Over the past decades, time series classification (TSC) has become an essential task in many fields, leading to a plethora of TSC deep learning algorithms. The effectiveness of these algorithms largely depends on the quality of input representations. Among various representations, a recurrence plot (RP), a binary-encoded matrix, stands out as a powerful input representation. The RP encapsulates a topological recurrence, the unique property of time series data. This property is characterized by the fact that each point in a certain region of its phase space returns arbitrarily close to its initial position infinitely often. Despite its grid-like appearance, the essential information of the RP lies in its inherently intricate topological recurrence patterns. Recently, the RP has been widely used with a convolutional neural network (CNN) for TSC, treating the RP as grid-like data. However, the topological recurrence patterns can often be overlooked when using CNNs with their 2D convolution operation designed for Euclidean space. In this study, we propose an approach named RP-GCN that combines the RP with a graph convolutional network (GCN) to exploit the topological recurrence inherent in the RP, thereby improving TSC performance. Our RP-GCN transforms a multivariate time series into state matrices and RPs, redefining them as node feature matrices and adjacency matrices, respectively. We validated the performance of our RP-GCN on 35 benchmark multivariate time series classification datasets and found that it exhibited promising performance in terms of accuracy and inference time. © 2024, The Authors. Dementia is a very common disease among the elderly, and its main symptom is cognitive dysfunction. Relevant research suggests that the course of dementia can be delayed through non-pharmacological intervention. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to develop a cognitive training system with the aid of digital technology to help people with dementia strengthen their brain and slow their cognitive function degradation. This research cooperates with the Changhua Christian Hospital in Taiwan, and the research subjects are a total of 16 mild dementia patients with an average age of 79.6 years old, who are divided into a traditional group and a digital group. The experimental tool is the "Recall" digital cognitive application system, as developed by this research, which includes sharing nostalgic storytelling and the introduction of technology for cognitive training. There are five types of systematic cognitive training questions: quiz questions, calculation questions, puzzle questions, weight questions, and silhouette questions, which mainly train memory, logic, and concentration. After treatment, the subjects are investigated via behavior observation, questionnaires, and interviews to learn their perceptions of the usability and experience of digital cognitive application systems for patients with dementia, and the Pearson correlation coefficient is used to analyze the relevance of the four factors of the experience, namely, feel, sense, relate, and think. The results show that the experience of using this system is significantly related in the factors of sense, relate, and think. On the whole, the application system developed in this research should have benefit in the introduction of technology into reminiscence therapy for patients with mild dementia via cognitive training through games. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

It is inevitable for modern organizations to deal with multiple institutional logics in their daily operations. Social enterprises have a dual focus on solving social problems and being financially sustainable;as a result, it has become crucial for them to respond to these social conflicts rooted in multiple institutional logics. The relevant extant literature pays more attention to resolving institutional logic conflicts while there is a need to discuss and examine how multiple institutional logics interact with each other. A representative social enterprise in Taiwan, CAN Culture Art and Nature, was selected as the case study. Qualitative research methods, including in-depth interviews with stakeholders, participant observations inside the organization as well as second-hand data examination, are undertook to collect data. The inductive approach based on the grounded theory is employed for data analysis. Our research findings show that CAN uses three strategies in response to multiple institutional logics, in order to create a cycle which embraces a variety of resources in practice. In addition, this research proposes the “symbiosis” strategy to respond conflicts among multiple institutional logics for social enterprises. The managerial implications to social enterprises and non-profit organizations are also proposed in this paper. © 2021 Chinese management Association. All Rights Reserved.

Support Vector Regression (SVR) is often used in forecasting. Adjustment of parameters in the SVR affects the results of forecasting. This study aims to analyze the SVR method that is optimized using Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO), hereinafter referred to as HHO-SVR. The HHO-SVR was evaluated using five benchmark datasets to determine the performance of this method. The HHO process is also compared based on the type of kernel and other metaheuristic algorithms. The results showed that the HHO-SVR has almost the same performance as other methods but is less efficient in terms of time. In addition, the type of kernel also affects the process and results.

Traditional restaurant managers’ use of sensory marketing to maintain customer satisfaction: Findings from PLS-SEM and fsQCA

The sensory experience is the initial step in creating memorable dining experiences for consumers in traditional restaurants. However, the question remains as to how managers should best combine the five senses to satisfy customers. More research is needed to determine how sensory cues can be used in marketing strategies. By applying five sensory marketing to traditional restaurants, this study proposes a model for satisfying customers. In addition, it aims to leverage methodologies that ultimately lead to customer satisfaction based on sensory marketing that can serve as guidelines for restaurant managers. The study hypotheses were tested on a sample of 525 Indonesians who dined at traditional restaurants. Data analysis was conducted using structural equation modelling with Smart-PLS 4.0 and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) 3.0. The results indicated that olfaction and haptics are significant factors in customer satisfaction, whereas visual, taste, and auditory are not. According to the QCA findings, two configurations were associated with high satisfaction outcomes, while two others were associated with low satisfaction outcomes. As a theoretical and managerial contribution, this study provides guidance to scholars and managers interested in improving satisfaction in traditional restaurants through sensory marketing techniques.

In this quantitative study, we examined the awareness of mobile health (mHealth) applications among Taiwan’s university students, particularly the government-operated My Health Bank application. The My Health Bank application allows users to access their personal health information simply through their smartphone’s sensor-assisted facial recognition camera and fingerprint sensor. Whether these university students might help older adults to use this application if they perceive it to be helpful was also explored. Two instruments were used in this study, namely, the Perceptions toward My Health Bank (PMHB) and Geriatric Attitudes Scale (GAS). Two hundred twenty-five (225) university students from the Departments of Senior Citizen Service management (n = 136) and Nursing (n = 89) at two universities participated in this study. The findings indicated low adoption of My Health Bank and related mHealth applications among students even though they had high adoption rates of smartphones. However, they perceived that the functions of this application are useful and should be promoted to older adults. Thus, building a basic foundation of mHealth and related technology courses is recommended to assist healthcare students in being well-prepared for working with older adults in the digital society. © MYU K.K.

Today, electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) is considered one of tourism businesses’ most effective forms of communication. Using eWOM on social media as an alternative decision aid can benefit consumers. This study examines the information adoption model to determine how consumers adopt eWOM on Instagram, and the subsequent influence on their travel behaviour. This study identifies the need for information as a predictor of information usefulness, converted to adoption and visit intentions. To test the research hypotheses, 263 respondents who had visited destinations based on eWOM recommendations on Instagram participated in the experiment. The data were analysed using a structural equation modelling approach using Smart-PLS 3.0. The findings indicate that the need for information is the most significant factor affecting the usefulness of the information. Furthermore, source credibility and argument quality are critical factors in enhancing the information’s usefulness. Thus, this study has significantly contributed to the theory by adding the need of information to predict visit intentions in the IAM model. Consumers are more likely to adopt high-quality information and convert it into a visit intention. This study provides practical guidelines for tourism managers who wish to utilise social media platforms (e.g., Instagram) as marketing communication tools to encourage eWOM about their destinations.

With the recent rapid development of the Internet of Vehicles and autonomous driving technology, the demand for digital vehicle identification has also increased. Coupled with the gradual maturity of quantum technology, the Internet of Vehicles, which mainly uses wireless communication technology for data transmission, will face the threat of quantum computing and privacy issues. This research proposes the Vehicle Forensics Cloud System (VFCS), a framework combining post-quantum cryptography and blockchain technology to address these issues and provide a comprehensive solution for vehicle digital forensics.

Today’s pluralistic and globalized society requires a global perspective in how we think, view ourselves, and relate to others to collaborate successfully with people with different cultural backgrounds. To support the development of a global perspective, universities cultivate international co-operations to enable international mobility for students, faculty, and staff. However, in-person mobility can be inhibited due to various reasons. To support a wider pool of students gaining international experience, modern digital mediated course formats can be used to offer virtual instead of in-person mobility. This contribution evaluates a digital mediated course for mechanical engineering students (Global Engineering, GE) held in co-operation between an US and a Portuguese university, where internationally mixed student groups working on design projects in an Hyflex setting. Asides a literature driven discussion about the need for Global Engineers and a detailed description of the GE course, a longitudinal analysis was performed to assess the impact of the GE course on the students’ development of a global perspective. The longitudinal analysis showed strong statistical support that the digitally mediated GE course improved the participating students’ global perspective, assessed with the Global Perspective Inventory (GPI), tremendously. The observed improvements were in three of the six GPI dimensions comparable to an in-person semester abroad. Limitations of the study and future investigations are discussed.

Purpose: Remarkable progress in healthcare technology has recently been made alongside changes in concepts related to drugs and medical devices. It is speculated that this progress benefits not only patients but also healthcare professionals, such as medical doctors. We performed a systematic review of the characteristics of current data assessment tools to measure medical doctors’ work-related quality of life (QOL). Methods: A literature search was conducted through PubMed and Ichushi-Web in 2020. The related search terms used were ‘medical doctor,’ ‘quality of work life,’ and ‘questionnaire/interview.’ Two reviewers independently screened the studies, and the characteristics of the QOL assessment tools used in the identified studies were qualitatively reviewed and summarized. Results: In total, 5,443 and 760 articles were retrieved from PubMed and Ichushi-Web, respectively, of which 82 studies were included in this review. Sixty-five (79%) studies used structured questionnaires, and 17 (21%) studies used semistructured questionnaires. In terms of the study purpose, the identified studies mainly included four: mental health, the work or labor situation, satisfaction, and QOL. Components used to measure work-related QOL included satisfaction, burnout, QOL, the work environment, stress, mental health, work-life balance, and others. None of the studies used an originally developed QOL questionnaire to assess the work-related benefits of medical doctors. Conclusion: This systematic review found that there is a lack of studies directly assessing the work-related QOL of medical doctors and a lack of effective data collection tools to assess all work-related QOL components. © 2023 I work for Otsuka Holdings Co., Ltd and the joint research is the university of Tokyo.
