Classification of the Structural Integrity by the General Vibration Method

Traditionally, for the purpose of classifying the integrity of an engineering structure, one may use the information of the natural frequencies or mode shapes or some other measures derived from the two. In this research, we propose a classification method on the basis of the general vibration model. The general vibration model is essentially a set of differential equations describing the dynamics of the structure under consideration. For the purpose of damage detection, a deviation of the general vibration model from the dynamic equilibrium point marks the occurrence of the damage. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the method, we study two simplest dynamical systems consisting of one- and two-concentrated masses subjected to a prescribed dynamic load. The structural damages are introduced artificially by reducing the stiffness of spring in the structures. We find that the general vibration model is more sensitive to damages than the traditional methods.

Phased arrays are crucial in various technologies, such as radar and wireless communications, due to their ability to precisely control and steer electromagnetic waves. This precise control improves signal processing and enhances imaging performance. However, extending phased arrays to the terahertz (THz) frequency range has proven challenging, especially for high-frequency operation, broadband performance, two-dimensional (2D) phase control with large antenna arrays, and strong phase modulation. Here, we introduce a photonic platform to realize a THz phased array that bypasses the above challenges. Our method employs 2D phase coding with 2-bit across a broad THz frequency range from 0.8 to 1.4 THz. The core of our design is a pixelated nonlinear Pancharatnam-Berry metasurface driven by a spatially modulated femtosecond laser, allowing precise phase control of THz signals. We showcase the effectiveness of our method through four proof-of-concept applications: single beamforming, dual beamforming, imaging and vortex beam generation. The realized photonic platform provides a promising pathway for developing broadband phased arrays in the THz regime. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A Study of the Sensitivity of the Fuel Consumption to Driving Strategy by Micro Simulation

Global warming due to excessive emission greenhouse gases is a significant issue faced by humanity, and collectively, cars and trucks contribute about 20% to the entire global-warming gases. For a reason, recently, many attempts have been endured to reduce the emission and to increase fuel efficiency, including vehicle platooning, better driving strategy, and increasing engine efficiency. This study intends to provide a more detail assessment regarding the effects of the driving strategy to fuel consumption. For the purpose, the vehicle dynamics are quantified by employing the car-following model based on the optimal velocity model. The fuel consumption is estimated from the regression model of Ahn 18 . The result suggests that the braking distance strongly affects fuel consumption.

IT Governance are one of the needs in managing Enterprise Level IT. This study shows part of the decision domain of IT Governance Help, which are IT Investment and Prioritization. The purpose of this study is to determine feasibility of implementation open source ERP system Odoo project management module that replaces current system based on operational, economic, and technical aspects. The method used are Fit / Gap Analysis and Cost Benefit model using economic impact worksheet. The analysis is done by comparing the requirement with features owned by current system and Odoo ERP system. This research resulted that Odoo ERP System is feasible in the 3 aspects, the operational feasibility Odoo reaching 72% Fit, the economic feasibility with ROI of 84%, and technical feasibility indicating the technical requirement can be fulfilled by leasing AWS server. The conclusion is the open source ERP system Odoo project management module is feasible to be applied in terms of 3 aspects that have been studied, those are operational, economic, and technical.

Antigen-specific T cells play an essential role in immunoregulation and many diseases such as cancer. Characterizing the T cell receptor (TCR) sequences that encode T cell specificity is critical for elucidating the antigenic determinants of immunological diseases and designing therapeutic remedies. However, methods of obtaining single-cell TCR sequencing data are labor and cost intensive, typically requiring both cell sorting and full length single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq). New high-throughput 3' cell-barcoding scRNA-seq methods can simplify and scale this process;however, they do not routinely capture TCR sequences during library preparation and sequencing. While 5' cell-barcoding scRNA-seq methods can be used to examine TCR repertoire at single-cell resolution, doing so requires specialized reagents which cannot be applied to samples previously processed using 3' cell-barcoding methods. Here, we outline a method for sequencing TCRα and TCRβ transcripts from samples already processed using 3' cell-barcoding scRNA-seq platforms, ensuring TCR recovery at a single-cell resolution. In short, a fraction of the 3' barcoded whole transcriptome amplification (WTA) product typically used to generate a massively parallel 3' scRNA-seq library is enriched for TCR transcripts using biotinylated probes, and further amplified using the same universal primer sequence from WTA. Primer extension using TCR V-region primers and targeted PCR amplification using a second universal primer results in a 3' barcoded single-cell CDR3-enriched library that can be sequenced with custom sequencing primers. Coupled with 3' scRNA-seq of the same WTA, this method enables simultaneous analysis of single-cell transcriptomes and TCR sequences which can help interpret inherent heterogeneity among antigen-specific T cells and salient disease biology. The method presented here can also be adapted readily to enrich and sequence other transcripts of interest from both 3' and 5' barcoded scRNA-seq

When a charged particle penetrates through an optical interface, photon emissions emerge—a phenomenon known as transition radiation. Being paramount to fundamental physics, transition radiation has enabled many applications from high-energy particle identification to novel light sources. A rule of thumb in transition radiation is that the radiation intensity generally decreases with the decrease of particle velocity v; as a result, low-energy particles are not favored in practice. Here, we find that there exist situations where transition radiation from particles with extremely low velocities (e.g., v/c<10−3) exhibits comparable intensity as that from high-energy particles (e.g., v/c=0.999), where c is the light speed in free space. The comparable radiation intensity implies an extremely high photon extraction efficiency from low-energy particles, up to 8 orders of magnitude larger than that from high-energy particles. This exotic phenomenon of low-velocity-favored transition radiation originates from the interference of the excited Ferrell-Berreman modes in an ultrathin epsilon-near-zero slab. Our findings may provide a promising route toward the design of integrated light sources based on low-energy electrons and specialized detectors for beyond-standard-model particles.

The rapid growth of e-commerce for sustainable industry in Indonesia leads to competition for customer acquisition. Instead of gaining loyalty, customers are trapped in a price war and take advantage to compare and choose the one with the best offer. This study aims to analyze important factors of an online retailer to determine customer loyalty in the productive age group. This study contributes to design a questionnaire that can be utilized in analyzing customer loyalty to a retailer in e-commerce (popularly known as the term e-tailer). The questionnaire can be distributed through the Internet to gather demography, population, and e-loyalty factors. Questionnaire design is proposed containing three parts: Part A – Demography, Part B – Targeted Population, and Part C - e-Loyalty Factors. While Part A records basic information and Part B validates, Part C records respondent's assessment to an e - tailer. Therefore, the outcome delivers a data engineering method to help e-tailers determine important factors to gain customer loyalty.

Although the Brazilian "Bolsa Família" program (BFP) was largely discussed due to its economic and social outcomes, little is known about the Information systems (IS) that support BFP. In the context of BFP, CadÚnico system emerged as the registry for citizens who seek to qualify for BFP income transfers, as well as it is an important source of information for other public policies. This paper presents a case study of BFP’s evolution over decades through the CadÚnico *** analyze howthe CadÚnico system evolved in Brazil from a fragmented, offline databases in the early 2000 to a unified, online registry essential to BFP operation. Based on enrolment operations, the paper explains how CadÚnico first attracted other ministries from the Federal Government and later attracted municipalities to data registering. By analyzing BFP IS, we bring more evidences to the political and incremental nature of IS development in developing countries. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2020.

The use of therapeutic peptides for the treatment of cancer has received tremendous attention in recent years. Anticancer peptides (ACPs) are considered new anticancer drugs which have several advantages over chemistry-based drugs including high specificity, strong tumor penetration capacity, and low toxicity level for normal cells. Due to the rise of experimentally verified bioactive peptides, several in silico approaches became imperative for the investigation of the characteristics of ACPs. In this paper, we proposed a new machine learning tool named iACP-RF that uses a combination of several sequence-based features and an ensemble of three heterogeneously trained Random Forest classifiers to accurately predict anticancer peptides. Experimental results show that our proposed model achieves an accuracy of 75.9% which outperforms other state-of-the-art methods by a significant margin. We also achieve 0.52, 75.6%, and 76.2% in terms of Matthews Correlation Coefficient (MCC), Sensitivity, and Specificity, respectively. iACP-RF as a standalone tool and its source code are publicly available at: https://***/MLBC-lab/iACP-RF. © 2023 The Authors

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected countries across the world, demanding drastic public health policies to mitigate the spread of infection, leading to economic crisis as a collateral damage. In this work, we investigated the impact of human mobility (described via international commercial flights) on COVID-19 infection dynamics at the global scale. For this, we developed a graph neural network-based framework referred to as Dynamic Connectivity GraphSAGE (DCSAGE), which operates over spatiotemporal graphs and is well-suited for dynamically changing adjacency information. To obtain insights on the relative impact of different geographical locations, due to their associated air traffic, on the evolution of the pandemic, we conducted local sensitivity analysis on our model through node perturbation experiments. From our analyses, we identified Western Europe, North America, and Middle East as the leading geographical locations fueling the pandemic, attributed to the enormity of air traffic originating or transiting through these regions. We used these observations to identify tangible air traffic reduction strategies that can have a high impact on controlling the pandemic, with minimal interference to human mobility. Our work provides a robust deep learning-based tool to study global pandemics and is of key relevance to policy makers to take informed decisions regarding air traffic restrictions during future outbreaks. © 2022, CC BY-NC-SA.
