The process of creating physical data visualizations is not a trivial task. In general, it may require skills from the user in information visualization, tangible interaction, 3D modeling, fabrication of physical objects, etc. In addition, few works have presented computational support to the entire digital and physical rendering pipeline of data visualization, characterizing many steps of this process as manual. From this context, this work presents a process that facilitates the generation of physical data visualization. Besides that, It allows one to define which type of physical visualization to create, among passive, rearrangeable, and dynamic physicalization types. Finally, the pipelines for each physicalization type are presented, with scenarios including physical bar charts, stacked bar charts, and grouped bar charts.

Dataset management systems are essential for assisting research and development (R&D) organizations in applying data governance protocols, especially in managing the utilization of datasets. In R&D, datasets are vital sources for producing analysis, machine learning prediction, and supporting decision-making. As such, it is important to deploy dataset management systems with considerations regarding the aspects of Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability (CIA) which is a design principle that emphasized information protection and collaboration facilitation among dataset users. The study proposed an analysis and a design for a dataset management system that takes CIA aspects into account. In the future, the proposed design will be utilized as a benchmark for building a dataset management system. In this study, the Waterfall method was adopted. A use case diagram, an ERD (Entity Relationship Diagram), and an activity diagram were constructed in the design stage. In the project implementation stage, the Laravel framework including Laravel Jetstream was considered to be used.

As the dengue infection still impacts hundreds of millions of people globally, unprecedented efforts in dengue drug development have been more progressive in recent decades. Computational methods provide a fast, sustainable, and efficient screening of active compounds and newly created drug molecules, including those specifically targeting nonstructural proteins (NS) of dengue viruses. In this work, protein modeling for the NS proteins of DENV-2/16681 strain was performed using a template-based homology modeling for the NS3 protein and an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based prediction via AlphaFold for the NS4B protein. Moreover, the protein-protein interaction between the two structures was predicted using the HADDOCK server, which employs information about active and passive residues of the interaction interface to guide the docking process. After the modeling and its respective refinement process, the predicted structures of NS3 and NS4B improved their steric clashing scoring from MolProbity assessment. The refined models were then docked, and the resulting docking pose was analyzed to extract the interacting residues based on the polar contacts within the interface of the two proteins. Our result presents a preliminary study to create a dataset related to in silico molecular interactions of the NS3-NS4B interaction of different DENV types. It is helpful for building a computational pipeline for elucidating protein-ligand problems in dengue drug screenings.

This paper presents a fast intra mode decision solution for the VVC standard using machine learning. The idea is to reorder the evaluation of modes performed by the Rate-Distortion Optimization (RDO) process according to the modes occurrence rate. Based on the new evaluation order, three Decision Tree models were trained to skip the modes less likely to be chosen. The results show that the proposed solution achieves time savings of up to 15.57% with coding efficiency degradation of only 0.41% on average. When compared with related works, the proposed solution shows competitive results.

This study aims to review academic research publications on techniques that deal with the shortcomings of classic information visualization charts. This review used snowballing to capture the academic papers and applied a filter to focus on articles that developed a new technique, resulting in 28 articles. We proposed some research questions and a taxonomy to classify the papers and conduct a detailed analysis of each study. In this way, the study identified one solution proposal per article that makes use of one or more of the ten (10) visual shortcomings mitigation techniques found for each of the five (5) problems related to Visual shortcomings that affect one of the five (5) information visualization techniques. As a result, we found solutions and mapped them to each of the identified visual shortcomings, including overlap, outliers, categorical occlusion, misuse of space, and non-perceptible elements. These solutions help to minimize the problem as a whole or in part, making it easier for the user to understand the information in the graphs. This article characterizes an initial effort to study academic papers that solved or mitigated shortcomings in classical information visualization charts.

STEM (science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) courses are male-dominated spaces where women are the minority most of the time. Even now, when women are the majority in universities, the computerscience and engineering degrees are still uneven when it comes to gender. There have been interesting initiatives in the past Frontiers In Education (FIE) conferences about several of the issues related to bringing more girls into the computerscience and engineering fields of study. Some of these works typically address one or more challenges associated with increasing the number of women in computerscience and engineering by using different approaches and targeting different age groups. The majority of the studied works focus on raising awareness through the development of boot camps, workshops, programs and other initiatives. Other works investigate the attitude towards computing careers and the lack of interest in these areas by female students, regardless of age. There are also works that are focused on female student's retention and success in their academic degrees. All of the reviewed works have one major goal in common: bringing more girls into STEM fields, such as engineering and computerscience. In order to achieve this goal, the existing initiatives employ disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches. Although the majority of the work's main technical focus is on teaching programming, this is achieved by using a variety of approaches and resources. For example, there are works aimed at developing digital games, approaches that use robotics with Arduino and also approaches that integrate computerprogramming with musical instruments, among others. We did not find a study that aggregated and analyzed these initiatives. Recent literature reviews point out that active data physicalizations still lack evaluation scenarios. These evaluations mainly focus on the perception of visual and physical characteristics of physicalizations and users' performance of analysis tasks. This paper addresses a proposed accuracy assessment of data physicalization for data representation. The data physicalization used is a physical and dynamic bar chart using 3D printed models (3D bars) and LED strips inside the bars, both controlled by microcontrollers (Arduino), being possible to represent different datasets. The accuracy assessment of this physicalization is based on the height and color of the 3D bars. For this, distance sensors measure the actual height values of the bars, and a computer vision camera/algorithm collects and estimates the RGB value of the bars. From original and measured values datasets, bar charts images are built to perform a similarity comparison between the images. The similarity metric is used as an accuracy metric of the bar heights to represent data and obtained as initial results value higher than 96%. Furthermore, an evaluation scenario of the distance between the reference and measured colors 2000) classifies most of them as having proper perception. Additionally, the accuracy loss was evaluated on data physicalization in a scenario of continuous use (ten configurations without any calibration), and the variation of errors was around 2%.
