Collaborative techniques for business process design are generally supported by groupware tools that allow process actors to interact collecting their knowledge about the activities performed. Despite success reports, challenges are still observed due to the complexity of this task. We propose to gather benefits of interviews, collaboration and visual methods in eliciting business processes in order to deal with problems identified in literature. We present an approach based on a collaborative mobile application which analysts should use while interviewing process stakeholders. The information is collected through a simple BPMN diagram through which they exchange information and build parts of the models.

We research the multimedia information hiding (MIH) which is a technology to overlay digital information on multimedia contents such as picture, sound, document, etc. As application to disaster management of MIH, we have developed a new technology called "PAIH" (Public Address Information Hiding) which is a technology to overlay information such as position or destination on siren sound of urgent vehicles. Siren sound is allowed to degrade of sound quality, but PAIH is required to decode correct information from siren sound with pitch shift (Doppler effect) or under noisy environment.

The papers depict application of Rapid Impact Assessment Matrix (RIAM), in evaluating the impacts of construction of new marina and enhance the beaching area. In order to have an integrated approach for the impact assessment, the methodology of RIAM was used. RIAM is ideally suited to all EIA where a multi-disciplinary team approach is used, as it allows for data from different sectors to be analyzed against common impacts criteria within a common matrix, thus providing a rapid and clear assessment of the major impacts. The key problems that may cause significant impacts are the indirect and cumulative impacts as well as impact interactions from different sources. The outcome of RIAM process for the project showed the potential to resort in impact/effect, both negative and positive in the environment. The study shows, impact is in the form of direct, indirect, cumulative and interaction impacts (i.e. network assessment). The main outcomes of RIAM showed - the key concerns regarding the impacts from the marine construction activities were related to presence of contamination in the sediment strata, creation of sediment plume, coastal landscape shoreline change (permanent), and water quality change. Some indirect impacts (both biological and physical) could occur due to the increase in TSS. Results of the study indicated that no sensitive ecological ecosystem can be found in the nearby areas. It is evaluated during operation, minimum negative impact can be expected because of proper mitigation and control measures (as proposed);and emergency response plan. Some positive impacts are expected to increase due to developments such as recreation, sea transportation, trade and mobility. © 2010 IEEE.

Application of DFSS for ODM electronic product development - An empirical study of a wireless communication Company

Organizations that have adopted the principles of the Six Sigma methodology have become aware that once they have achieved the five sigma quality levels, the only way to progress further is to redesign their products or processes. This has led to the development of Design for Six Sigma (DFSS). Recently, DFSS has gained much popularity due to the widespread application of Six Sigma principles, particularly in new product development. This research employs the systematic view of the DFSS process and combines it with quality tools to improve the design quality of Original Design Manufacture (ODM) electronic products. A wireless communication company applying the DFSS methodology was analyzed, and an index of one-Year Return Rate (YRR) from TL 9000 Quality management System Requirements of the worldwide telecommunication industry was used to evaluate the measurable effect of product design quality. The average YRR result of an ODM product group employing the DFSS process was observed to be better than an Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) product group without the DFSS process. Furthermore, its relative value can be improved up to 25 times or 1.12 sigma. By applying the DFSS methodology, the demands of customers can be further satisfied, and the specific needs of the customer are fulfilled.

Auto landing is a very important function of control in the development of autonomous unmanned *** this paper,the stereo vision system is proposed to provide the height information on landing control instead of global positioning system(GPS).GPS provided 3-axis information,but the height error of GPS is usually in meters,which is not accurate enough for *** stereo vision system provided a more accurate height information to correct the error of *** this paper,the stereo vision system is composed of two webcams and the variable baseline method is selected to increase the measurement *** results show that variable baseline method did increase the accuracy of the stereo vision system with the webcams,and that not only provided an authentic piece of height information but also provided another option of sensor for autonomous unmanned helicopter's auto landing control.

Co-processing of grinding sludge as alternative raw material in portland cement clinker production

This research aimed to investigate the potential of partial substitution of cement raw meal with grinding sludge as an alternative raw material in Portland cement clinker production. Cement raw mixtures with up to 3% raw mix replacement were put through a burning process in a high-temperature furnace. One reference and three modified mixtures, containing 1, 2 and 3% dry weight of grinding sludge were examined. XRF analysis results showed that CaO, SiO2, A12O3 and Fe2O3 in ordinary cement raw meal were within typical concentration ranges. The grinding sludge had high concentrations of iron, cadmium, chromium and nickel and was consequently classified as a hazardous waste. High Fe2O3 made the grinding sludge a good candidate for alternative raw material. Higher replacement of grinding sludge was found to improve burnability, reduce formation of major of cement compositions (dicalcium silicate, C2S and tricalcium aluminate, C3A), lower in silica and alumina ratios, but promote the formation of tricalcium silicate (C3S) and tetracalcium aluminateferrite (C4AF). Microstructural analysis of the synthesized Portland clinker revealed that the grinding sludge promoted formation of secondary C2S as well as caused color change of C3S. Thai regulatory leaching procedure was performed on the synthesized clinker and mortar samples. The concentrations of heavy metals in the leachate were found below the limits. Moreover, the maximum substitution of grinding sludge was found to be 2% of grinding sludge. Thus, this sludge has potential applications as an alternative raw material in cement production. © 2010 Asian Network for Scientific Information.

This paper examines the structure of contemporary vehicle mitigation commitments after lead gasoline phase out in sub-Sahara Africa. First, this paper reviews some of the leading domestic trade policy proposals (emission reduction actions) with regard to their expected technology impacts. Next, it assesses the options based on establishing benchmarks for measuring policy performance in curbing vehicle emissions simultaneously with core sustainable development priorities. Assessing these options identifies the key variables in designing mitigation commitments, offers criteria for evaluating different approaches and discusses the implications of the leading alternatives. This paper argues that a more pronounced dilemma of synergies exists between vehicle emissions reduction and core development concerns as the major players target emissions too narrowly. Finally, this paper sheds more light on strategies that could be employed simultaneously at the regional and domestic levels to enhance sustainable development as trade continues to grow and evolve. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2008.

Impact of technology-Based Self-Service on Employees, Customers, and Sales in the Korean Services Market

For service providers, efficient production and delivery is becoming increasingly important. If customers can play the role of partial employees when participating in the service production and delivery, service providers can reduce the workload and achieve higher productivity. This study’s purpose is to investigate the impact of technology-based self-service (TBSS) which is designed for improvement of operational efficiency of service organizations on employees, customers, and sales, especially focused on South Korea’s service market. In-depth interviews with managers of large service providers and a questionnaire survey of employees were used as the research method. Our findings indicate that technology-based self-service positively influences employee satisfaction, but it provides disadvantages in sales, and in customer satisfaction when the services fail. Moreover, some interesting results were identified. We present the details of the statistical results and the implications found from the study.

The Industrial Engineering (IE) program at the authors' university receives continued feedback from industry, the IE program Industry Advisory Board (IAB), and student evaluations. This feedback indicated the program needed to provide the senior-level students with a more realistic industry experience. Currently, the IE internship course, IE 471, and Industrial Systems Design (IE capstone course), IE 495, are in the IE program curriculum to introduce and provide the senior engineering student an insight into the industrial world. These two courses were evaluated according to the continuous improvement plan for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and technology (ABET) and changes were recommended. The IE 471 Internship is offered to give students an occupational experience in an industrial facility. Students and faculty have experienced several disappointing obstacles in executing this IE 471 internship course, including students being unable to convince industry to hire them for an internship course. The students in the authors' IE program are generally nontraditional students. They are generally older students with family and other responsibilities in addition to their education goals. They are generally working 40 hours per week to support the family and meeting a full-time student curriculum. These students are reluctant to give up their current employment and to work for one semester as an intern. These internships are at minimum wage without benefits for the student and his/her family. The student's current job may not be available when he/she returns after the internship. The disappointments the faculty experience stem from students requesting the faculty advisor to consider using their current job responsibilities as their internship. For example, the student may be working as a sales clerk at a cell phone retail store. This position would have no engineering problems or experience.
