In the present work we studied the fabrication of ferroelectric film as PLZT by the sol-gel technique, and the birefringence optical property induced by the external voltage is measured by the electro-optic modulated heterodyne interferometer. The seeding layer as PT is deposited on the ITO glass substrate before the deposition of PLZT film. After the deposition of PLZT film, a conducting layer as SnO2 is then coated on the top of PLZT. Experimental results show that there exists birefringence on this ferroelectric film we made by sol-gel method. © 2010 IEEE.

Diverse organisms exploit the geomagnetic field (GMF) for migration. Migrating birds employ an intrinsically quantum mechanical mechanism for detecting the geomagnetic field: absorption of a blue photon generates a radical pair whose two electrons precess at different rates in the magnetic field, thereby sensitizing cells to the direction of the GMF. In this work, using an in vitro injury model, we discovered a quantum-based mechanism of cellular migration. Specifically, we show that migrating cells detect the GMF via an optically activated, electron spin-based mechanism. Cell injury provokes acute emission of blue photons, and these photons sensitize muscle progenitor cells to the magnetic field. We show that the magnetosensitivity of muscle progenitor cells is (a) activated by blue light, but not by green or red light, and (b) disrupted by the application of an oscillatory field at the frequency corresponding to the energy of the electron-spin/magnetic field interaction. A comprehensive analysis of protein expression reveals that the ability of blue photons to promote cell motility is mediated by activation of calmodulin calcium sensors. Collectively, these data suggest that cells possess a light-dependent magnetic compass driven by electron spin dynamics. © 2025, CC BY.

The fundamental concept of the LAS technique is to understand the fuel concentration by attenuation of both visible and ultraviolet light. The intensity of visible light is only attenuated by the scattering of droplets, while that of ultraviolet light is attenuated by the scattering of droplets and the absorption of vapors. The conventional LAS uses the ND: YAG pulse laser, CCD cameras and one shot for one spray, which takes time and effort. Moreover, temporal variation measurement of a single shot spray is not possible by the conventional LAS. To record the distribution of the whole vapor phase in an injection event and measure the liquid and vapor concentration inside the spray, a high-speed laser absorption scattering (HS-LAS) technique was developed applying continuous diode light source, high-speed video cameras, and image intensifier for UV light, which can provide the temporal variation of a single shot spray. In the experiment, a commercial seven-hole injector with a hole diameter of 0.123 mm allowing high injection pressure up to 100 MPa was used to avoid the potential inconsistencies with single-hole test injector. The diesel surrogate fuel which consists of 97.5 % n-tridecane and 2.5 % of volume-based 1-methylnaphthalene was used. The injection amount 5.0 mg/hole were selected to investigate the structure and mixture formation process of the spray. The findings of the experiments show that this imaging approach is a promising diagnostic technique for concurrently obtaining quantitative information on the quantity of vapor and droplets in a fuel spray. Furthermore, the turbulent/vortex fluid dynamics' temporal development/variation can be investigated. © 2022 by the Japan Society of mechanical Engineers All rights reserved.

To establish a quantitative relationship between fabrication parameters, pore-configuration, and mechanical properties in porous materials, the pore configurations were visualized by X-ray computed tomography (CT) about pure Ti-AM specimens fabricated under different laser beam conditions. Radius and sphericity of all pores were obtained by image analysis. Furthermore, using the 0th persistent homology, the pore configurations were qualified by the pair of birth and death values, b and d for all pores: |b| means a pore radius and d correspond to a half distance between adjacent pores. The significant correlations were confirmed between tensile strength/elongation and the parameters: the maximum value of |b|, the ratio of the mean values of |b| and d (neck geometry), and the sphericity of the largest pore. These were proposed as useful structural parameters representing 3D pore-structure in porous materials. © European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA)

Heteronuclear Bi1-x La x [Fe(CN)6] ·nH2O complexes were synthesized, and their crystal structures and thermal decomposition process were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetry analysis (TGA), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) with scanning electron microscope (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The crystal system of the complexes was orthorhombic having n = 4 for x = 0-0.7 and was hexagonal having n = 5 for x = 1.0. Their mixture was confirmed for x = 0.8 and 0.9. The lattice parameters for the orthorhombic increased with increasing the x value for the complexes. The single phase of trimetallic perovskite-type Bi1-x La x FeO3 was obtained by its thermal decomposition at low temperature. The crystal system was hexagonal for BiFeO3 (x = 0) and orthorhombic for x = 0.1-1.0. In the case of the decomposed perovskite sample, the lattice parameters decreased with increasing x values for Bi1-x La x FeO3. The particle size was ca. 30 nm for Bi0.2La0.8FeO3 obtained by thermal decomposition at 500 °C and it grew with an increase in decomposition temperature. For the Bi0.5La0.5FeO 3, AES showed that the elemental distributions of Bi, La, and Fe on the surface were very homogeneous for the sample decomposed at 700 °C.

We investigated postannealing temperature dependence of the structural and magnetic properties of Co2Ti0.5Mn0.5Al and Co2Ti0.5Mn0.5Si films. It was observed that the Co2Ti0.5Mn0.5Al film formed an ordered L2 1 structure and an ordered B2 structure after postannealing at above 873 K and below 773 K, respectively. The Co2Ti0.5Mn 0.5Si film deposited with substrate heating at above 473 K formed an ordered L21 structure. The obtained magnetoresistance ratio for a junction using an L21 ordered Co2Ti0.5Mn 0.5Si electrode was 12.5 at room temperature (RT). The estimated spin polarization of the Co2Ti0.5Mn0.5Si film was 0.14 at RT. The magnetoresistance ratios of a junction using a B2 ordered Co2Ti0.5Mn0.5Al electrode were 65.8 at RT and 128.4% at 7 K. The estimated spin polarizations of the Co2Ti 0.5Mn0.5Al film were 0.56 at RT and 0.78 at 7 K. © 2011 American Institute of Physics.

Technological advancements are increasingly evident across various sectors, including automobiles, industry, and healthcare. In precision agriculture, significant progress has been made, with AgroTICs and Smart Agriculture gaining substantial traction in the market. However, a gap remains between cutting-edge technology and family farming, presenting a challenge from both social and applied research perspectives. However, there is still a gap between cutting-edge technology and family farming, which creates a challenge from a social and applied research point of view. In this context, this paper proposes a monitoring model based on Fuzzy Logic and sensor automation applied to estimate the health of a corn crop. The proposed Fuzzy inference system involves calculating an indicator of nutrients as well as the average color and area of corn plants. The nutrient indicator is automatically computed by an ESP32 microcontroller using sensor readings, while the average color and area inputs are manually entered via a mobile application. Additionally, the Fuzzy inference is integrated into the ESP32. The model underwent experimental validation on the health of the plantation, and the results were evaluated in four areas: one was designated for testing, and three were for validation. The model achieved an accuracy of 97.5% in Scenario 3, categorized as 'Very Favorable', and an accuracy of 65% in Scenarios 2 and 4, categorized as 'Unfavorable'. The implications of this research contribute to the advancement of AgroTICs among small producers, with the potential to enhance and automate the monitoring of their harvest production. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper compares three methods of displacement measurement with 1 μm resolution using speckle pattern correlation. It shows to what extent the correlation curvecan be regarded as constant over a 100 μm interval and how it is possible to use this curve to reduce the number of required database patterns. Reducing the required database patterns makes it possible to expand the displacement measurement using speckle correlation to longer ranges and to two dimensions. This may lead to development of a two dimensional absolute scale for machine tools which could be fast and low cost.
