Sports science can have a significant and positive impact on coaches and athletes, as well as for the professional sports organization. According to this situation, more and more organizations are competing to implement sports science as the monitoring systems. Along with the development of technology, it becomes easier for humans to carry out their activities, including communication with each other. Advances in the field of communication technologies have led to the use of social networks to support all activity. With social media, all kinds of information that people want to search for can be found easily. Social networks have their uniqueness in their characteristics. Like LINE has free calling and video calling features, while Instagram has features like Instagram Story, where users can document their activities in the form of photos or recordings. By all the characteristics of social networks, it will support the activity of sports science. The methodology of this research focused on quantitative research based on the T-test approach. The result shows that social media involvement can significantly support collaboration in sports science, so it can increase people's motivation to interact with other participants in sport organizations.

Machine learning models that are used for the prediction and control of production can improve quality and yield. However, developing models that are highly accurate and reflective of real-world processes is challenging. We propose a feedforward neural network model specifically designed for continuous Multistage Manufacturing Processes (MMPs) without intermediate outputs. This model, which is termed “MMP Net,” can accurately represent the control mechanism of continuous MMPs. Whereas existing studies on learning MMPs assume an intermediate output data, the MMP Net does not require such an unrealistic assumption. We use the MMP Net to develop prediction models for the lubricant base oil production process of a world-leading lubricant manufacturer. Evaluation results show that the MMP Net is superior to other deep neural network and machine learning models. Consequently, the MMP Net was actually implemented in a real factory in 2022 and is expected to save 900,000 dollars per year for each production line. We believe that our work can serve as a basis to develop customized machine learning solutions for improving continuous MMPs.

The Mt. Malindang Range Natural Park (MMRNP) in the Philippines is a vital protected area that harbors a diverse range of flora and fauna with substantial economic significance. Despite the extensive research conducted within MMRNP, the monetary value of its rich biodiversity remains vastly underestimated. This research employs a combination of key informant interviews and focus group discussions with local and indigenous people (IP) communities living near MMRNP. Value chain analysis and resource rent calculation were utilized to determine the economic value of MMNRP’s bioresources and ensure their sustainability and equitable management. Through these participatory methods, nine bioresources of significant economic importance have been identified, prioritized, and found to be collected, utilized, and traded by communities. These include five floral species: Dendrocnide sp., Calamus sp., Cinnamomum mercadoi, Agathis philippinensis, and Gymnostoma sumatranum, and four faunal species: Limnonectes sp., Apis sp., Apis cerana, and Sus philippensis. The estimated annual value of these economically important bioresources within MMRNP is PhP 42,708,861.20. Given its potential contribution to the local economy, the establishment of enabling policies to protect bioresources is crucial to mitigate the adverse impacts of natural resource exploitation on both economic growth and the development of local communities residing near MMRNP. It is strongly recommended that joint close monitoring and supervision by relevant agencies such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), local government units (LGUs), and Protected Area management Boards (PAMB) be implemented. This approach will promote transparency and consensus building, ensuring the sustainable management of these invaluable bioresources for access and benefit of present and future generations. Diallyl trisulfide (DATS), an organosulfide compound derived from garlic, is renowned for its potent antioxidant properties, particularly in countering the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). It has also gained recognition as a potential agent for preventing heart-related conditions. Doxorubicin (Dox), a commonly used chemotherapeutic drug, is known to induce severe cardiac complications by promoting ROS production. Therefore, it was imperative to investigate whether DATS possesses cardioprotective capabilities against Dox-induced cardiac apoptosis and elucidate the underlying mechanisms. In this study, we observed that the intracellular ROS levels and cardiac apoptosis were heightened in H9c2 cells exposed to Dox (1 μM). However, treatment with 10 μM DATS effectively mitigated the Dox-induced ROS generation and apoptotic signaling, concurrently activating the PI3K/Akt pathway. Notably, the anti-apoptotic effects of DATS were attenuated when PI3K siRNA and the LY294002 PI3K inhibitor were employed. Furthermore, the TUNEL assay results demonstrated a significant reduction in Dox-induced apoptosis with DATS treatment. In summary, our findings indicate that DATS can activate the PI3K/Akt pathway, reducing ROS production in cardiac cells exposed to Dox, and subsequently rescue cardiac cells from apoptosis. © 2023 The Authors

Streptococcus iniae (S. iniae) has become an important aquatic pathogen to cause serious streptococcosis outbreaks in cultured fish species, thus resulting in great economic losses in the worldwide aquaculture industry. Although vaccination has been so far an effective strategy to alleviate the threats of streptococcosis, antigenic variations displayed by different strains/isolates of S. iniae have brought about a severe challenge in the vaccine development. In the present study, three local S. iniae isolates, MML SI-007, MML SI-018 and MML SI-148, were first evaluated for their virulence in tilapia. Proteomics was then performed to analyze protein profiles between the highly virulent isolate (MML SI-007) and lowly virulent isolate (MML SI-018) in order to identify important virulence factors/antigens shared by different isolates. After proteomics, eleven proteins that displayed more than four times the differences in expression between MML SI-007 and MML SI-018 were identified. Two proteins, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), were selected to be vaccine candidates for respectively cloning their genes and expressing their recombinant proteins, rGAPDH and rSOD. After peritoneal vaccination in tilapia, mixed recombinant proteins (rGAPDH + rSOD) elicited significantly higher serum titers and lymphocyte proliferation than individual recombinant proteins (rGAPDH or rSOD). In addition, maximum production of IL-6 in the head kidney was detected in fish peritoneally vaccinated with mixed recombinant proteins. More importantly, 84% (21/25) of tilapia peritoneally vaccinated with mixed recombinant proteins survived at least four weeks after a lethal peritoneal challenge of heterologous S. iniae (MML SI-148). The hydrolysis of DNA serves as the foundational principle for gene engineering that enable precise gene cleavage at the molecular level. This process typically occurs in biological nucleases, which exhibit nucleobase-selective and catalytic hydrolysis capabilities rarely replicated in abiotic nanomaterials. Here, we demonstrate that molybdenum-terminated (Mo-terminated) edges of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) possess the unique ability to abstract a proton (H+) from water molecules, thereby facilitating catalytic hydrolysis reactions that cleave the phosphodiester bonds in DNA through the action of hydroxide ions. The enhanced proton absorption at Mo-terminated edges of MoS2 significantly reduces the activation energy required for the DNA hydrolysis reaction. Furthermore, the favorable interaction between the Mo-terminated edges and thymine nucleobases promotes both charge transfer and P-O bond cleavage, enabling targeted DNA hydrolysis at 'TTTTTTT' sequences under dark conditions. This discovery underscores the potential of MoS2 as a stable, efficient nanosystem for precise genetic editing, heralding advanced applications in the field of gene engineering. © 2024, The Authors. Intra-tumor heterogeneity(ITH) is a key challenge in cancer treatment, but previous studies have focused mainly on the genomic alterations without exploring phenotypic(transcriptomic and immune)heterogeneity. Using one of the largest prospective surgical cohorts for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)with multi-region sampling, we sequenced whole genomes and paired transcriptomes from 67 HCC patients(331 samples). We found that while genomic ITH was rather constant across stages, phenotypic ITH had a very different trajectory and quickly diversified in stage Ⅱ patients. Most strikingly, 30% of patients were found to contain more than one transcriptomic subtype within a single tumor. Such phenotypic ITH was found to be much more informative in predicting patient survival than genomic ITH and explains the poor efficacy of single-target systemic therapies in HCC. Taken together, we not only revealed an unprecedentedly dynamic landscape of phenotypic heterogeneity in HCC, but also highlighted the importance of studying phenotypic evolution across cancer types.

Fish handling conditions on the market nowadays mainly in the traditional market is less a principle handling with caution, fast, and clean, making the selling fish polluted with chemical, physical, and microbiological pollutants. The fish handling on the modern market is generally better than the traditional markets. Puncak Permai and Simo Gunung Market provide fresh fish more than any other market in Surabaya, making these markets become the main destination for consumers, therefore this study was conducted to observe the fish freshness in both markets. The purpose of this study was to compare the freshness and observe the handling way of traders situating in both markets. This research used a survey method that was conducted for seven times sampling with three days of interval sampling. This study took three types of marine fish. The main parameters observed were pH and organoleptic values, while the supporting parameters were interviewed data. The result showed that the handling method had a significant effect (p0.05) on the pH level. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Background: The association of breaks in sedentary time with outcomes of physical function can vary according to the time of day. We examined the association of the diurnal pattern of breaks in sedentary time with physical function outcomes in older adults. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted among 115 older adults (≥60 years). The overall and time-specific breaks (morning: 06:00–12:00;afternoon: 12:00–18:00;evening: 18:00–24:00) in sedentary time were assessed using a triaxial accelerometer (Actigraph GT3X+). A break in sedentary time was defined as at least 1 min where the accelerometer registered ≥100 cpm following a sedentary period. Five physical function outcomes were assessed: handgrip strength (dynamometer), balance ability (single leg stance), gait speed (11-m walking), basic functional mobility (time up and go), and lower-limb strength (five times sit-to-stand). Generalized linear models were used to examine the associations of the overall and time-specific breaks in sedentary time with the physical function outcomes. Results: Participants showed an average of 69.4 breaks in sedentary time during the day. Less frequent breaks in the evening (19.3) were found than that in the morning (24.3) and the afternoon (25.3) (p < 0.05). Breaks in sedentary time during the day were associated with less time on gait speed in older adults (exp (β) = 0.92, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.86–0.98;p < 0.01). Time-specific analysis showed that breaks in sedentary time were associated with less time on gait speed (exp (β) = 0.94, 95% CI 0.91–0.97;p < 0.01), basic functional mobility (exp (β) = 0.93, 95% CI 0.89–0.97;p < 0.01), and lower-limb strength (exp (β) = 0.92, 95% CI 0.87–0.97;p < 0.01) in the evening only. Conclusion: A break in sedentary time, particularly during the evening, was associated with better lower extremity strength in older adults.
