Sustainable improvement of food SMEs through halal certification: A meta-analysis

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are one of the important economic drivers in Indonesia, including during the Covid-19 pandemic. Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population requires halal certificates for all food products sold in Indonesia. Obstacles to the implementation and certification of halal in the food SME sector are still encountered due to, among others, the cost of certification, knowledge from human resources, ease of access and information. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of halal certification on financial performance in Food SMEs by employing the meta-analysis method. A number of six articles out of 55 articles were selected and integrated into a database. The data were analyzed based on the Hedges’ d (standardized mean difference/SMD) effect size values and confidence interval (CI) values by using the Open MEE software. The results showed that halal-certified food SMEs significantly increased sales (SMD: 3.182; 95% CI:1.228 to 5.136; p<0.001) as compared to those of food SMEs that were not halal-certified. In the location in the Indonesia subgroup, halal certification at Food SMEs in Bogor city had a higher sale (SMD: 12.105; 95% CI: 10.289 to 13.922; p<0.001) compared to other cities. The conclusion of this study is that halal certification enhances sales and thus contributes to the sustainability of food SMEs.

In the current industrial revolution, additive manufacturing (AM) embodies a promising technology that can enhance the effectiveness, adaptability, and competitiveness of supply chains (SCs). Moreover, it facilitates the development of distributed SCs, thereby enhancing product availability, inventory levels, and lead time. However, the wide adoption of AM in industrial SCs creates various challenges, leading to new difficulties for SC design. In this context, this paper proposes a new design approach to AM SCs using optimization methods. More specifically, the proposed approach, comprising the pmedian and mixed-integer linear programming models, considers the decision of deploying productive resources (3D printers) in specific locations of generic spare part SCs. The approach was evaluated in a real-world use case of an elevator maintenance service provider. The obtained results demonstrated the promising capabilities of the proposed design approach in managing the challenges arising from the forthcoming widespread use of 3D printers in manufacturing SCs. © 2020, CC-BY-NC-ND.

KAGRA, the underground and cryogenic gravitational-wave detector, was operated for its solo observation from February 25 to March 10, 2020, and its first joint observation with the GEO 600 detector from April 7 to April 21, 2020 (O3GK). This study presents an overview of the input optics systems of the KAGRA detector, which consist of various optical systems, such as a laser source, its intensity and frequency stabilization systems, modulators, a Faraday isolator, mode-matching telescopes, and a high-power beam dump. These optics were successfully delivered to the KAGRA interferometer and operated stably during the observations. The laser frequency noise was observed to limit the detector sensitivity above a few kilohertz, whereas the laser intensity did not significantly limit the detector sensitivity.

The importance of adopting the evolutionary maintenance is becoming increasingly long life of a software without it losing its quality and its functionalities, however performing evolutionary maintenance of legacy systems is not always an easy task, considering that these systems often have incomplete and inconsistent documentation or even that was lost over time. We want to understand what software process assets can help in the implementation of requirements development practices in evolutionary maintenance in adherence to CMMI-DEV model, how these assets can be used by requirements team and how this team evaluate this application. This paper aims to present an implementation approach of the RD (Requirements Development) process area of CMMI-DEV (Capability Maturity Model Integration for Development) in the Brazilian company, called Vibe Desenvolvimento, for evolutionary maintenance projects with data collection from reverse engineering, and perform the adherence analysis of the model implemented in relation to the process area studied, through the application of questionnaires to Requirements Analyst team of this company, and the analysis of the work products generated in each specific practice of RD process area. © ISCA, CATA 2017.

In general, the process of building construction makes the inevitable wastes such as nails, formwork, steel and concrete. In order to reduce these wastes, parts of building have therefore been produced by using the manufacturing process. This process can improve construction process with minimum wastes and time of construction. However, the manufacturing process is not completely effective for building construction. There is also an additional cost for the transportation from manufactory to the construction site. For this reason, to set the exact time of the construction process, to avoid material waste and to effectively reduce the construction cost, all the production processes of manufacturing building should be started and ended at construction sites. This research has studied the Lean Manufacturing Process (LMP) and applied to the process of the construction which is called "the building with the on-site manufacturing process, BMP" to reduce instable human resource by machines which provides three advantages as follows: 1) the better quality, 2) minimum constructing cost and 3) minimum constructing period. © 2018 International Association of Lowland technology. This work presents a real-time model of high impedance fault. The model allows full relay validation including different types of ground surface. The model is incorporated into OPAL-RT simulator and implemented in Hypersim software, a comparison with ATPdraw is performed. The process of leaf litter decomposition on the soil surface as a source of nutrition and food for soil fauna. Leaf litter decomposition rate is influenced by the activity of soil fauna, which is thought to increase the emission of carbondioxide from the soil. The aim of this research was to investigate the leaf decomposition rate and flux of carbon dioxide in various land cover. The research was conducted from July to November 2020 in Gunung Bromo Education Forest, Karanganyar, Central Java. This research used purposive sampling with nine land covers and three replications. The leaf decomposition rate was measured using the litterbag method, and flux of carbon dioxide was measured using the closed chamber method. The results suggested that the leaf decomposition rate was the fastest in Pine 2016 at 6.17 g/week, and the highest flux of carbon dioxide in Indonesian rosewood (Dalbergia sissoo) rejuvenation was 9,860 mg/CO2/day. The leaf decomposition rate was influenced by air temperature (p = 0.535) compared to humidity (p = - 0.257). Flux carbondioxide is influenced by air temperature (p = 0.854) compared to humidity (p = - 0.677), and the leaf decomposition rate affects the level of flux of carbon dioxide (p = 0.631).

The association between metal mixtures and kidney function has been reported. However, reports on the mechanism of metal toxicity were limited. Oxidative stress was reported as a possible cause. This study aimed to determine the association between of kidney function and metals, such as arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), cobalt (Co), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), selenium (Se), and zinc (Zn), and to explore the possible mediating role of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) between metal toxicity and kidney function. In this study, we recruited 421 adults from a health examination. The concentration of blood metals was analyzed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. We used linear regression models to assess the association between metals and TNF-α. Then, mediation analysis was applied to investigate the relationship between metal exposure, TNF-α, and kidney function. In univariate linear regression, blood As, Cd, Co, Cu, Pb, and Zn levels significantly increased TNF-α and decreased kidney function. Higher blood As and Pb levels significantly increased TNF-α in multivariable linear regressions after adjusting for covariates. We found that blood levels of As (coefficients = -0.021, p = 0.011), Pb (coefficients = -0.060, p < 0.001), and Zn (coefficients = -0.230, p < 0.001) showed a significant negative association with eGFR in the multiple-metal model. Furthermore, mediation analysis showed that TNF-α mediated 41.7 %, 38.8 %, and 20.8 % of blood Cd, As and Pb, respectively. Among the essential elements, TNF-α mediated 24.5 %, 21.5 % and 19.9 % in the effects of blood Co, Cu, and Zn on kidney function, respectively. TNF-α, acting as a mediator, accounted for 20.1 % of the contribution between the WQS score of metal mixtures and the eGFR (p < 0.001). This study suggested that TNF-α may be a persuasive pathway mediating the association between metals and kidney function. This paper presents the design of the new Thammapakon Pho Klang Nursing Home, Nakhon Ratchasima, as a modern model for Thai nursing homes. The nursing home is based on green-building, energy-saving and human-factors engineering principles and covers an area of 102,000 m2 (2,520 acres). The model includes the site design and the buildings of the nursing home, which conforms with green-building and energy-saving principles. The novel nursing home represents a practical approach to the optimization of building use and building resources in the areas of building utilization, water management, waste management, environmentally friendly materials selection, the effect of buildings on the health of building users and the environment, construction, operations, maintenance, and final demolition. The designed buildings include an office building, a hospital, a dormitory for the elderly, a canteen and a multipurpose building. The elderly’s facility design is based on universal design and human-factors engineering. Google’s SketchUp 8 program was used to design the layout of the buildings, the style and size of the openings around the buildings, the building envelope materials, and the position and types of vegetation around the building according to sun direction. It was determined that the overall thermal transmission values (OTTV) and the roof thermal transmission values (RTTV) of the designed buildings are within the prescribed energy-efficient building standard (OTTV 2 and RTTV 2). © 2018 International Association of Lowland technology. This work investigates strategic management processes of projects involved in the Brazilian aerospace field, addressing the Regional Center of the Amazon of the National Institute of Space Research. It proposes an approach in the monitoring of the evolution of projects by evaluation of professional performance, showing results in graphs and the need to survey and follow the most evident and significant technological advances in the mapping environment of land use and land cover in the Amazon. It addresses the main difficulties faced in the process of managing projects and people to achieve goals, needing to know the Geographic Information System tools used by employees, such as Terramazon, and their respective times consumed in this type of software. The work intends to serve as a basis for investigating, developing and implementing new management options that will reduce the efforts required by managers and administrators during the process of monitoring the evolution of projects.
