The interactions of charged particles moving paraxially in multi-walled carbon nanotubes may excite electromagnetic modes. This wake effect has recently been proposed as a potential novel method of short-wavelength high-gradient particle acceleration and for obtaining brilliant radiation sources. In this work, the excitation of wakefields in double-walled carbon nanotubes is studied by means of the linearized hydrodynamic theory. General expressions have been derived for the excited longitudinal and transverse wakefields and related to the resonant wavenumbers which can be obtained from the dispersion relation. In the absence of friction, the stopping power of the wakefield driver, modelled here as a charged macroparticle, can be written solely as a function of these resonant wavenumbers. The dependencies of the wakefields on the radii of the double-walled carbon nanotubes and the driving velocity have been studied. Double-walled carbon nanotubes with inter-wall distances much smaller than the internal radius may be a potential option to obtain higher wakefields for particle acceleration compared to single-walled carbon nanotubes. © 2024 The Authors

Study region: The Choushui River Fan, Taiwan. Study focus: Groundwater overdraft has led to not only groundwater depletion but also environmental disasters, such as subsidence and seawater intrusion in the Choushui River Alluvial Fan, Taiwan. The influence of land subsidence is gradually shifting from the coast to the center of the fan and threatening Taiwan high-speed rail. However, it remains a great challenge to manage and model the groundwater aquifer due to numerous unregulated wells. This study maps and locates private wells using deep learning technologies. We trained and validated convolutional-based deep learning neural networks (DNNs), using street view images. We applied the DNNs to a land subsidence area along the Taiwan high-speed rail, termed the Golden Corridor in Taiwan. The results showed that DNNs can recognize pumping wells with at least 90% accuracy. The testing cases showed their capability to recall all the pumping wells in three road segments along the Golden Corridor. Finally, we spatially estimated potential pumping of a subsidence area using the fine-trained DNNs. New hydrological insights for the region: Given the prevalence of unknown private pumping in the Choushui River Fan, our image data-driven computer vision approach not only eases labor-intensive private well investigations but also advances hydrologic understanding for groundwater modeling. We enhance comprehension of unknown sinks and provide their spatial distribution to improve groundwater modeling. © 2023 The Authors

Background Effective management of hyperlipidemia is crucial for preventing cardiovascular diseases. However, traditional monitoring systems often lack efficiency, particularly in navigating electronic health records (EHRs) to identify and track at-risk patients. Objective This study aims to evaluate the impact of a Hyperlipidemia Medication Reminder System (HLD-MRS) implemented in a district hospital to streamline EHR navigation and enhance patient management. Methods A pre-post prospective study was conducted at a district hospital. This study designed the HLD-MRS to integrate patient data, guideline recommendations, and risk factor assessments into a single interface, simplifying EHR navigation. This study compared EHR navigation times and patient tracking rates before and after HLD-MRS implementation across the Cardiology, Endocrinology, and Family Medicine departments. Results Among 750 patients with follow-up appointments, 334 were identified as having HLD or being at high-risk status. The HLD-MRS significantly reduced mean EHR navigation time from 83.9 s (SD = 8.6) to 53.8 s (SD = 6.6) across all departments (p < 0.001). The proportion of actively monitored HLD patients increased from 42.5 % to 56.6 %, while cases with unknown or withheld assessment status decreased from 57.5 % to 28.4 %. Conclusion The HLD-MRS improved efficiency in EHR navigation and increased the frequency of active patient monitoring. This guideline-driven decision support system shows promise for enhancing hyperlipidemia care in high-volume outpatient settings.

Free-electron radiation is a fundamental photon emission process that is induced by fast-moving electrons interacting with optical media. Historically, it has been understood that, just like any other photon emission process, free-electron radiation must be constrained within a finite time interval known as the "formation time", whose concept is applicable to both Cherenkov radiation and transition radiation, the two basic mechanisms describing radiation from a bulk medium and from an interface, respectively. Here we reveal an alternative mechanism of free-electron radiation far beyond the previously defined formation time. It occurs when a fast electron crosses the interface between vacuum and a plasmonic medium supporting bulk plasmons. While emitted continuously from the crossing point on the interface — thus consistent with the features of transition radiation — the extra radiation beyond the conventional formation time is supported by a long tail of bulk plasmons following the electron’s trajectory deep into the plasmonic medium. Such a plasmonic tail mixes surface and bulk effects, and provides a sustained channel for electron-interface interaction. These results also settle the historical debate in Ferrell radiation, regarding whether it is a surface or bulk effect, from transition radiation or plasmonic oscillation. Traditionally, for the purpose of classifying the integrity of an engineering structure, one may use the information of the natural frequencies or mode shapes or some other measures derived from the two. In this research, we propose a classification method on the basis of the general vibration model. The general vibration model is essentially a set of differential equations describing the dynamics of the structure under consideration. For the purpose of damage detection, a deviation of the general vibration model from the dynamic equilibrium point marks the occurrence of the damage. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the method, we study two simplest dynamical systems consisting of one- and two-concentrated masses subjected to a prescribed dynamic load. The structural damages are introduced artificially by reducing the stiffness of spring in the structures. We find that the general vibration model is more sensitive to damages than the traditional methods.

Background: To evaluate the effect of the weighting of input imaging combo and ADC threshold on the performance of the U-Net and to find an optimized input imaging combo and ADC threshold in segmenting acute ischemic stroke (AIS) lesion. Methods: This study retrospectively enrolled a total of 212 patients having AIS. Four combos, including ADC-ADC-ADC (AAA), DWI-ADC-ADC (DAA), DWI-DWI-ADC (DDA), and DWI-DWI-DWI (DDD), were used as input images, respectively. Three ADC thresholds including 0.6, 0.8 and 1.8 × 10^–3 mm²/s were applied. Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) was used to evaluate the segmentation performance of U-Nets. Nonparametric Kruskal–Wallis test with Tukey–Kramer post-hoc tests were used for comparison. A p <.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The DSC significantly varied among different combos of images and different ADC thresholds. Hybrid U-Nets outperformed uniform U-Nets at ADC thresholds of 0.6 × 10^–3 mm²/s and 0.8 × 10^–3 mm²/s (p <.001). The U-Net with imaging combo of DDD had segmentation performance similar to hybrid U-Nets at an ADC threshold of 1.8 × 10^–3 mm²/s (p =.062 to 1). The U-Net using the imaging combo of DAA at the ADC threshold of 0.6 × 10^–3 mm²/s achieved the highest DSC in the segmentation of AIS lesion. Conclusions: The segmentation performance of U-Net for AIS varies among the input imaging combos and ADC thresholds. The U-Net is optimized by choosing the imaging combo of DAA at an ADC threshold of 0.6 × 10^–3 mm²/s in segmentating AIS lesion with highest DSC. A Study of the Sensitivity of the Fuel Consumption to Driving Strategy by Micro Simulation

Global warming due to excessive emission greenhouse gases is a significant issue faced by humanity, and collectively, cars and trucks contribute about 20% to the entire global-warming gases. For a reason, recently, many attempts have been endured to reduce the emission and to increase fuel efficiency, including vehicle platooning, better driving strategy, and increasing engine efficiency. This study intends to provide a more detail assessment regarding the effects of the driving strategy to fuel consumption. For the purpose, the vehicle dynamics are quantified by employing the car-following model based on the optimal velocity model. The fuel consumption is estimated from the regression model of Ahn 18 . The result suggests that the braking distance strongly affects fuel consumption.

Charged particle acceleration using solid-state nanostructures has attracted attention in recent years as a method of achieving ultra-high-gradient acceleration in the TV/m domain. More concretely, metallic hollow nanostructures could be suitable for particle acceleration through the excitation of wakefields by a laser or a high-intensity charged particle beam in a high-density solid-state plasma. For instance, due to their special channelling properties as well as optoelectronic and thermo-mechanical properties, carbon nanotubes could be an excellent medium for this purpose. This article investigates the feasibility of generating ultra-high gradient acceleration using carbon nanotube arrays, modelled as solid-state plasmas in conventional particle-in-cell simulations performed in a two-dimensional axisymmetric (quasi-3D) geometry. The generation of beam-driven plasma wakefields depending on different parameters of the solid structure is discussed in detail. Furthermore, by adopting an effective plasma-density approach, existing analytical expressions, originally derived for homogeneous plasmas, can be used to describe wakefields driven in periodic non-uniform plasmas. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a pervasive developmental disorder that will affect children in terms of interpersonal communication, social interaction, and imaginative levels in play. Many therapies to help the motor neuron performance is one of them Pretend Play. Pretend Play is a therapy that invites children in playing to demonstrate something else and tell how to use objects that are considered in the child's imagination. However, in the era of highly developed technology, many fields have used the Augmented Reality method as a visualization of various aspects. With this method researchers will present the therapeutic visualization of the block to 3D transportation tool that is useful for strengthening motor nerves and visual strength of the child. The system can run well during marker detection, marker movement, and 3D object display with the accuracy of precision angle and distance between virtual world with real world reach 100% with angle 0 at distance 31 cm and the maximum distance from the marker is 46 cm and the maximum angle is 30. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In the cryptographic field, it is a cryptosystem practice to use a secret key together with a cryptographic algorithm parameter. These cryptographic algorithms should produce pseudorandom data to understand better the cryptographic performance of such ciphers. To understand the performance of a cryptographic algorithm a statistical analysis should be performed. In this paper, a randomness analysis of the proposed cryptographic algorithm using combined multilevel substitution and encryption techniques were executed. Statistical test results were presented using NIST STS to measure the randomness behavior of the keystream output. The statistical analysis utilized the non-parameterized test selection, such as cumulative sums, runs test, longest runs of ones, and frequency. The performed experiment used 100 samples with 100 bits in length. The algorithm achieved an average success rate of 99.50% in four statistical tests used. Therefore, it is assumed that the proposed cryptographic algorithm is effective in producing a random ciphertext sequence. For future works, it is then suggested to implement it in software application to boost electronic medical records protection.
