Singularities, mixing, and non-Markovianity of Pauli dynamical maps

Quantum non-Markovianity of channels can be produced by mixing Markovian channels, as observed recently by various authors. We consider an analogous question of whether singularities of the channel can be produced by mixing nonsingular channels, i.e., ones that lack them. Here we answer the question in the negative in the context of qubit Pauli channels. On the other hand, mixing channels with a singularity can lead to the elimination of singularities in the resultant channel. We distinguish between two types of singular channels, which lead under mixing to broadly quite different properties of the singularity in the resultant channel. The connection to non-Markovianity (in the sense of completely positive indivisibility) is pointed out. These results impose nontrivial restrictions on the experimental realization of noninvertible quantum channels by a process of channel mixing.

Wallas model problem-solving to identify prospective mathematics teachers ’expectations of students’ creative thinking processes

The mathematical thinking processes of prospective teachers in solving mathematical problems vary, especially the thinking processes they expect from their students. The four stages of the Wallas Model creative thinking process are preparation, incubation, illumination, and verification. The purpose of this research is to describe the creative thinking process that prospective teachers expected from their students in solving mathematical problems based on the Wallas model. The research technique employed is a mixed-methods approach. The participants in this study were 34 aspiring math teachers in mathematics education study program at Ibrahimy University. The Miles and Huberman model was used to evaluate the data collected from observation, test results, and interviews was confirmed using triangulation. The results of this study show that:(1) Prospective teachers expect their students to be able to carry out the four steps of the Wallas model of the creative thinking process when solving mathematical problems; (2) the expectations of the subject of the majority of high groups want students to be able to meet all stages of the Wallas model; (3) medium and low group subject expectations tend to desire the three-stage Wallas model reasonably; (4) the percentage of achievement indicator of the thinking process creative expected by prospective teachers to students in problem-solving based on the Wallas model were obtained for Preparation (73.53%), Incubation (91.18%), Illumination (82.35%), and Verification (44.12%). This research results findings should be followed up in a teacher or lecturer meeting to learn students’ creative thinking expectations in mathematics and other disciplines.

In this quantitative study, we examined the awareness of mobile health (mHealth) applications among Taiwan’s university students, particularly the government-operated My Health Bank application. The My Health Bank application allows users to access their personal health information simply through their smartphone’s sensor-assisted facial recognition camera and fingerprint sensor. Whether these university students might help older adults to use this application if they perceive it to be helpful was also explored. Two instruments were used in this study, namely, the Perceptions toward My Health Bank (PMHB) and Geriatric Attitudes Scale (GAS). Two hundred twenty-five (225) university students from the Departments of Senior Citizen Service Management (n = 136) and Nursing (n = 89) at two universities participated in this study. The findings indicated low adoption of My Health Bank and related mHealth applications among students even though they had high adoption rates of smartphones. However, they perceived that the functions of this application are useful and should be promoted to older adults. Thus, building a basic foundation of mHealth and related technology courses is recommended to assist healthcare students in being well-prepared for working with older adults in the digital society. © MYU K.K.

Today’s pluralistic and globalized society requires a global perspective in how we think, view ourselves, and relate to others to collaborate successfully with people with different cultural backgrounds. To support the development of a global perspective, universities cultivate international co-operations to enable international mobility for students, faculty, and staff. However, in-person mobility can be inhibited due to various reasons. To support a wider pool of students gaining international experience, modern digital mediated course formats can be used to offer virtual instead of in-person mobility. This contribution evaluates a digital mediated course for mechanical engineering students (Global Engineering, GE) held in co-operation between an US and a Portuguese university, where internationally mixed student groups working on design projects in an Hyflex setting. Asides a literature driven discussion about the need for Global Engineers and a detailed description of the GE course, a longitudinal analysis was performed to assess the impact of the GE course on the students’ development of a global perspective. The longitudinal analysis showed strong statistical support that the digitally mediated GE course improved the participating students’ global perspective, assessed with the Global Perspective Inventory (GPI), tremendously. The observed improvements were in three of the six GPI dimensions comparable to an in-person semester abroad. Limitations of the study and future investigations are discussed.

Because of the learning behaviors of learners include multiple characteristics and tendencies and the behaviors with complex and tangled associations, in this study, ISM with Fuzzy MICMAC and Fuzzy DEMATEL methods (approach) were applied. Analyze and discuss the dimensions and criteria of applying information technology to assist music teaching to influence learners' learning behaviors and to clarify the relationship between learning behaviors and to provide educational institutions and schools to introduce or improve the integration of information technology into music teaching of the teaching strategies and curriculum design and planning to trigger learners' learning behavior. Studies show that in terms of dimension, the integration of information technology into music teaching will motivate learners in areas such as online learning attitudes, music learning motivation, and learning engagement, and self-directed learning. The self-directed learning factor is an important key to the dimension of learning behavior;among these criterions, online teaching of musical performance, musical instrument teaching, and music theory will influence about 23 criteria of the learners' learning behavior, and computer/smart-phone preferences, online learning, computer/smart-phone, and computer and network confidence are the three keys to learning behavior criterion, therefore, in addition to establishing a good music teaching environment, strengthening learners' self-directed learning and online learning attitudes are important learning guidelines. © 2020 ACM.

Real-time acquisition of human pulse signals in daily life is clinically important for cardiovascular disease monitoring and ***,we propose a smart photonic wristband for pulse signal monitoring based on speckle pattern analysis with a polymer optical fiber(POF)integrated into a sports *** different speckle pattern processing algorithms and POFs with different core diameters were *** results indicated that the smart photonic wristband had a high signal-to-noise ratio and low latency,with the measurement error controlled at approximately 3.7%.This optimized pulse signal could be used for further medical diagnosis and was capable of objectively monitoring subtle pulse signal changes,such as the pulse waveform at different positions of Cunkou and pulse waveforms before and after *** the assistance of artificial intelligence(AI),functions such as gesture recognition have been realized through the established prediction model by processing pulse signals,in which the recognition accuracy reaches 95%.Our AI-assisted smart photonic wristband has potential applications for clinical treatment of cardiovascular diseases and home monitoring,paving the way for medical Internet of Things-enabled smart systems.

Dementia is a very common disease among the elderly, and its main symptom is cognitive dysfunction. Relevant research suggests that the course of dementia can be delayed through non-pharmacological intervention. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to develop a cognitive training system with the aid of digital technology to help people with dementia strengthen their brain and slow their cognitive function degradation. This research cooperates with the Changhua Christian Hospital in Taiwan, and the research subjects are a total of 16 mild dementia patients with an average age of 79.6 years old, who are divided into a traditional group and a digital group. The experimental tool is the "Recall" digital cognitive application system, as developed by this research, which includes sharing nostalgic storytelling and the introduction of technology for cognitive training. There are five types of systematic cognitive training questions: quiz questions, calculation questions, puzzle questions, weight questions, and silhouette questions, which mainly train memory, logic, and concentration. After treatment, the subjects are investigated via behavior observation, questionnaires, and interviews to learn their perceptions of the usability and experience of digital cognitive application systems for patients with dementia, and the Pearson correlation coefficient is used to analyze the relevance of the four factors of the experience, namely, feel, sense, relate, and think. The results show that the experience of using this system is significantly related in the factors of sense, relate, and think. On the whole, the application system developed in this research should have benefit in the introduction of technology into reminiscence therapy for patients with mild dementia via cognitive training through games. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Recognizing the tremendous improvements that the integration of generative AI can bring to intelligent transportation systems, this article explores the integration of generative AI technologies in vehicular networks, focusing on their potential applications and challenges. Generative AI, with its capabilities of generating realistic data and facilitating advanced decision-making processes, enhances various applications when combined with vehicular networks, such as navigation optimization, traffic prediction, data generation, and evaluation. Despite these promising applications, the integration of generative AI with vehicular networks faces several challenges, such as real-time data processing and decision-making, adapting to dynamic and unpredictable environments, as well as privacy and security concerns. To address these challenges, we propose a multi-modality semantic-aware framework to enhance the service quality of generative AI. By leveraging multi-modal and semantic communication technologies, the framework enables the use of text and image data for creating multi-modal content, providing more reliable guidance to receiving vehicles and ultimately improving system usability and efficiency. To further improve the reliability and efficiency of information transmission and reconstruction within the framework, taking generative AI-enabled vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) as a case study, a deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based approach is proposed for resource allocation. Finally, we discuss potential research directions and anticipated advancements in the field of generative AI-enabled vehicular networks. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Polarization entanglement holds significant importance for photonic quantum technologies. Recently emerging subwavelength nonlinear quantum light sources, e.g., GaP and LiNbO3 thin films, benefiting from the relaxed phase-matching constraints and volume confinement, has shown intriguing properties, such as high-dimensional hyperentanglement and robust entanglement anti-degradation. Van der Waals (vdW) NbOCl2 crystal, renowned for its superior optical nonlinearities, has emerged as one of ideal candidates for ultrathin quantum light sources [Nature 613, 53 (2023)]. However, polarization-entanglement is inaccessible in NbOCl2 crystal due to its unfavorable nonlinear susceptibility tensor. Here, by leveraging the twist-stacking degree of freedom inherently in vdW systems, we showcase the preparation of tunable polarization entanglement and quantum Bell states. Our work not only provides a new and tunable polarization-entangled vdW photon-pair source, but also introduces a new knob in engineering the entanglement state of quantum light at the nanoscale. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.
