Injection Molding (IM) is the most important process for mass-producing plastic products. The difficulty of optimizing an IM process is that the performance measures (PMs), usually show conflicting behavior. The aim of this work is to demonstrate a method utilizing CAE, statistical testing, artificial neural networks (ANNs), and data envelopment analysis (DEA) to find the best compromises between multiple PMs and their variability. Two case studies are presented. A case study based on a virtual part is presented in detail in order to illustrate this method. The second case study is experimentally based, using the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) mold, to illustrate how this approach applies when only experimental results are available.

Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a population-based swarm intelligence algorithm driven by the simulation of a social psychological metaphor instead of the survival of the fittest individual. Based on the swarm intelligence theory, this paper discusses the use of PSO with a Quasi-Newton (QN) local search method. The PSO is used to produce good potential solutions, and the QN is used to fine-tune of final solution of PSO. The hybrid methodology is validated for a test system consisting of 13 thermal units whose incremental fuel cost function takes into account the valve-point loading effects.

We recently proposed the novel gene-regulation polymer responding to cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA). However this polymer alone only had poor ability for the gene delivery into living cells. Thus it is difficult to evaluate the function of this polymer in living cells. On the other hand, it has been reported Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) peptides modified polymer was efficiently deliveried genes into cells. In the present study, we modified the signal responsive polymer to RGD peptide for the introduction of polymer-DNA complex into living cells.
