Simulation-based learning is one of the most powerful tools to support the educational process. This learning offers an opportunity to learn based on experiences that are very similar to real-world environments. In the context of logistics, which can be considered a complex system, significant efforts are required to enhance students' understanding and practical skills. For that reason, simulations are used so that benefits such as skills and knowledge in the field of logistics can be achieved. However, there are currently several challenges in developing simulation-based learning in higher education. These challenges include the need for simulations that are appropriate for the current learning context, where the students are generally from Generation Z, and how to improve their learning quality in the era of Industry 4.0. To address these challenges, more suitable simulations need to be developed, and higher education institutions must carefully examine how to develop them, including identifying the essential components in the development of simulations for logistics learning. In this research, a systematic literature review using the PRISMA method and also creating a conceptual model of simulation that better meets the current needs of logistics education will be proposed. The results of this research can be used as a basis for developing updated simulations to better prepare students for the challenges of Industry 4.0.

Recent advancements in on-demand multimedia streaming have revealed the potential of this business model, driven by the convenience of accessing content anytime and anywhere. However, delivering a seamless user experience remains challenging due to the demanding nature of audiovisual streams, despite significant resource allocation. A promising solution involves using load balancers to distribute workloads evenly among processing units. This study proposes optimizing the processing and transmission resources by means of Software-Defined Networks (SDN). By continuously monitoring performance metrics like CPU usage and throughput, the SDN network controller determines the best server for handling new connections, even allowing seamless server migration during playback. The results show up to 80% faster response times and more consistent video quality, with reduced latency and uninterrupted playback. The approach also confirms the feasibility of SDN in streaming services, providing a foundation for future network improvements.

Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a significant health burden globally, contributing to 1–2% of all mortality. The quest for new pharmacological interventions for NTDs is hampered by the substantial time and financial resources required for drug development, alongside a marked disinterest from laboratories due to the geographic and economic profiles of affected regions. This study presents a novel protocol for leveraging graph database architectures to elucidate potential connections between NTDs and existing pharmaceuticals that may be repurposed for treatment. Focusing on tuberculosis as a case study, we constructed a graph database integrating comprehensive disease and drug data. By removing established links between tuberculosis and known treatments, we employed a Graph Convolutional Neural Network (Graph-CNN) algorithm to unearth previously unrecognized relationships. This computational approach not only facilitates the discovery of new drug-disease associations but also streamlines the repurposing process for existing medications. Our findings demonstrate the utility of advanced data engineering and machine learning techniques in identifying promising therapeutic candidates for NTDs, potentially accelerating the availability of effective treatments for these underserved diseases. The study’s contribution is underscored by a comparative analysis of state-of-the-art algorithms within our graph database framework, highlighting the efficacy of our protocol in the broader context of drug repurposing research. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Succession planning is important in organization management. It is a strategic level management that involves not only finding the best successor but also including the development program for the successor so that they will be ready for the new prospective position. The integration and collaboration between all related stakeholders are important. Specifically, in succession planning at higher education, key positions play an important role so that institutional operations can run well. In this research, a succession planning model in higher education was built using the Systematic Literature Review(SLR), and the Software Development Lifecycle(SDLC) method was used for the application development, also, to be able to evaluate the implementation of one of the steps of the model, the simulation technique used machine learning (ML) to find the best algorithm for predicting the readiness of potential successors at higher education. Six algorithms were used: Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, K-Nearest Neighbor, Linear Discriminant Analysis, Gaussian Naïve Bayes, and Support Vector Machine. The data prepared for the simulation is based on the factors for the best successor candidate. The results obtained in this research are the succession planning model and the application design, as well as the Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm as the best algorithm for predicting the readiness status of successor candidates based on SVM’s accuracy score that is compared to the other algorithm in some variance amounts of data. The Succession Planning Model that is actualized in the application design provides a reference for the higher education institution to implement the Succession Model in their institution.

Light Fields (LFs) are a plenoptic image modality that provides more information on light rays, making them an excellent representation for immersive media. To compress such a modality, the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) committee created the JPEG Pleno Part 2 standard with two profiles. This work focuses on the reference encoder implementation for the Baseline Block-Based Profile (BBBP), called JPEG Pleno Model (JPLM). Our main contribution lies in the proposal and analysis of a parallel implementation of JPLM using OpenMP. We show that it is possible to accelerate encoding from nearly 2 to 10 times when using 2 to 16 threads, with a memory overhead ranging from 15% up to 78%, depending on the LF size. Moreover, the speedup comes with no cost in terms of coding efficiency, i.e., the LFs encoded with the proposed parallel version are bit-exact matches to ones encoded with the sequential version.

Blockchain Developer Experience: A Multivocal Literature Review

The rise of smart contracts has expanded blockchain’s capabilities, enabling the development of innovative decentralized applications (dApps). However, this advancement brings its own challenges, including the management of distributed architectures and immutable data. Addressing these complexities requires a specialized approach to software engineering, with blockchain-oriented practices emerging to support development in this domain. Developer Experience (DEx) is central to this effort, focusing on the usability, productivity, and overall satisfaction of tools and frameworks from the engineers’ perspective. Despite its importance, research on Blockchain Developer Experience (BcDEx) remains limited, with no systematic mapping of academic and industry efforts. To bridge this gap, we conducted a Multivocal Literature Review analyzing 62 to understand the distribution of BcDEx sources, practical implementations, and their impact. Our findings revealed that academic focus on BcDEx is limited compared to the coverage in gray literature, which primarily includes blogs (41.8%) and corporate sources (21.8%). Particularly, development efficiency, multi-network support, and usability are the most addressed aspects in tools and frameworks. In addition, we found that BcDEx is being shaped through five key perspectives: complexity abstraction, adoption facilitation, productivity enhancement, developer education, and BcDEx evaluation. © 2025, CC BY.

Deep-fake videos, generated through AI face-swapping techniques, have garnered considerable attention due to their potential for impactful impersonation attacks. While existing research primarily distinguishes real from fake videos, attributing a deep-fake to its specific generation model or encoder is crucial for forensic investigation, enabling precise source tracing and tailored countermeasures. This approach not only enhances detection accuracy by leveraging unique model-specific artifacts but also provides insights essential for developing proactive defenses against evolving deep-fake techniques. Addressing this gap, this article investigates the model attribution problem for deep-fake videos using two datasets-Deepfakes from Different Models (DFDM) and GANGen-Detection, which comprise deep-fake videos and images generated by GAN models. We select only fake images from the GANGen-Detection dataset to align with the DFDM dataset, which specifies the goal of this study, focusing on model attribution rather than real/fake classification. This study formulates deep-fake model attribution as a multiclass classification task, introducing a novel Capsule-Spatial-Temporal (CapST) model that effectively integrates a modified VGG19 (utilizing only the first 26 out of 52 layers) for feature extraction, combined with Capsule Networks and a Spatio-Temporal attention mechanism. The Capsule module captures intricate feature hierarchies, enabling robust identification of deep-fake attributes, while a video-level fusion technique leverages temporal attention mechanisms to process concatenated feature vectors and capture temporal dependencies in deep-fake videos. By aggregating insights across frames, our model achieves a comprehensive understanding of video content, resulting in more precise predictions. Experimental results on the DFDM and GANGen-Detection datasets demonstrate the efficacy of CapST, achieving substantial improvements in accurately categorizing deep-fake videos

The industry is rapidly transitioning from the 4.0 era to the 5.0 era, prompting renewed interest among scholars in scheduling problems. They allow operations to process and assemble various components simultaneously. This bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of the diverse research perspectives on the potential challenges of integrated scheduling within the framework. We identified 357 Scopus articles and analysed co-occurrence keyword (CNK) by VOSViewer tools and Global Citation Score (GCS) by Scopus tools. The research data obtained from 1993 to 2023 mainly in the subject areas of Engineering, computer science, Maths, and others. CNK identified six cluster keywords, and nine most cited articles based on normalised GCS. These results contribute to our understanding of the development of scheduling algorithms, shifting from an emphasis on manufacturing transfers to contemporary demand-centric research directions. Furthermore, this research provides a valuable perspective for policymakers, plant personnel, and manufacturing managers to make informed decisions.

Data-Driven Incentive Mechanisms for Federated Learning in Vehicular Networks

Centralized machine learning algorithms in vehicular networks face privacy and resource constraints. Federated Learning (FL) addresses these by enabling collaborative model training without sharing raw data. To incentivize vehicle participation despite resource constraints, we propose a contract between Roadside Units (RSUs) and vehicles, specifying required computation resources and rewards based on local data quality. The contract is designed to maximize the utility of the RSU, subject to constraints that ensure the participation of the vehicles in the task and truthful reporting of their data quality parameter. However, designing an optimal contract with classical methods is limited to specific utility functions. To extend the design methodology of optimal contracts to a broader range of utility functions, our study proposes a deep learning-based solution. Specifically, we present a novel application of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), marking the first instance of applying DNNs in contract theory-based incentive mechanisms to achieve nearoptimal contracts. We design the DNN's structure to inherently satisfy specific constraints of the optimization problem, enhancing its efficiency and accuracy in determining the optimal contract. We utilize an augmented Lagrangian method to approximate the optimal contract in federated learning tasks. A case study on traffic sign recognition demonstrates the applicability and effectiveness of our method. Comparing our approach with the well-known generative diffusion model shows that in the FL scenarios, the DNN results are closer to the optimal contract compared to those of the generative diffusion model. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Recess gate etching is a critical technique for achieving enhancement-mode (E-mode) AlGaN/GaN high-electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) because the interface is susceptible to the etching damage. This study fabricates recess gates using the neutral beam etching (NBE) technique. By adjusting the aperture thickness in the NBE apparatus, we simulate both NB-mode and plasma-mode etching. The electrical characteristics of E-mode HEMTs fabricated using these two modes are analyzed and compared through DC, noise, and pulsed IV measurements. The results demonstrate that NB-recessed HEMTs exhibit superior performance. © 1980-2012 IEEE.
