, and simulation results for a standard 0.18 μm CMOS process are analysed. A reference voltage of 479 mV is demonstrated, with a temperature coefficient of 8.79 ppm/°C for the 0 to 125°C range, while the power consumption of the whole circuit is 4.86 nW under a 0.9 V power supply at 27 o C. The estimated silicon area is 0.0012 mm 2 .
