The growing focus on microcredentials emphasizes the urgent need for precise and widely accepted definitions, as existing uncertainties hinder their effective implementation. This research aims to investigate the comprehension of microcredentials definitions in the context of higher education by conducting a systematic literature review. The goal is to identify current definitions of microcredentials to facilitate standardization initiatives. Following The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology to systematically search in Scopus database within 2019-2024 resulting 940 articles, by removing the duplicates, 280 articles were initially reviewed, with 29 selected for detailed thematic analysis based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. By adapting the six phases of thematic analysis, selected articles were identified analyzed, organized, described, and themes found the data set were reported. Key findings reveal that, while a universally accepted definition is lacking, common themes emerge: microcredentials are competency-based, modular, portable, stackable, and often include quality assurance. These attributes highlight microcredentials as valuable for upskilling and reskilling in a flexible manner. The study concludes that establishing standard definitions can increase the recognition and utility of microcredentials across educational and professional sectors and recommends further research to strengthen core elements for consistency. © 2024 IEEE.

When providing patient care, healthcare professionals often rely on interpreting laboratory and clinical test results. However, their analysis is constrained by human capacity, leading to uncertainties in diagnoses. Machine learning has the potential to evaluate a larger amount of data and identify patterns and relationships that may otherwise go unnoticed. However, popular machine learning algorithms typically require abundant and labeled data, which is not always available. To address this challenge, the adoption of active learning allows for the selection of the most relevant instances for training, reducing the need for extensive labeling. Additionally, fuzzy logic offers the ability to handle uncertainties. This paper proposes a novel approach that utilizes fuzzy membership functions to transform data as a pre-processing step for active learning. The objective is to approximate similar instances, specifically for the purpose of prediction, thereby minimizing the workload of human experts in labeling data for model training. The results of this study demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in predicting heart disease and highlight the potential of using membership functions to enhance machine learning models in the analysis of medical information. By incorporating fuzzy logic and active learning, healthcare professionals can benefit from improved accuracy and efficiency in diagnosing and predicting pacients’ health conditions. © 2024 – IOS Press.

Dynamic Sampling-Based Meta-Learning Using Multilingual Acoustic Data for Under-Resourced Speech Recognition

Under-resourced automatic speech recognition (ASR) has become an active field of research and has experienced significant progress during the past decade. However, the performance of under-resourced ASR trained by existing methods is still far inferior to high-resourced ASR for practical applications. In this paper, speech data from languages that share the most phonemes with the under-resourced language are selected as supplementary resources for meta-training based on the Model-Agnostic Meta-Learning (MAML) strategy. Besides supplementary language selection, this paper proposes a dynamic sampling method instead of the original random sampling method to select support and query sets for each task in MAML to improve meta-training performance. In this study, Taiwanese is selected as the under-resourced language, and the speech corpus of five languages, including Mandarin, English, Japanese, Cantonese, and Thai, are chosen as supplementary training data for acoustic model training. The proposed dynamic sampling approach uses phonemes, pronunciation, and speech recognition models as the basis to determine the proportion of each supplementary language to select helpful utterances for MAML. For evaluation, with the selected utterances from each supplementary language for meta-training, we obtained a Word Error Rate of 20.24% and a Syllable Error Rate of 8.35% for Taiwanese ASR, which were better than the baseline model (26.18% and 13.99%) using only the Taiwanese corpus and other methods. © 2013 IEEE.

As social beings, humans like to interact with each other, including other creatures of God, such as animals, and keep them as pets. Many pets, such as dogs, cats, birds, fish, rabbits, and so on, include unusual pets such as reptiles, pigs, insects, etc. As a result of the lack of human awareness of pets and the nature of keeping animals, which is only for fun, it is not soulful to keep animals. So when people are bored, they abandon their pets, which causes new problems in human life today. In this case, we created a mobile application that can be shared with pet lovers where they can share information about abandoned pets and the possibility of owning pets from these abandoned pets. Mobile applications were designed using use case diagrams to show business processes, class diagrams to show database models, and user interfaces to present a similar interface to users. This mobile application will become a platform that can gather all people who care about pets and make pets a part of humans. © 2024 IEEE.

Information security risk is of utmost importance and a crucial concern, particularly within a clinical laboratory responsible for managing sensitive public health information. Various endeavors have been undertaken by institutions to tackle this pressing challenge effectively. This research seeks to develop a computer-based decision model for assessing information security risks. The model is scientifically constructed using the fuzzy logic method as its core approach and designed through an object-oriented approach. Impressively, the model successfully simulates 31 risk scenarios with an accuracy rate of 93.55%. © 2023 IEEE.

Education stands out as one of the most impactful applications of the metaverse, holding immense potential for the future. Within the realm of satellite communication system science education, the integration of immersive learning through the metaverse adds a layer of interest and interactivity to the teaching and learning process. Numerous design and evaluation techniques have been employed in a growing body of research, aiming to understand how immersive learning via the metaverse can effectively contribute to specific educational objectives. Hence, this research is dedicated to delving into the development of an immersive learning metaverse model for the science of satellite communication systems. The research contributes a model that advocates for a holistic learning approach by integrating metaverse technology, VR, the 6E Instructional Process Model, and the MSLQ evaluation instrument. The objective of this model is to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and interactivity of learning within the field of satellite communication systems science. © 2024 IEEE.

This research explores the optimization of digital talent in advanced industries, particularly in the context of rapid digital transformation. Despite the increasing importance of digital talent for gaining a competitive edge, several challenges persist. In Indonesia, for example, there is a significant shortage of digitally skilled workers, with the World Bank reporting a gap of 9 million skilled individuals over the past 15 years. Additionally, artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to impact 9.5 million jobs, further exacerbating the demand for digital skills. Furthermore, the employability of graduates remains low, largely due to inadequate training, poor language proficiency, and limited cultural sensitivity. Many companies face difficulties in finding qualified individuals, quickly upskilling their workforce, and fostering an innovative organizational culture. This study seeks to evaluate the factors influencing digital talent performance in the context of these challenges. It examines seven key variables: digital readiness, digital technology adoption, relevance of AI, digital skills, individual performance, problem-solving ability, and overall digital talent performance. Hypotheses were tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Data was collected from 378 participants, primarily students with STEM backgrounds, in the Jabodetabek area of Indonesia in November 2024. The findings reveal that all hypotheses are significant, with results indicating that user satisfaction and the perceived value of digital talent in Indonesia have a notable impact on continued usage intentions in digital roles. © 2024 IEEE.

Text summarization is a natural language processing (NLP) technique in artificial intelligence that has been studied in recent years. Every document containing text is tested to get a good summary result. In producing a good summary, proper accuracy is required;therefore, various techniques and methods are used, and another challenge is the use of language in the documents being tested. Various types of documents have been used as research for text summarization, including scientific documents, so researchers are interested in studying them more intensely to get the state of the art in research. This research was conducted to review previous research using literature studies from various publications that published research on text summarization in scientific documents. The researcher collected data from several publishers who had published this type of research from 1988 to 2023 quarter 1 and obtained three hundred and eleven articles, then the researcher analyzed the data using the Kitchenham method to get the right literature to answer the research question. Thirty-seven articles were selected for further in-depth analysis. In addition, the researcher found some interesting findings beyond the research question, including other techniques used to solve the text summarization problem and other types of output that are not commonly produced so that it can increase knowledge in researching text summarization. © 2023 IEEE.

In the digital era, digital talent development has become increasingly vital for organizations and economies to thrive. While much focus has been placed on technical skills, this report emphasizes the often-overlooked role of soft skills in developing digital talent. Through an extensive literature review and data analysis, the study identifies that soft skills are crucial in enhancing digital talent performance. This research explores the factors that influence Digital Talent Performance in Indonesia, specifically comparing the performance levels of male and female digital talents. Data were collected from college students in the Jabodetabek area (cities surrounding Jakarta, Indonesia) using a purposive sampling method, with an online questionnaire distributed to 378 respondents. The study utilized Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to analyze the collected data using SmartPLS 4.1. software. Key variables examined include Communication Skills, Teamwork, Emotional Intelligence, Academic Achievement, Problem-Solving, Digital Readiness, Digital Skills, Digital Technology, and Digital Talent Performance. Out of the nine hypotheses tested, one was not statistically significant. The results suggest that a combination of both technical and soft skills significantly affects digital talent performance, with important gender-based differences in performance levels emerging from the analysis. This research contributes to understanding Indonesia's complex dynamics of digital talent development. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper describes the automation of a forearm prosthesis using the signal collected by a Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor. The FBG sensor is applied to one subject's forearm to measure the deformation as a result of the index and middle fingers when moved individually. It is possible to control a one joint model prosthesis allied to a compliant hand mechanism through signal analyses. Each finger movement has its features, such as its amplitude, which opens the possibility of using those to control different parts of the prosthesis, joint rotation by the middle finger, and compliant hand movement by the index finger. This paper presents results regarding prosthesis assembling, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) communication latency between prosthesis and computer and tests with pre-acquired and processed FBG signal data. The prosthesis wrist rotation movement is related to the middle finger signal, and its compliant mechanism actuation is due to index finger signal. The communication between prosthesis and the computer had a mean latency of 140 ms and a standard deviation of 18 ms. The results demonstrate the potential for using the sensor system and automated prosthesis in other applications involving real-time forearm sensing, multi-finger signal analysis, and prosthetic movement. © 2023 SBMO/SBMag.
