In recent years, a lot of research concerns with the wireless sensor networks (WSN). With the increasing usages of WSN applications such as health care and disaster reporting, security requirements, wireless communication has become more critical. Researchers of intrusion detection system on WSN have suggested that systems' detecting mechanisms would likely affect their detections effective and lifetime of whole networks. Ontology can collect and organize the attributes of attacks However, those methods have empirically documented the link between ontology concept and lightweight Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is scant. Therefore, the aim of this paper attempts to explore how intrusion detection system about ontology and light-weight IDS are related. The manager constructs relationship of sensor nodes on ontology to detect Sybil attack. Combine light-weight IDS the ranger method to reduce energy consumption and the isolation tables avoid detecting anomaly repeatedly. We proposed a lightweight ontology-based IDS, which improves existence shortcomings of IDS on WSN effectively. © 2011 IEEE.

The customization of software process capability/maturity models (SPCMMs) to specific domains/sectors or development methodologies represents one of the most discussed and applied trends in ICT organizations. Nonetheless, little research appears to have been performed on how theoretically sound and widely accepted SPCMMs should be developed to high quality. The aim of this paper is therefore to elicit the state-of-the-art regarding the processes adopted to develop such models and to propose a systematic approach to support the customization of SPCMMs. Such an approach is developed based on ISO/IEEE standard development processes integrating Knowledge Engineering techniques and experiences about how such models are currently developed in practice. Initial feedback from an expert panel indicates the usefulness and adequacy of the proposed method. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Contingency factors and globalization phenomena are forcing companies to revise the way they conceive and manage their operations network. Operations strategic management systems should develop specific design requirements to deal with a complex and changing environment, that is, operations strategy plans should be continuously assed and updated. This paper frame a discussion based on operations strategy and performance measurement framework. Performance measurement roles are revised in order to assess their alignment to new design requirements for operations strategic management. Based on a set of updated performance measurement systems roles, a case study protocol is developed and applied to manufacturing and service companies. Although classical roles as performance monitoring and control are still the main focus of operations performance measurement systems, evidences collected show a growing use of these management systems for continuous improvement and change management processes.

Antimicrobial effectiveness of biobased film against Escherichia coli 0157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella typhimurium

Antimicrobial packaging, an active packaging concept, can be considered challenging technology that could have a significant impact on food safety of meat and meat products. The feasibility of polylactic acid (PLA)-based film was evaluated for its application as a material for antimicrobial film. A bio-based commercial polylactic acid (PLA) product, Ecovio*, was used as an environmentally friendly polymer matrix. The PLA based film was incorporated with lactic acid or sodium lactate by extrusion film-blowing process. The antimicrobial activity of films against Escherichia coli O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella entérica Serovar Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) were evaluated. Antimicrobial film incorporated with lactic acid packaging film was found to be highly effective in inhibiting L. monocytogenes. In contrast, no inhibitory activity was observed against E. coli O157:H7, and S. Typhimurium. This is consistent with Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) studies which indicated that undissociated lactic acid was more efficient in inhibiting L. monocytogenes than enterobacteria. This preliminary study shows the potential use of bio-based film as one hurdle technology in combination with good manufacturing practices and adequate storage temperatures. The use of antimicrobial packaging may contribute to improve the safety in minimally processed foods. Further work is required to improve the mechanical properties of the material in order to meet industry requirements. © Maxwell Scientific Organization, 2011.

Since the nineties, Data Mining (DM) has shown to be a privileged partner in business by providing the organizations a rich set of tools to extract novel and useful knowledge from databases. In this paper, a DM application in the highly competitive market of educational services is presented. A model was built by combining a set of classifiers into a committee machine to predict the likelihood that a student who completed his/her second term will remain in the institution until *** model was applied to undergraduate student records in a higher education institution in Brasília, the capital of Brazil, and has shown to be predictive for evasion in a high accuracy. The unbiased selection of students with elevated evasion risk affords the institution the opportunity to devise mitigation strategies and preempt a decision by the student to evade. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Innovation is the key for an organization to achieve sustainable development. Open innovation which emphasizes the integration of internal and external resources in an organization has brought about a new perspective in technological developments. In order to promote and ensure the performance of the open innovation, an assessment framework and the evaluation indicators are required. This study extracted dimensions from literatures and developed performance indicators by compiling opinions from both academic researchers and business experts. The study then flowed into an Analytic Hierarchy Process for data analysis. The systematic level included “technology execution,” “technology exploitation” and “technology exploration” and among all the sub-dimensions for open innovation performance, “Employee involvement” was the most significant. This study identified three significant indicators that are suggested by academic and business experts: “The percentage of successful cross-departmental staff participation in new product development”, “The degree of incentive/reward system implementation for innovation”, and “The degree of innovation sharing among employees”.

Collaborative techniques for business process design are generally supported by groupware tools that allow process actors to interact collecting their knowledge about the activities performed. Despite success reports, challenges are still observed due to the complexity of this task. We propose to gather benefits of interviews, collaboration and visual methods in eliciting business processes in order to deal with problems identified in literature. We present an approach based on a collaborative mobile application which analysts should use while interviewing process stakeholders. The information is collected through a simple BPMN diagram through which they exchange information and build parts of the models.

We research the multimedia information hiding (MIH) which is a technology to overlay digital information on multimedia contents such as picture, sound, document, etc. As application to disaster management of MIH, we have developed a new technology called "PAIH" (Public Address Information Hiding) which is a technology to overlay information such as position or destination on siren sound of urgent vehicles. Siren sound is allowed to degrade of sound quality, but PAIH is required to decode correct information from siren sound with pitch shift (Doppler effect) or under noisy environment.

Bioplastics constitute an emerging and innovative industrial segment, characterized by new synergies and collaborations among the chemical, biotechnological, agricultural, and consumer sectors. This paper reports on a survey of factors that influence bioplastics adoption. Research focusing on each factor such as capital, R&D and innovation and licensing and IP related impediments are summarized. © 2010 IEEE.
