Hydroxyapatite(HA)is a representative substance that induces bone *** research team extracted nanohydroxyapatite(EH)from natural resources,especially equine bones,and developed it as a molecular biological ***(PEI)was used to coat the EH to develop a gene *** verify that PEI is well coated in the EH,we first observed the morphology and dispersity of PEI-coated EH(pEH)by electron *** pEH particles were well distributed,while only the EH particles were not distributed and ***,the existence of nitrogen elements of PEI on the surface of the pEH was confirmed by EDS,calcium concentration measurement and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).Additionally,the pEH was confirmed to have a more positive charge than the 25 kD PEI by comparing the zeta *** a result of pGL3 transfection,pEH was better able to transport genes to cells than 25 kD *** verification as a gene carrier for pEH,we induced osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs by loading the BMP-2 gene in pEH(BMP-2/pEH)and delivering it to the *** a result,it was confirmed that osteogenic differentiation was promoted by showing that the expression of osteopontin(OPN),osteocalcin(OCN),and runt-related transcription factor 2(RUNX2)was significantly increased in the group treated with BMP-2/*** conclusion,we have not only developed a novel nonviral gene carrier that is better performing and less toxic than 25 kD PEI by modifying natural HA(the agricultural byproduct)but also proved that bone differentiation can be effectively promoted by delivering BMP-2 with pEH to stem cells.

Effects of chain-chain interaction on the configuration of short-chain alkanethiol self-assembled monolayers on a metal surface

Surface-specific sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy is applied to study the molecular configuration of short-chain n-alkanethiol self-assembled monolayers (SAMs with n = 2-6) on the Au surface. For monolayers with n ≥ 3, the alkanethiols are upright-oriented, with the CH₃ tilt angle varying between ∼33° and ∼46° in clear even-odd dependency. The ethanethiol monolayer (n = 2) is, however, found to exhibit a distinct lying-down configuration with a larger methyl tilt angle (67°-79°) and a smaller CH₂ tilt angle (56°-68°). Such a unique configurational transition from n = 2 to n ≥ 3 discloses the steric effect owing to chain-chain interaction among neighboring molecules. Through density functional theory calculations, the transition is further confirmed to be energetically favorable for thiols on a defective reconstructed Au(111) surface but not on the pristine one. Our study highlights the roles of the chain-chain interaction and the substrate surface atomic structure when organizing SAMs, offering a strategic pathway for exploiting their applications. © 2024 Author(s).

Schizophrenia (SZ) is a prevalent mental disorder characterized by cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes. Symptoms of SZ include hallucinations, illusions, delusions, lack of motivation, and difficulties in concentration. While the exact causes of SZ remain unproven, factors such as brain injuries, stress, and psychotropic drugs have been implicated in its development. SZ can be classified into different types, including paranoid, disorganized, catatonic, undifferentiated, and residual. Diagnosing SZ involves employing various tools, including clinical interviews, physical examinations, psychological evaluations, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), and neuroimaging techniques. Electroencephalography (EEG) recording is a significant functional neuroimaging modality that provides valuable insights into brain function during SZ. However, EEG signal analysis poses challenges for neurologists and scientists due to the presence of artifacts, long-term recordings, and the utilization of multiple channels. To address these challenges, researchers have introduced artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, encompassing conventional machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) methods, to aid in SZ diagnosis. This study reviews papers focused on SZ diagnosis utilizing EEG signals and AI methods. The introduction section provides a comprehensive explanation of SZ diagnosis methods and intervention techniques. Subsequently, review papers in this field are discussed, followed by an introduction to the AI methods employed for SZ diagnosis and a summary of relevant papers presented in tabular form. Additionally, this study reports on the most significant challenges encountered in SZ diagnosis, as identified through a review of papers in this field. Future directions to overcome these challenges are also addressed. The discussion section examines the specific details of each paper, culminating in the presentation of conclusions and findings. © 2023,

The intent of the article is to present a wearable system for assessing the physical fitness of team members in an ICE (isolated, confined and extreme) environment. A device enables recording, preprocessing and sending the measured MoCap and EMG data in real time to the PC. The system is composed of new HW, SW and ICT tools. Sensors of the system can be placed on selected body segments and in the exercise equipment structure to monitor motion and EMG data during exercises. The purpose of the unique system is to enable the examination and elimination of the effects of the ICE environment on various aspects of the subject's physical fitness. The system will enable the maintenance of sufficient physical activity and fitness of teams working or staying in ICE environments, thus increasing the safety and efficiency of teams' work and stay.

REPEAT ANALYSIS program AS A QUALITY ASSURANCE system FOR RADIOLOGY MANAGEMENT: CAUSAL REPEAT AND AN OVERVIEW

OBJECTIVEThis paper aims to describe the image retakes program over several decades, and identify the causes of issues due to rejection rates. MATERIALS & METHODSThis study is a literature review using the Preferred Reporting Items for systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. Articles were searched from Google Scholar (3140) and Scopus (18) using keywords " Reject" or " Repeat" or " Retakes" and " Analysis" and " in" and " Diagnostic" and " Imaging". The article range was expanded to describe the profile of repeat analysis from the use of film-screen to digital transformation systems. Based on the established criteria, 20 articles were extracted and analyzed. RESULTSFrom the literature, it was found that repeat rates above 5% were still found in some examination categories, with chest radiography contributing the highest rejection rate, reaching 51.67%, with the biggest contributing factor being positioning (84.8%). There are interesting findings related to this program, where subjective factors in determining the classification of rejection causes still exist. One study mentioned that AI can predict image rejection accuracy with a sensitivity of 93%. Therefore, the use of AI can be very helpful in classifying rejection causes, making data available for more efficient and easier radiology management. CONCLUSIONRepeat program is part of image quality management. The justification for rejection decisions still poses a challenge related to personnel's subjective factors and determining the causes of rejection/repeat must also be done to obtain concrete data related to radiography performance.

Nature-based solutions (NBS) are actions to protect, sustainably manage, or restore natural ecosystems. They are increasingly recognized worldwide as a key strategy for sustainable development, integrating climate change adaptation and mitigation and biodiversity conservation. NBS is fundamental to the quality of life of residents, and urban planning often includes strategies that are directly or indirectly related to greening. Although numerous studies have been conducted to quantitatively evaluate the benefits of NBS, analysis of the potential effect of NBS remains insufficient. Therefore, we developed a spatial decision-making support model that optimizes the location of NBS on multiple effects (biomass density, urban heat stress mitigation, and landscape connectivity) using a Non-Sorting dominated Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II). Potential was assessed by comparing the NBS plan considering co-benefits with NBS strategy scenarios focused on individual objectives connectivity, biomass density, heat stress based scenario(CBS, BBS, and HBS). The model was applied to Suwon City, South Korea, demonstrating the potential of an integrated approach to maximize co-benefits simultaneously. The analysis revealed a trade-off between NBS benefits and implementation costs, with performance improvement in one objective often leading to decreased performance in others. Correlation analysis revealed significant positive correlations among the three objectives, with heat stress showing the lowest correlation. Simulations under four distinct scenarios highlighted the diverse potential arrangements of NBS and their effects. An integrated strategy demonstrated a consistently high overall value (a 221% improvement), which proved to be the most efficient approach when considering all aspects collectively. This study underscores the potential benefits of integrating multiple objectives into urban green space planning, thereby providing valuable insights for sustainable urban development.

In this work, we propose a deep artificial neural network (D-ANN) to estimate the work function fluctuation (WKF) on 4-channel stacked gate-all-around (GAA) silicon (Si) nanosheet (NS) and nanofin (NF) MOSFET devices for the first time. The 2-layered simple deep model can well predict the transfer characteristics for both NS/NF FET with a large number of (128) input features, utilizing considerably lesser (1100 samples) data uniformly. The resultant model is evaluated by the $\mathrm{R}^{2}$ score and RMSE to witness its competency and the average error is $< 4\%$ . We do also discuss the circuit simulation possibility by applying the ANN approach.

Improper feeding methods can be linked to canine behaviour problems, as the conventional bowl-feeding approach fail to mimic natural behaviour and is associated with obesity. Feeding toys can potentially contribute to the enhancement of dog behaviour by mimicking natural hunting behaviour and promoting increased canine activity. Para rubber is a natural rubber with high flexibility and is tolerant of animal teeth, making it safer for animals compared to plastic and silicone. This study had two main objectives: firstly, to examine dogs' preferences for the scent and colour added to a para rubber product;and secondly, to explore the impact of using para rubber feeding toys on dog behaviours. The feeding toys were produced from natural rubber, with added scents and colours incorporated during their production. Subsequently, these toys were distributed to dog owners for evaluation. Owners completed the Thai version of the C-BARQ questionnaire, which evaluate canine behaviour both prior to and following a month of interaction with the toys. The findings indicated that dogs exhibited a preference for yellow toys over blue ones, as well as a preference for vanilla-scented toys compared to those with a beef scent. Following one month of consistent use of the para rubber toy, dogs tended to reduce various undesirable behaviours. Notably, overexcitement behaviour showed a nearly threefold decrease, and this reduction was statistically significant (p = 0.003). These outcomes emphasise the potential of natural rubber feeding toys in mitigating excitation-related behaviours, while also highlighting dogs' preference towards specific colours and scents. Consequently, there is a suggestion that enhancing toys with appealing scents or colours might foster greater interaction between dogs and their toys, potentially leading to a positive influence on their overall behavioural welfare. © 2023, The Authors. Curcumin, a potent natural compound known for its health benefits, encounters challenges such as low bioavailability and poor solubility. To overcome these obstacles, incorporating curcumin into metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has emerged as a promising approach. This study explores the in-situ modification of UiO-66-NH2 (UiO stands for Universitetet i Oslo) with curcumin, aiming to assess its release and delivery potential. Chemical, structural, morphological, and textural analyses confirmed the successful synthesis of the materials. Nitrogen sorption isotherm, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that curcumin addition led to decrease in surface area (from 829.6 m2/g to 679.92 m2/g) and porosity, as well as alterations in particle size (from 0.162 to 0.068 μm) and shape from octahedral to spherical. The release behavior of curcumin exhibited pH-dependent profiles, with cumulative releases (∼20 % at pH 4.8, and 30.56 % at pH 7.4) fitting Kosmeyer-Peppas model. Biological activity assays indicated non-toxicity, suggesting potential for curcumin delivery. © 2024
